2020 Census Student Activities Mailed to Every School Across the Nation

"The U.S. Census Bureau recently mailed 2020 Census Statistics in Schools (SIS) kits to every school in the nation. Mailed to every public, private, and charter school administrator, the kits include information for teachers to get access to free activities and materials to use in classrooms during the 2020 Census.
The SIS kits include an administrator booklet which contains a printable flyer for teachers as well as a take-home flyer for students, information on how to access downloadable material on census.gov/schools, and large colorful wall maps for classrooms containing student friendly statistics.

SIS is a nationwide initiative designed to engage educators in helping their communities achieve a complete count in the 2020 Census. Educators across the nation are encouraged to use free census classroom resources and activities to teach students about the importance of the census in determining political representation and how billions of dollars are distributed every year back to local communities based on census counts."

Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young - Teach Your Children (Official Music Video)

"You, who are on the road
Must have a code that you can live by
And so, become yourself
Because the past is just a goodbye

Teach your children well
Their father's hell did slowly go by
And feed them on your dreams
The one they pick, the one you'll know by"

Massachusetts Republican State Committeewoman, Patricia Saint Aubin, Endorsed for Reelection by Taunton’s First Female Mayor

Patricia Saint Aubin of Norfolk, the incumbent Massachusetts Republican State Committeewoman for the Norfolk, Bristol, & Middlesex Senate District, which includes Attleboro, North Attleboro, Plainville, Wrentham, Norfolk, Franklin, Millis, Sherborn, Natick, Wellesley, Needham and Wayland, has been endorsed by Taunton Mayor Shaunna O'Connell.

Saint Aubin, who is looking to extend her term of service to the district on March 3, when party elections coincide with the Super Tuesday primary day, is a life-long Republican and I regularly attends nearly all of the Republican Town Committee meetings in her 11-town and one city district. She is also a member of the Republican Town Committee in Norfolk. “In addition, I have missed only one State Committee meeting since I was elected in 2012,” she says.

“As MassGOP Budget Chair, Patricia has streamlined expenses to provide candidates like me more donation monies,” said O’Connell. In addition, O’Connell noted, Saint Aubin has worked tirelessly for all Republican candidates as` boots on the ground,’ including when “she came to Taunton to door knock for my recent mayoral race.” I urge you to re-elect a hard-working campaigner like Patricia Saint Aubin to a third term as your Republican State Committeewoman,” O’Connell added.

Saint Aubin has worked for the campaigns of numerous Republican presidential, senatorial, and congressional candidates and many, many campaigns for state Representative and Senate within the Bay State. Saint Aubin herself was a candidate for the office of State Auditor in 2014 and was endorsed by the Boston Globe.

The Massachusetts Republican State Committee is the governing body of the Republican Party in Massachusetts. Members of the State Committee play a key role in building the Republican Party in their districts: they recruit candidates, help with fundraising, register new voters, and grow the local Republican City and Town Committees in the district. One state committeeman and one state committeewoman are elected from each state senate district every four years. This year’s State Committee election will be held in conjunction with the Presidential Primary on March 3, 2020.

“If there’s one thing that’s got to be funded, it’s elections"

From the Milford Daily News, articles of interest for Franklin:
"This year is the first in which early voting is an option in Massachusetts for a presidential primary.

The five extra days for voters are designed, in part, to reduce traffic and headaches on Super Tuesday - March 3 - when polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. throughout the state.

“For absentee ballots, you have to be either out of town or can’t physically get there because of a disability or religious (reasons),” said Franklin Town Clerk Teresa Burr. “With early voting, you don’t need an excuse. You can just come in and vote. It makes it more easily accessible.”

Franklin has set its hours from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday; from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday; and from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, in order to help accommodate people who work outside of town."

"A driver can use a phone only if the vehicle is stationary and not in an active travel lane"

From the Boston Globe, an article of interest to Franklin
"It’s time to break some old habits: State officials are reminding drivers the new hands-free law goes into effect Sunday.
“I think all of us have to unlearn behaviors that we have been learning since smartphones have become part of our lives," Secretary of Transportation Stephanie Pollack said Thursday at a news conference.
Massachusetts, Governor Charlie Baker said, "consistently rates among the 10 worst states in the country for distracted driving, and I think in many ways this law is overdue, but I also believe it will, over time, save lives.”

  • "You CAN’T enter a number or talk on a phone without hands-free mode
  • You CAN’T look at photos or videos
  • You STILL CAN’T text while driving
  • You CAN’T use your phone at a stoplight
  • If you’re under 18, you CAN’T use your phone in any capacity"

"Drivers might think twice about gunning it through an intersection when the light has just turned red if a bill the Massachusetts Senate plans to debate next week becomes law.

Under a bill (S 2553) scheduled for a vote next Thursday when the Senate meets in its next formal session, cities and towns across Massachusetts could decide to install automated road safety camera systems to identify and then photograph vehicles that commit any number of traffic law violations at intersections.

The camera systems could look for vehicles that fail to stop at a red light, cars traveling at least five miles an hour above the posted speed limit, vehicles making a right turn at a red light where prohibited, and cars blocking an intersection or bus lane. Drivers who put the pedal down when they see a yellow light, however, would be are safe -- the bill declares that it would not be a violation “if any part of the vehicle was over the stop line when the light was yellow.”

If caught by a camera, the vehicle owner could be hit with a fine of up to $25 under the bill, which was originally filed by Sen. William Brownsberger and redrafted by the Ways and Means Committee."

Social Security Launches New Campaign to Fight Scammers (video)

"Recently, we launched a new Public Service Announcement campaign as our latest step to caution you about the ongoing nationwide telephone impersonation scheme. The videos feature a message from our Commissioner, Andrew Saul.
Along with our Office of the Inspector General, we continue to receive reports about fraudulent phone calls and emails from people falsely claiming they’re government employees.
The scammers play on emotions like fear to convince people to provide personal information or money in cash, wire transfers, or gift cards. Fraudsters are also emailing fake documents in attempts to get people to comply with their demands."
