Escape into Fiction update on reopening status

"Just want to post here that we have delayed the opening of Escape Into Fiction a few days. Now scheduled for 2/5 Saturday at 10 AM. This will be a soft opening (waiting for Grand Opening until 3/5/2022.).
Sorry for the delay!! We had a lot of painting and counter work to do.
We WILL have drip coffee from Doglio Coffee but likely not on opening day. We will also have pop-up space for local venders to come in and have a market day, but not in the first few weeks.
We can’t wait to see everyone again!!"

Franklin Residents: Curbside Trash and Recycling Delayed One Day This Week

Good evening, this is the Franklin Department of Public Works calling with important information regarding our Solid Waste and Recycling program.  My name is Pavo, the electronic voice of the Franklin Public Works.
Unfortunately, we were informed by Waste Management that trash and recycling will be delayed by one day.  This is a regional, area-wide decision because of the recent blizzard.  Franklin was ready for a regular trash and recycling pickup, but I guess some surrounding communities were not.

Your DPW Director, Brutus, wants me to let you know that if your normal trash day is Monday, it will now be on Tuesday, Tuesday pick up will be on Wednesday, Wednesday trash and recycling will be picked up Thursday, Thursday trash and recycling will be picked up on Friday, and Friday's trash and recycling will be picked up on Saturday.

Thank you all for your support during this weekend's storm and have a great DPW day!

You received this message because you are subscribed to the [Town of Franklin-Residents] group.

One Book, One Community Winter 2022

The Franklin Public Library is having a Winter 2022 One Book, One Community program as a way to have the community come together through the reading and discussion of a common book. We'll be reading The 71/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton.  Turton's book is a mixture of "Locked room mystery" (a la Agatha Christie), psychological thriller, romance, and...maybe...time travel? That's for you to find out!

Print copies of the book are available at the library, and it is also available through interlibrary loan.  If you'd prefer a digital copy, it's available as both and ebook and audiobook through the Hoopla and Libby apps. Please visit our One Book, One Community webpage to learn more about author Stuart Turton, read the book discussion questions, and experience the online escape room challenge! The library will be hosting a discussion of the book on Tuesday, March 22nd at 7:00 p.m.

Local historian Alan Earls, will deliver a slide presentation covering Brooke's fascinating life and, in particular, his role in Massachusetts and his visit to Franklin!

Franklin Public Library Book Club, Tuesday, February 22, 7:00 p.m.

The book for discussion is The Vanishing Half, by Brit Bennett.

The Vignes twin sisters will always be identical. But after growing up together in a small, southern black community and running away at age sixteen, it's not just the shape of their daily lives that is different as adults, it's everything: their families, their communities, their racial identities. Ten years later, one sister lives with her black daughter in the same southern town she once tried to escape. The other secretly passes for white, and her white husband knows nothing of her past. Still, even separated by so many miles and just as many lies, the fates of the twins remain intertwined. What will happen to the next generation, when their own daughters' storylines intersect? Weaving together multiple strands and generations of this family, from the Deep South to California, from the 1950s to the 1990s, Brit Bennett produces a story that is at once a riveting, emotional family story and a brilliant exploration of the American history of passing.--Provided by publisher.

Franklin TV: What Vaccination Does

by Pete Fasciano, Executive Director  01/30/2022

When and how did ‘vaxx’ become a four-letter word for some folks? The vaccine has been fully approved for regular use for some time now. The stats bear out it’s effectiveness.  Easy-Peasy. What’s not to like?  Sign me up.  This graphic tells the tale of what vaccination does. It’s dramatic. (I’m vaxxed/boosted – and masked.)

Franklin TV: What Vaccination Does

There is no logic that justifies avoiding the vaccine. Unfortunately, we are now seeing how anti-vaxx disinformation and vitriol spreads beyond COVID to affect the uptake of other vaccines; notably the flu vaccine as well as the decades-long, customarily mandated shots for preschoolers. Anti-vaxxers argue that it’s about their personal freedoms. To that point – I ask a simple question. Who is truly more free: free of risk and worry?

Via Tracy Novick, we get an statewide overview of the Governor's budget with a focus on education funding (Chap 70).

"Governor Charlie Baker released his recommended House 2 FY23 budget on Wednesday. The full budget totals $48.5 billion.
Remember, it's House 2, because it is filed as a bill with the House; it is (bill #)2 because it is the second year of the Legislative session. Last year was House 1.
I tweeted out an account by account look on Thursday and Friday. I have also put all the education accounts into this spreadsheet, which I will update over the course of the state budget process. I won't go through all of the accounts here, but I'll hit some highlights."
