STRENGTH STARTS HERE: PLANET FITNESS' ANNUAL

HIGH SCHOOL SUMMER PASS™ PROGRAM RETURNS THIS JUNE

Teens can pre-register starting today and work out for free from June 1 – August 31 at 2,700+  clubs nationwide and get stronger together

Planet Fitness, one of the largest and fastest-growing franchisors and operators of fitness centers with more members than any other fitness brand, announces the return of its annual High School Summer Pass™ program. Celebrating its fifth year, the initiative invites high school teens ages 14 – 19¹ to go all in on the gym this summer to fuel their passions by working out for free at any of its 2,700+ Planet Fitness locations throughout the U.S. and Canada. Teens can visit PlanetFitness.com/SummerPass to register for the program with club access beginning Sunday, June 1 through Sunday, August 31. Find the club nearest you here

Since launching the program in 2019, Planet Fitness has invested more than $300M in waived membership dues to promote youth health and wellness, and improve the physical and mental health of millions of teens.2 Planet Fitness' High School Summer Pass program has helped millions of teens establish healthy fitness habits during the summer months, a critical time when many young people lack access to organized physical activities.

To better understand what today's teens are experiencing—and how to support them—Planet  Fitness conducted a nationwide study,3 revealing the following key insights:

  • Mental Health is a Major Concern: 66 percent of parents are concerned about their  =teen's well-being and stress levels and 72 percent of parents believe that consistent  exercise can improve their teen's mental wellness. Unfortunately, around three in five  teens report their stress and anxiety are not improving and getting worse as they get  older.

  • Working Out is a Solution: Encouragingly, 90 percent of teens say exercise helps  them feel happy, with 88 percent noting improved mood after exercise.

  • Exercise is More Than Physical Health: Teens believe physical activity helps deal with  emotional ups and downs of being a teenager, 93 percent agree that regular exercise is  beneficial when handling challenges.

  • Screen Time is Consuming: 81 percent of teens acknowledge that social media and  video games take up a significant portion of their day. In fact, nearly four in five teens  report that avoiding social media is helpful.

  • Summer Brings a Fitness Slump: 50 percent of teens report that their fitness levels  tend to decline when school is out for summer break.

"At Planet Fitness, we offer a high value experience to both our members and High School Summer Pass participants in a welcoming, Judgement Free environment where everyone can get a great workout," said Colleen Keating, Chief Executive Officer. "With free access to our clubs throughout the summer, we're providing teens with the tools they need to develop healthy fitness habits that can last a lifetime. We look forward to welcoming teens this

summer to experience the mental and physical health benefits of exercise in the Judgement Free Zone®."

To promote the 2025 High School Summer Pass program, Planet Fitness has teamed up with U.S. gymnast and 2-Time Olympic Medalist Stephen Nedoroscik who knows not only of the importance of a fitness routine, but the positive impact both physically and mentally that exercise has on overall wellness from a young age.

"Fitness and training have always been a huge part of my life - not just for competing, but for who I am as a person," said Stephen Nedoroscik, U.S. gymnast and 2-Time Olympic Medalist. "Staying at the top of my game, especially on the pommel horse, takes a ton of focus, discipline, and consistency. I've been lucky to train in places and with people that make me feel supported - and that positive environment makes all the difference. That's why I am excited to team up with Planet Fitness this summer to support their annual High School Summer Pass program. Giving teens free access to a place to move, feel confident, and chase their goals is powerful. It's a chance for young people to discover their strength, inside and out."

All High School Summer Pass participants will have access to:

  • Planet Fitness' complete range of strength equipment, including new plate-loaded  machines, best-in-class cardio equipment, stretching space and more

  • Free fitness training from certified fitness trainers4

PLANET FITNESS' HIGH SCHOOL SUMMER PASS™ RETURNS; TEENS WORK OUT FREE JUNE 1 - AUGUST 31

Planet Fitness, one of the largest and fastest-growing franchisors and operators of fitness centers with more members than any other fitness brand, announces the return of its High School Summer Pass™ program, inviting high school teens ages 14 – 191 to work out for free at any of its 2,500+ Planet Fitness locations across the U.S. and Canada this summer, between June 1 and August 31.

Planet Fitness
Planet Fitness

Starting today (5/20/24), teens can visit https://www.planetfitness.com/summerpass to register for the program before gaining club access starting Saturday, June 1. Teens under the age of 18 in the U.S. and 19 years old in Canada must register with a parent or guardian online or in-club. Since the High School Summer Pass program began, Planet Fitness has invested more than $200 million in waived membership dues to promote youth health and wellness and improve the physical and mental health of millions of teens 2.

