a. Update on West Street Parking

reporting on parking by 3rd shift Police
declined 35 to 26 over night

vehicle with 6 unpaid parking citations was towed and hopefully has helped, things declined further
parking control officer returned Oct 12

Joann Rosetti

resident - complaining about dispatcher that said the police were too busy to ticket

John Doherty, 67 West St
why only a part time meter maid?
cars at night are parking where they are not supposed to be

lines in the street why were they put there? for Dean not to park there, parking for anyone?
problem on Nason and Church as well

long before I became Chief, that move was made
we ask for it, we do the best we can
we should be at 57 police and four civilians

students are parking at night and know they won't be tagged until 7

parking at the corner is an accident waiting to happen

John Davidson, 25 Church Ave
cars parking less, parking lot for Dean is also less
still something, we are not clicking yet

Pam Young, 59 West St
marijuana can't be smoked in a public place
and they are either in or outside their cars and smoking

Anita MiIller, 25 Church Ave

James McGloughlin, 27 Church Ave
"party corner"
can't get someone down on the weekends to do work with the parking
a third rate citizen in your own neighborhood
not the way the neighborhood should be
in the summer time it is beautiful

Andy Morriotti, 32 West St
consider expanding the hours
parking in the Dean Lot costs, they are parking on the street for free
need to get Dean involved

Dellorco, Dean hasn't done anything for us
if not, we need to do something

Jones, steps to approach to fixing the problem
like the idea of extending the hours
if Dean is charging $500, it is worth a discussion

Trash and parking conflict can be addressed

Padula - thanks for the response from the Town
pleased with positive results, should the hours be tweaked, those are fair questions

Kelly - someone will answer the emergency over Dean kids parking
we could extend the hours, but that won't solve the issue
if we go to residents parking only, how about a family member to visit over night?
we do need to talk to Dean
I don't want to sugar coat it that changing the hours is going to fix the issue
I am willing to work with you on this but I want a solution that works

Pellegri - don't agree with being too bust to do something for you
I think the resident stickers could work, have extras for the visitors

Broadway Series: Sara Jean Ford - Friday, Nov 16

THE BLACK BOX is proud to present the next concert in its Broadway Series: Sara Jean Ford on Friday, November 16 at 8 PM. In her solo concert, “Generations,” Sara Jean Ford explores all the many generations of music introduced to her over the years and how that music has come to shape and heal her as she made her way to the Broadway stage and beyond.

Whether it was through her Grandmother’s love of cheesy soprano ballads, Her Mother’s love for Joni Mitchel and all things Beatles, or her Daughter’s love of Disney music and... Barbie, Sara weaves together a story of passion, perseverance, and positivity through a love of music, and the many generations that introduced it all to her.

“It was like a Franklin community homecoming, a class reunion of sorts”

From the Milford Daily News, articles of interest for Franklin:

"The change of seasons brings about reflection, introspection and new vision and this was especially felt this fall by the multitude of volunteers who had brought the Feast of St. Rocco to life every August for the past 40 years.
This past Aug. 12 marked the last day of the final Festival of Food so lovingly run by members of St. Mary Parish. To honor the hundreds of volunteers who made the feast a part of their summer, a Mass of thanksgiving and reception of gratitude was held recently to begin the transition from one tradition to the next.
The Mass and reception brought 40 years of faith, family, community and tradition full circle. Fr. Michael Guarino, the brainchild of the event in 1979, was the principal celebrant of the Mass.
His homily was built on the theme of the number 40 in the Bible. He pointed out that the Israelites wandered the desert for 40 years; Moses, Elijah and Jesus fasted in the desert for 40 days; and the great flood lasted 40 days."

FHS volleyball team ends playoff run against Barnstable

Ryan Lanigan, founder and Editor-in-Chief of HockomockSports.com, provides the game recap for the volleyball semi-final played at Franklin High School on Tuesday.

"In a battle of two of the top teams in the state of Massachusetts, the Franklin volleyball team gave everything the Barnstable Raiders could handle.
The Panthers, who secured the Central-West sectional title in a dramatic five-set win, push the Raiders, champions of the South sectional, to the limit. But ultimately, Barnstable made one final run to come away with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-23) win and a return trip to the D1 State Final.
“I couldn’t really ask for more,” said first-year Franklin head coach Kelsey Weymouth. “They knew they’d have to be matched up with [Barnstable] eventually so why not the state semifinals? We prepared them the best we could for them, and for [Barnstable outside hitter] Riley James. We knew blocking was going to be key today, and we had some really good moments for our blocks, we just needed a little bit more. But honestly, what the girls did, how hard they worked, I couldn’t ask for anything more.”
The Raiders are a perennial power in the state, having won the D1 State title 13 times since 2000 and entered Tuesday night’s match without having lost a single set this year. While that didn’t change, Franklin gave Barnstable its toughest test of the season and scored more points (62) against the Raiders than any other team has in 2018."

