"Hi everyone! It is with sadness we inform you that The Cake Bar is closing its doors. We want to thank the town of Franklin, surrounding towns, and all our customers for your loyalty and friendship throughout the years. Our last day will be Saturday, August 14th, so come in to get your treats and smoothie bowls while they last.

We know you need your smoothie fix, so look for upcoming news about Sippin’ Smoothies and bowls on Facebook or Instagram! @sippinsmoothies

The Cake Bar's Alec Callahan

"Today we’d like to introduce you to Alec Callahan.
Alec, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Growing up I had many interests such as sports, I loved playing baseball, reading comic books and super heroes which is an obsession still to this day. I would say one of the main reasons I ended up going toward the culinary field was coming from such a large family that was cooking all the time. No matter what time of day it was it felt like my mom and aunts were in the kitchen cooking. Sometimes I would offer to help but the majority of the time I would just complain and ask if it was ready yet. I grew up with my older brother and 2 cousins who are basically my sisters. The 4 of us were always together and did anything and everything together including going out to eat to the point of being a well-known foursome in many of the town’s local restaurants. Our tastes have changed but not our love of food."

In the News: recount adds one to Burr, roadwork wrapping up, cupcake decorating class, PARCC results for Charter School

From the Milford Daily News, articles of interest for Franklin

"After a four-hour recount session, Teresa Burr was affirmed as the winner of the town clerk election.
Burr, who led the election-night tally, widened her margin of victory over second-place finisher Diane Padula-O'Neill by one vote, taking the race 1,114 to 1,081.
The recount, which took place in the council chambers at the Franklin Municipal Building, had election workers hand-counting the cast ballots. They were overseen by observers from both campaigns."

"Roadwork in town is wrapping up as the winter months near, according to town officials.
Town Administrator Jeffrey Nutting told the Town Council at its Wednesday night meeting that projects in town were drawing to a close.
"We're hoping the weather holds while we finish up Oak Street," he said, noting that the road there needs paving.
Nutting spoke about the downtown improvement project, which will be ending for the season, but will resume next year."

Livy's Hope - The Cake Bar

While I was on my errands Saturday afternoon, Tracie Turinese sent me an email about a fund raiser at her place, The Cake Bar. Hmm, I was going to drive right by on my way home, might as well stop in and see what's up.

The Cake Bar was busy. As I was in line, watching for an opportunity to take a picture of the luscious cupcakes in the display case, the tray marked "Livy's Hope" was pulled out. The last of that batch had just been sold. Any cupcake purchase qualifies for a contribution to this cause so I did make a choice. There are so many decadent ones to choose from!

Here is the flyer with the full story on the fund raising effort for Livy

Here is a view of the special Livy cupcakes. Yes, more are being made. You might be able to get one or more when you go there this weekend.
