In the News: Pleasant/Chestnut St sidewalks paid for not financed

From the Milford Daily News, articles of interest for Franklin:

"A project to put sidewalks along Pleasant and Chestnut streets will continue as long as weather permits, officials said.
Deputy Town Administrator Jamie Hellen said work on the $1.8 million project - which looks to install new sidewalks and repair existing ones - is going very well.
"We're on schedule," he said. "We're hoping to get as much of the work done before the snow as possible."
When the project was first approved in April, town officials said they hoped to get the bulk of the work done this year and wrap up during next year's construction season."

FHS field hockey wins 1-0 to advance in playoffs

From Hockomock Sports we share the FHS fall sports results from Friday, Nov 4

*** Playoffs = Field Hockey = D1 South

#10 Franklin, 1 @ #7 Bridgewater-Raynham, 0 – Final
– Alex Sullivan scored in the third minute for the Panthers. Franklin advances to the D1 South quarterfinal to face Walpole at 2:00 on Sunday.

Joe Clark, HockomockSports.com Student Reporter provides the detailed write up for this game:

"The old adage “practice makes perfect” is one that certainly held true for the Franklin girl’s field hockey team on Friday. The Panthers scored early and never looked back on their way to a 1-0 win over Bridgewater-Raynham in First Round of the MIAA D1 South tournament
Franklin, who haven’t played a lot on grass fields this season, spent this week practicing on the surface to prepare for the game, and it showed. Just three minutes into the game, senior midfielder Alex Sullivan got the rebound following a save from B-R goalie Hailey Colon and put the ball in the back of the net to put Franklin up 1-0.
“We practiced on grass all week and we practiced going hard to the ball and beating them to the ball and that’s what we did, got the jump on them and popped one in early, so it felt good to have that lead,” said Franklin head coach Lisa Cropper on the quick start."

In the News: Franklin TV expands to radio; "tentative" yes to Medway power plant

From the Milford Daily News, articles of interest for Franklin:

"If all goes well, the local public access cable station will be looking to venture into a new medium - radio - early next year.
Franklin TV is hoping to begin broadcasts on 102.9 FM - with call sign WFPR, or Franklin Public Radio - in the first months of 2017, said station Executive Director Peter Fasciano.
"Our target date for a broadcast test - or program test - is sometime between the first of the year and Feb. 12," he said.
Once operations begin, Fasciano said, the station would look to broadcast local meetings, community events, sports, a lecture series and Franklin TV shows that would translate to the radio format."

"In a tentative decision published Friday evening, the Massachusetts Energy Facilities Siting Board (EFSB) said it approved Exelon’s petition to expand the company’s Summer Street power plant.
The nine-member state board is the determining authority as to whether the project can proceed.
In an email Friday afternoon, Peter Lorenz, communications director for the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs, said the tentative decision is “a recommended decision” prepared by the siting board staff for the board's consideration and is not the board’s final decision.
“The issuance of the tentative decision follows months of public hearings, review of over one hundred comment letters and briefs submitted and evidentiary hearings,” he said.
