Hosts Kim Simone and Mark Lenzi explore all things wine with you!

From Packie to Sonoma: The Peter Merriam Story

The Peter Merriam Story
The Peter Merriam Story
This week on The Wonderful World of Wine, hosts Kim and Mark uncork a fascinating conversation with Peter Merriam of Merriam Vineyards. A true Massachusetts native, Peter shares his incredible journey from owning a local "packie" (package store) to establishing a renowned winery in the heart of Sonoma.

Join us as Peter delves into the world of sustainable and organic winemaking, offering insights into what makes these practices so vital. We'll also explore the intriguing differences in wine trends between California and Massachusetts, and Peter clarifies the distinction between "family-made" and "Mass-produced" wines.

Curious where to find Merriam Vineyards wines? Peter reveals where his exquisite selections are available in Massachusetts, including at the esteemed Davio's restaurants. Plus, he provides a detailed look at his winery, vineyards, and tasting room, giving listeners a virtual tour of his Sonoma operation.

Of course, no WWW episode is complete without a tasting! Kim and Mark, along with Peter, sample two of Merriam Vineyards' standout creations: the crisp and elegant 2023 Russian River Chardonnay and the rich and velvety 2023 Russian River Merlot.

Franklin Liquor: Wine Tasting Event - June 19 at 7 PM

Exploring Merriam Vineyards
Franklin Wine Club Event
June 19 - 7PM
Host: Peter Merriam

This sit down wine tasting/education event will have Merriam owner Peter Merriam tasting with you.

These wines are produced from grapes grown on the estate vineyards at Merriam Estate and Windacre Vineyard in the Russian River Valley. From the beginning, they have been committed to sustainable farming practices and environmental stewardship. In the vineyard, they allow the vines to thrive by keeping intervention to a minimum so as not to interfere in the natural growing process. The 21-acre estate is certified organic by the California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF).
Exploring Merriam Vineyards

About Peter:

Peter and Diana Merriam fell in love with Sonoma County when they first visited in 2000. They soon had the good fortune of purchasing the estate which at the time needed extra care in converting it into a sustainable farm. They immediately began the process of farming grapes with organic and sustainable practices in mind.

With a home in Maine and an office in Boston, the family enjoy a bi-coastal lifestyle, spending time in both New England and California. Peter and Diana have three sons and one daughter; Stefan, Nicolas, Evan and Danielle. Evan is involved in the day to day running of the estate.

The Merriams remain grounded in their vision of exceptional hospitality, sustainable farming, and producing wines inspired by French styles of winemaking.   http://www.merriamvineyards.com/
