Franklin Art Association October 5 meeting features Kendra Bidwell Ferreira

The Franklin Art Association monthly meeting will take place on Wednesday, October 5th at 6:30 pm at the Franklin Senior Center. The program will feature a discussion and demonstration of methods and techniques by Kendra Bidwell Ferreira. Kendra’s work is mainly contemporary colored pencil using ordinary subjects and compositions to portray them in an extraordinary way. Colored pencils allow her to combine the expressiveness of painting with the control of drawing. A recording of her demo will later be posted to the Franklin Art Association's YouTube channel and at www.franklinart.org.

Kendra received a good foundation in drawing in high school, then went on to earn her BFA from Massachusetts College of Art with a concentration in printmaking. She is a signature member of the Colored Pencil Society of America and holds a second signature status (CPX) in exploratory mediums with colored pencil. Kendra is also a Fellow Member of the American Artists’ Professional League, and an artist member of Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club and Providence Art Club. Kendra’s work has been included in many national and international art exhibitions and she has received numerous awards for her work.

All meetings are free and open to the public. The Art Association is supported in part by grants from the Massachusetts Cultural Council, the Franklin Cultural Council and the Franklin Cultural District.

More Public Art Coming to Franklin's Flower Alley!

Bubbles Make Smiles
Bubbles Make Smiles
Franklin Art Association members Amy Adams and Peg Munson have painted murals that will be installed soon on a building between 15 and 17 East Central Street, facing the former Cake Bar.

This project has been organized by the Franklin Downtown Partnership, and sponsored by the Ferrara family who own the building. The other side of the building is the Flower Alley mural installation.

These murals are designed to be interactive for taking selfie’s, and we hope that they  will encourage people to visit the Franklin Cultural District. They will be installed in mid December and will be featured as part of the Ladybug Trail in early 2022.

Flight

Peg’s mural “Bubbles Make Smiles”, features a giant bubble wand and bubbles floating up over a background of a sunset over water.  Amy's mural is entitled “Flight.” She says it is "an interactive artwork featuring over 160 unique and individual butterflies, and is meant to be an inspiring and uplifting reflection of our diverse community."

Franklin Art Association: Dianne Panarelli Miller to present at meeting Nov 3

The Franklin Art Association will hold its third in-person meeting of the fall season at 6:30 pm on Wednesday, November 3.  Our special guest demonstrator will be Dianne Panarelli Miller, a world renowned artist painting in Canada, Bermuda, and Europe. She is an award winning Boston-based "Plein Air Painter" of color and light and is a signature member of the New England Plein Air Painters, as well as a "Copley Master,” a honor conferred by the Copley Society, America’s oldest nonprofit art association, on artists who have achieved distinction for the outstanding quality of their work.

Panarelli’s approach combines the classic atelier training of the "Boston School" with a mastery of technique of her own personal style expressed through the harmony of color and design.  Her work encompasses landscapes, cityscapes, portraits and still lifes.

Miller has been painting, full-time, year-round, for 40 years, is represented by several galleries throughout New England, and is passing on her tutelage to others with a robust teaching schedule that spans from the Cape to the South Shore. She also organizes art trips to Europe and in 2018 traveled on her own to a starkly different landscape: Wyoming. “That was one of the best things I have ever done in my life. I drove cross-country and spent a month out there painting; I did 54 paintings in a month,” she recalls. “It was a true adventure.”

Franklin Art Association meetings are held at the Franklin Senior Center (10 Daniel McCahill Street, Franklin), and are free and open to the public.

In accordance with public health guidelines attendees will be expected to wear facemasks.  Meetings are also live-streamed via Zoom for those unable to join us in person.