In the News: Franklin Police collecting toys; 6 artificial flavors removed

From the Milford Daily News, articles of interest for Franklin:

"During the holiday season, Franklin Police will be delivering more than justice.
For the past four years, the department has helped out Santa Claus with an annual toy drive. From binkies and bibs to baseball gloves and gift cards, Franklin police Detective Eric Copeland said officers delivered hundreds of gifts last year.
Donations of new, unwrapped toys can be dropped off at the Franklin police station until Dec. 20. For monetary donations, checks can be made out to the Franklin Police Association. Used toys can’t be accepted.
Santa will also be stopping by the station from 9 a.m. to noon on Dec. 15 for kids to rattle off their wish lists and snag a photo with Santa. Though the event is free, Copeland said gift donations are greatly appreciated."

"Six artificial flavors are being ordered out of the food supply in a dispute over their safety, but good luck to anyone who wants to know which cookies, candies or drinks they’re in.
The dispute highlights the complex rules that govern what goes in our food, how much the public knows about it, and a mysterious class of ingredients that has evolved over decades largely outside of public view.
On food packages, hundreds of ingredients are listed simply as natural flavor or artificial flavor. Even in minute amounts, they help make potato chips taste oniony or give fruit candy that twang.
“The food system we have is unimaginable without flavor additives,” said Nadia Berenstein, a historian of flavor science based in New York."

FHS' McGrath selected as "Player of the Week"

"Franklin senior Lauren McGrath has been selected as the HockomockSports.com Player of the Week, presented by Morse Insurance, for Nov. 4 through Nov. 10. McGrath is the 10th player chosen as Player of the Week for the 2018-19 school year.
McGrath, a senior setter, was the key piece for a Franklin team that won three tournament games this week, all in five sets, to claim the Div. 1 Central/West title. It was the first sectional title in program history and McGrath was the fulcrum for the Panthers attack, spreading the ball around to Franklin’s array of attacking options, including a program-record 55 assists in the tournament opener against Concord-Carlisle.
“Over these past three playoff games, she has given me 110% for every single ball,” said Franklin head coach Kelsey Weymouth. “She works hard every point to get her feet to the ball. Being the player who never comes out of the game, her head always needs to be in it and over the past few games her drive and passion have reflected on her teammates and it’s awesome to see.”

Check out Coffee In Italia

"As the holiday season gears up, check out new(ish) Franklin owned business www.coffeeinitalia.com for gift ideas for those coffee fiends in your life! Like our page and get notified when our Black Friday sales start.
Or, order now using code "LOCALFREEDELIVER" and pay no shipping if you live in Franklin ... get it delivered straight to your doorstep!"

From the About page:
"Our history with Italian coffee goes back a few years and during that time we've made all the mistakes possible! We received a Moka as a gift and managed to break it after the first use because we paid no attention to the direction not to twist it by the handle. We've learned why the pressure valve is important when making stove-top espresso. We've learned why Italian baristas looked at us knowingly when we order Cappuccino after lunch. We've stared confusingly at an unrequested glass of water provided by the barista in various parts of the country.
Our Italian travels have deepened our love of espresso, not just the drink itself, but more importantly the culture around it that you find in Italy. Popping into a bar in the early morning, late morning, before and after lunch or whenever you need a boost and some chiacchierata (a chat). The process of going to the register to order and pay the reasonable price, then heading to the counter with the receipt for the barista, standing there to drink it. Perfetto!
We plan this site to be more than a place to buy espresso and espresso makers at great prices (although if that’s all you want to do, go for it!). Together we will create a community of like minded Italophiles, travelers, former expats, espresso lovers as well as those who either want to reminisce about their magical Italian experiences or prepare for a new adventure.
We also will be blogging about new coffees, coffee makers, espresso machines and other offerings by the great Italian companies that we love so you can join in the conversation there... "
Let’s talk!

In the News: Hoffman Farm stops milk sale; US Catholic bishops forced to change plans

From the Milford Daily News, articles of interest for Franklin:
"Raw milk sold by Hoffman Farm in Franklin tested positive for small traces of antibiotics early this month.
The farm voluntarily recalled the tainted milk because the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources (MDAR) has a no tolerance policy for the presence of antibiotics in milk.
Hoffman Farm holds a Certificate of Registration from MDAR that permits it to legally sell raw – unpasteurized – milk, according to the state agency. To date, the state has not received any reports of adverse events, according to a press statement from the agency.
The state tests raw milk produced by local dairy farms monthly."

"At the Vatican’s insistence, U.S. Catholic bishops abruptly postponed plans Monday to vote on proposed new steps to address the clergy sex abuse crisis roiling the church.
Cardinal Daniel DiNardo of Galveston-Houston, the president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, said he was told on the eve of the bishop’s national meeting to delay action until after a Vatican-convened global meeting on sex abuse in February.
“We are not ourselves happy about this,” DiNardo told reporters in an unusual public display of frustration at a Vatican pronouncement.
“We are working very hard to move to action — and we’ll do it,” he said. “I think people in the church have a right to be skeptical. I think they also have a right to be hopeful.”