The High School Summer Pass program kicks off during Mental Health Awareness Month (May) to help teens prioritize their physical and mental health during a critical time of year when school is out and important academic or extracurricular activities are on pause. In fact, the American Heart Association3 has found that only 25 percent of teens complete the recommended one hour of physical activity per day – and screen time is partially to blame. Research also shows that 9 out of 10 teens agree physical activity improves their overall mental health,4 and a recent Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) Pediatrics study4 determined physical fitness among children and adolescents may protect against developing depression, anxiety and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder; afflictions that have direct correlations to the impacts of the COVID pandemic.

"As the leader in fitness with locations throughout the U.S. and Canada, Planet Fitness is proud to continue to invest in today's youth by providing free access to fitness during a critical time in their lives," said Craig Benson, Interim Chief Executive Officer at Planet Fitness. "Many teens continue to be impacted by the long-term mental health impacts from the pandemic, yet studies show that exercise can have a significant, positive impact on teens' overall wellness. We look forward to welcoming High School Summer Pass participants into our clubs to support them in their health and wellness journeys."

FITNESS PROVIDES FREEDOM FROM MENTAL HEALTH OBSTACLES

To understand what is top-of-mind among teens today and better support them over the summer, Planet Fitness commissioned a national study,5 which found the following:

  • Mental Health Is a Source of Worry. 94 percent of teens face emotional and mental health struggles and about four in five (79 percent) of parents have concerns about their teen's mental health. Luckily, 63 percent of teens have found that they feel better about themselves when they exercise, with more than half (53 percent) experiencing a mood boost and feeling more accomplished.
  • Internal Struggles are Real. Three in four teens (72 percent) are self-conscious and confess they struggle with body positivity issues (43 percent), something that's been consistent in year's past.
  • The Moment is Now. 85 percent of teens feel that there's no better time than right now to concentrate on improving their health.
  • Limiting Screen Time. About seven in 10 (70 percent) teens report that staying off social media and their phones (65 percent) helps them cope with the challenges they're facing.
  • Strength Is in The Numbers. Nine in 10 (90 percent) teens feel that exercising with a friend is beneficial to their fitness journey – with others (81 percent) feeling that working out with a parent or sibling, trainer (73 percent), being part of a sports team (69 percent) and following fitness influencers (58 percent) inspires them to be more active.

All High School Summer Pass participants will have access to free fitness training from in-club certified fitness trainers6, free workouts designed specifically for high schoolers in the free Planet Fitness App as well as workout plans available at https://www.planetfitness.com/summerpass.

For more information on High School Summer Pass, including how to sign up for the free membership at any of the more than 2,500 Planet Fitness locations in the U.S. and Canada, visit PlanetFitness.com/SummerPass.

Reminder: Teens Can Work Out FOR FREE All Summer Long at Planet Fitness with High School Summer Pass

PLANET FITNESS INVITES HIGH SCHOOL TEENS TO WORK OUT FOR FREE ALL SUMMER LONG TO IMPROVE THEIR MENTAL & PHYSICAL HEALTH

'High School Summer Pass' Program Allows High Schoolers Ages 14 – 19 to Get Active at Planet Fitness' 2,200+ Locations in the U.S. and Canada From May 16-August 31

New Study Finds that While Almost Half (48 Percent) of American Teens Admit they Struggled with Mental Health for the First Time Ever During the Pandemic, Nearly All (92 percent) Agree Regular Physical Activity Helps Them Feel Much Better Mentally

Planet Fitness, one of the largest and fastest-growing franchisors and operators of fitness centers with more members than any other fitness brand, is inviting high schoolers ages 14 – 19* to work out for free at any of its more than 2,200 Planet Fitness locations throughout the United States and Canada from May 16 through August 31 as part of the High School Summer Pass initiative.

High School Summer Pass was formally known as Teen Summer Challenge, which was the first program of its kind launched in 2019 and saw more than 900,000 teens sign-up and complete more than 5.5 million workouts over a three-and-a-half-month period. Starting today, high schoolers can visit PlanetFitness.com/SummerPass to pre-register, and get a reminder to formally sign up when the program officially kicks off on Monday, May 16. Teens under 18 must register with a parent or guardian online or in-club.

PLANET FITNESS EMPOWERS TEENS TO STAY ACTIVE

According to the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) Network Open, less than 15 percent of teens met the 60-minute daily physical activity recommendation during the pandemic.** And a national study*** commissioned by Planet Fitness found that 93 percent of American teens want to stay healthy and active over the summer months, but many lack motivation or access to do so. High School Summer Pass offers a solution for teenagers eager to stay active when school sports programs, gym classes and after school activities wind down.

Planet Fitness To Open Its Doors to Teens FOR FREE All Summer Long

FOR FREE All Summer Long

"As the leader in fitness, we believe we have a responsibility to provide a welcoming, safe, and Judgement Free environment for high school students to improve their physical and mental wellness, particularly given the challenges they have and continue to face in the wake of the pandemic," said Chris Rondeau, Chief Executive Officer at Planet Fitness. "Our study found that nearly all (92 percent) high school students agreed that when they are regularly physically active, they feel much better mentally. Fitness is about feeling good, too, and our hope is that High School Summer Pass empowers teens to create life-long workout habits to help them succeed in every aspect of their lives."

