Interfaith Thanksgiving Service - Nov 20

The Franklin Interfaith Council will hold its annual Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, November 20, at 7 p.m. at the First Universalist Society in Franklin, 262 Chestnut Street. This year Temple Etz Chaim is hosting the Service. Everyone is welcome, and all are invited to attend.

According to one Council member, "The Thanksgiving Service is one of the loveliest community events of the year." We gather together as people of many faiths to celebrate and give thanks for the countless blessings in our lives through readings, reflection, and special musical presentations.

One very special part of the Service is the opportunity to make a free-will offering to the Franklin Fuel Assistance Fund, which provides relief with winter heating costs to local families in need.

The Thanksgiving Service is meaningful to so many, and is a wonderful way to begin to the Holiday Season. The church, which is handicap accessible, has ample parking. Please join us.

FHS volleyball wins 3-1 to advance in playoffs

Hockomock Sports Managing Editor Josh Perry provides the recap of the FHS volleyball team win vs Shepherd Hill on Thursday. The team advances in the payoffs to play the #3 seed Lincoln-Sudbury on Monday

"When the season began for Franklin, expectations were limited for a young roster that was hoping to earn enough wins just to get into the postseason. The younger players developed quicker than even Franklin coach Kate Horsmann could have hoped and not only did the Panthers reach the tournament but on Thursday night hosted Shepherd Hill in the Div. 1 Central/West first round. 

Franklin continued its strong season with a 3-1 (25-22, 20-25, 25-16, 25-17) victory over the Rams and advanced to the sectional quarterfinal for a trip to third-seed Lincoln-Sudbury. 

“At the beginning of the year, we had some potential,” Horsmann explained, “but I really thought okay we’ll be lucky if we make the tournament and…we got a home match. They’re a great group of kids and it’s exciting and now we get to go to Lincoln-Sudbury, which is always tough for us.”

"The Franklin Downtown Partnership will soon be decorating the downtown area for the holiday season - the first time it has done so since the completion of the area's streetscape project. 

Partnership members at the group's Thursday morning meeting said volunteers would be placing the decorations on the morning of Sunday, Nov. 20. 

"Hillside Nurseries will be providing the greens, bows and other decorations," said Eileen Mason, who is heading the effort. "We'll be sorting the greens on the Saturday before (the event)."

Franklin Newcomers and Friends Club 43rd Annual Craft Fair - Nov 5

The Franklin Newcomers and Friends Club 43rd Annual Craft Fair is THIS SATURDAY! 9:00 am until 3:00 pm, at the Tri-County Regional Vocational High School in Franklin.

Our craft fair is a tradition for the Town of Franklin and several local charities benefit from the funds raised by this annual event. Admission is $3, children 12 and under are free, with a maximum charge of $10 per family. 

Start your holiday shopping and pick up some unique handmade gifts! We have over 70 artisan crafters making a variety of products - holiday items, clothing and accessories, home decor, jewelry, art, candles, specialty food, handbags, stained and painted glass, ceramics, soaps, and more. Many are from Franklin and surrounding towns, so this is a perfect "shop local" event!

We are also accepting donations of non-perishable items for the Franklin Food Pantry. Donations may be dropped off at the entrance. In addition to food, items especially needed are shampoo, toothpaste, deodorant and hand soap. Please be sure to check expiration dates as the Food Pantry can not accept expired items.
