MBTA: Starting November 20: Commuter Rail schedule changes (not for Franklin Line)

Fall/Winter Commuter Rail schedules go into effect on Monday, November 20th. Schedules are now available on mbta.com. 

Please note that Haverhill, Lowell, Framingham/Worcester, and Providence/Stoughton are the only lines with changes made to train times. 

Additionally, all lines have been updated to incorporate severe weather service information and can be viewed on mbta.com on each line's schedule page.
Paper copies of the schedules will be available in the Boston-based stations (North Station, South Station, and Back Bay) on Monday, November 13th. 

For those who utilize the MBTA Commuter Rail application, please make sure to update the schedule in your application prior to travel on November 20th. When opening the application, a prompt will appear stating that a new Commuter Rail schedule is available. Please check the update button to ensure that the new schedules have been updated in your application.

"The street sign for Hennessey Drive was stolen for the fourth time on Monday night. A resident reported to police that the sign was missing from its post on Tuesday morning. 

The reason the sign has been stolen so many times, according to DPW director of operations Deacon Perrotta, is easy to speculate. 

“Someone wants to put it behind their bar or something,” he said. “Hennessey seems to be a very popular sign to steal.” 

Though the signs are not too expensive for the town to replace, it is time consuming for the DPW, and could potentially pose a safety threat for residents that live there."

"Voters elected three new faces - Melanie Hamblin, Eamon McCarthy Earls and Patrick Casey - to the Town Council in Tuesday’s election. 

A total of 3,913 residents took part in the town’s biennial election, in which the entirety of Franklin’s Town Council and School Committee were elected. 

Casey, with 2,463 votes, garnered the highest vote tally of the 12 candidates seeking seats on the nine-member council. Fellow newcomers Hamblin and Earls received 2,127 and 2,316 votes, respectively."

FHS volleyball playoff run ends in Hopkinton

From Hockomock Sports we share the results of the Franklin High School fall sports results on Tuesday, Nov 7.


Volleyball = D1 Central West = #6 Franklin, 0 @ #3 Hopkinton, 3 – Final 
– Franklin went on the road and gave the third-seeded Hillers a big test, especially in the second half, but came up short (13-25, 24-26, 18-25). Hailey Sanders had seven kills and a block while Meaghan Maguire added four kills and four blocks to pace the offense. Lauren McGrath finished with 24 assists, eight digs and three aces while Riley Marino had 16 digs for the Panthers.

Franklin Turkey Trot Helps Feed Local Families in Need - Nov 23

For the hundreds who will come out on Thanksgiving morning for the Franklin Turkey Trot 5K Family Fun Run, the motto is “Run now, gobble later!” When families gather together for their traditional feast after the event, there will be many more grateful for the bounty that results from the race. The registration fee of $20, or 20 nonperishable goods, goes directly to the Franklin Food Pantry, keeping donations local to help feed those in need.

The event begins and ends at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS Church) at 91 Jordan Road in Franklin. The race, open to runners and walkers of all ages, attracts experienced runners as well as families who want to get out and exercise together before their traditional holiday get-together. A professional race organizer officially records timing, pace and rankings for each runner.

“Thanksgiving is truly a time to be grateful for the many blessings we have,” said Erin Lynch, executive director for the Franklin Food Pantry. “But it is also an occasion to think of others who are struggling to put food on their tables. The Franklin Turkey Trot rallies our community to give back and help protect others from the threat of hunger. The more than 1,000 individuals we serve are grateful to our community for coming out to support us.”

The November 23 race will begin at 8 a.m. Registration can be done online at franklinturkeytrot.org; at the LDS Church from 7 – 9 p.m. the Wednesday before the race; or the morning of the race from 6:30 – 7:30 a.m. Official race t-shirts can be purchased online for $10 for those who register by November 2.

The registration fee of $20 is preferred as it allows the Pantry to “stretch our budget for leaner times,” said Lynch. “Our capacity to store the donated goods is extremely limited this time of year.” If participants prefer to donate goods, Lynch said the Pantry is in need of tea, coffee, hot cocoa and canned fruit. They can also go to the Pantry’s website at franklinfoodpantry.org for a longer list of current needs.

Lynch credits much of the event’s success to Race Director Krystal Whitmore. “We are fortunate to have an incredibly hard-working group of volunteers, led by Krystal, who make this event possible,” said Lynch. “Krystal organizes church members, high school students, and her own family members to volunteer. The amount of work involved is amazing. We could not do this without them.”

Only 3916 of the 22,701 registered voters turned out to make changes to the Town Council, Board of Health, and School Committee. 17.2%
