Franklin Library: Magician Bryson Lang - Dec 29

"At Bryson’s show you’ll see an entertaining mix of comedy and juggling! You won’t forget a guy who spins balls on a set of antlers on his head, juggles huge beach balls above your head, keeps five mini basketballs in the air, or manipulates a ball on a mouth-stick while juggling sharp sickles and standing on a shaky balance board! This program is free and open to the public."

In the News: Narcan in the schools, magician at Cole's

From the Milford Daily News, articles of interest for Franklin
"The opiate crisis pervading the state has resulted in an unprecedented and skyrocketing overdose death count. Area police and fire departments have responded in kind. Officers and other first responders regularly carry with them the overdose reversing drug Narcan. Another institution is starting to follow suit: the schools.
This year, many area public school districts have stocked Narcan and trained their nurses on how to use it. Others are on their way, pushing school committees to issue a Narcan policy that, in equal parts, allows nurses to use the drug and acknowledges the state and nationwide crisis extends into their school districts."

Friday the 13th turned lucky for spectators who gathered in Cole’s Tavern for an evening performance of the mind-boggling magic of local magician “Michael John.”
Michael John, known by friends and family as Michael Sannicandro, an Upton resident, has been performing magic since he was 7 years old. He appeared on the most recent season, season 10, of the TV show "America’s Got Talent," where he amazed millions of viewers until he was eventually eliminated.
Since then, he has been travelling the country performing his magic for private events, corporate events and on college campuses. Recently back in his hometown, Sannicandro decided to perform a show at Cole’s Tavern in Franklin.

Franklin Library: "Reading is Magic"

Ed the Wizard will bring his "Reading is Magic" performance to the Franklin Library on Tuesday at 3:00 PM
"Reading is Magic" is a 45 minute interactive magic performance using many volunteers
with reading as the emphasis behind the program. Suitable for all grades, PreK-12, as the message, routines, and understanding levels increase with each grade level. What are the goals of Reading is Magic? The message of each performance is to emphasize upon your students the importance and power of reading; how reading and comprehension are tools that they will use everyday, how I taught myself the art of prestidigitation, how each and every student can use their reading skills to learn anything that they choose to learn, and how reading encourages independent thought.

Magic books from your library's collection will be put on display as I briefly discuss some of them and perform a routine from one. I also highlight the new book that I donate to your collection and perform a routine from that book. Now your students have seen the magic and have been pointed to the resources; the rest is up to them! And of course how I mention the fact that I was inspired by Albus Dumbledore from "Harry Potter" into becoming a fully fledged wizard!
