Baseball = Division 1 = #15 Franklin, 4 @ #2 St. John’s Shrewsbury, 5 – Final (8 inn.)
– Down to its last out in the top of the seventh, Franklin rallied for a pair of runs to keep the game going but St. John’s came through with the winning run in the bottom of the eighth. A two-out, two-run double from senior Ben Yuknis plated a pair in the top of the third to give the Panthers an early lead. The Pioneers cut that lead in half with a run in the fourth and scored a trio of runs in the bottom of the sixth to seize their first lead of the game, 4-2. In the top of the seventh, sophomore Sean Kryzak led off with a walk, senior Henry Digiorgio singled, and Yuknis was intentionally walked to load the bases with two outs. Senior Jake Shaughnessy came through with a single to left to bring in two runs and tie the game. Franklin had a chance to regain the lead in the top of the eighth when Kryzak singled and Dom Caccavelli walked, both with two outs, but the Pioneers got a big strikeout. St. John’s pushed across the winning run after a two-out single from Jamie Herlihy, who then stole second, and scored on a single from Brayden Mercier. Shaughnessy allowed one run on five hits and one walk, striking out seven in five innings.