To further motivate high schoolers to make fitness a priority, all participants who sign up starting May 16 are automatically entered into The Planet Fitness High School Summer Pass Sweepstakes. Planet Fitness will award one $500 scholarship in each state (and the District of Columbia), and one grand prize $5,000 scholarship at the end of the summer****. These scholarships can be used for academic or athletic activities or programs.

INSIGHT INTO TEEN HEALTH & FITNESS

To uncover how high schoolers view health and fitness today, Planet Fitness commissioned a national study in partnership with Material to shed light on mental and physical health from both teens' and parents' perspectives.  Although negatively impacted by the pandemic, teens are ready to make a commitment to getting healthy, both physically and mentally.

Key findings include:

  • Physical Fitness for the Win. Despite three in five teens (60 percent) reporting their usual health and fitness routines were severely disrupted over the last two years, nearly all (89 percent) of their parents credit regular exercise and physical activity as helping their teens cope with the challenges of the pandemic. And nearly all (92 percent) teens agree that when they are regularly physically active, they feel much better mentally.
    • Although many teens make exercise and fitness a priority in their life (65 percent), there are significant barriers to doing so. In fact, 78 percent of teens note that just having access to a place to work out and being able to do so with friends (72 percent) would benefit their health and fitness journeys.
    • A majority of teens who exercise also agree that physical fitness makes them feel healthier (61 percent), stronger (57 percent) and happier (50 percent). It also provides the meaningful health benefits of more energy (69 percent), increased strength (64 percent) and stress relief (61 percent).
    • And 84 percent of teens agree that there has never been a better time than now to focus on their health.
  • Mental Health Takes Center Stage. Almost half (48 percent) of teens admit that they struggled with mental health for the first time during the pandemic. And more than half (51 percent) explain they currently struggle with anxiety.
    • Parents are overwhelmingly concerned about how the past two years have impacted their teens' mental health (71 percent), overall health (66 percent) and physical fitness (60 percent). And 71 percent are equally concerned for their high schooler's academic progress and preparedness for college.
    • That said, more than four in five teens report they are feeling hopeful about what's to come in the future (85 percent) and that the pandemic showed them how strong they really are (82 percent).
  • Let's Get Talking. Parents have overwhelmingly spoken more regularly to their teens over the past two years about topics like self-esteem and confidence (92 percent), exercise and working out (88 percent) and mental health (82 percent). The majority of teens today also say they are now more open and communicative about their feelings (79 percent).
  • Screen Time, More Time. A majority of parents (55 percent) also report the time their teens spends on social media has increased since the start of the pandemic. In fact, many parents feel their teens are spending more time being sedentary than active – 54 percent noted their teens text more today, 52 percent saw an uptick in playing video games and 50 percent of parents say their teen is spending more time watching TV.
    • And more teens agree they spend too much time in front of screens than they did right before the pandemic (61 percent in 2022 versus 52 percent in 2020).

A SAFE, CLEAN AND WELCOMING ENVIRONMENT TO GET MOVING

In addition to free in-club fitness training that all High School Summer Pass participants will have access to, the certified trainers at Planet Fitness have also designed 15 trainer-led workout videos and 10 downloadable workouts – encompassing cardio, strength, toning and sports circuits – just for high schoolers (across all fitness levels). This content will be available on the Planet Fitness App and at PlanetFitness.com/SummerPass starting May 16.

This summer and all year-round, Planet Fitness' top priority continues to be keeping its members and employees safe and is the first fitness brand to receive the WELL Health-Safety Rating for Facility Operations and Management by the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI). The rating recognizes Planet Fitness' leadership in adopting the leading framework to ensure a safer and healthier environment for its employees and members across all of its more than 2,200 facilities.

Enhanced COVID-19 safety and sanitization protocols at its well-ventilated and spacious clubs include:

  • Touchless check-in via the free Planet Fitness App – available to all High School Summer Pass participants
  • A Crowd Meter on the Planet Fitness App that allows members to check club capacity in real-time before even leaving the house
  • Increased sanitization to continually clean and sanitize high-touch areas, with cleaning stations available for member use
  • Mask policies in accordance with local guidelines

Planet Fitness is committed to supporting its local communities and first responders. In 2022, 100% of equipment from Planet Fitness' corporate clubs was either donated or resold.

Local franchise group CDM Fitness Holdings, whose first location was Franklin, Mass., Planet Fitness, recently donated three treadmills, one stair-climber, and one stationary bike to the Franklin Fire Department.

Exercise and physical fitness are important for first responders’ mental health as they experience prolonged levels of high-stress, work long shifts and may not have access to workout equipment at work or at home. This Mental Health Awareness month, we’re thrilled to be giving back to local first responders. Exercise not only promotes physical and mental wellness, but it can also help ease stress.
