FHS field hockey, volleyball, and golf teams post wins on Monday

Via Twitter and our subscription to HockomockSports.com, we share the results of the fall sports competition for Franklin High School on Monday, Oct 16, 2023.

Field Hockey = King Philip, 0 @ Franklin, 3 – Final
Ryan Lanigan, founder and Editor-in-Chief of HockomockSports.com provides the game recap:
"Two weeks ago, Franklin emerged from a hard-fought battle against Foxboro with a win, but head coach Michelle Hess admitted her squad was a bit nervous before the contest.
Fast forward nearly two weeks and Franklin has now boosted its résumé on top of the win over Foxboro: a victory on the road at Concord-Carlisle, a shutout over perennial league power Canton last week, and the latest addition a 3-0 win over Kelley-Rex division rival King Philip on Monday afternoon.

It’s safe to say the Panthers are now ready to play in the big games.

“I think this stretch has helped us learn to play in these types of games,” Hess said. “As a coach, you’re always waiting for that ‘aha!’ moment where everyone comes together and says we got this. Their confidence in each other has really grown lately. Staying positive has been a big focus of ours this year, and they’ve really bought into it. We’re at that moment now and everyone is gelling, all the way from the front to the back, everyone is on the same page."

Lindsay Dennett had 2 AMAZING defensive saves & Maddie O’Brien & Ella Griffin each also had an incredible defensive save! I am so proud of this total team effort!! These girls are just amazing! They work so hard from the front line all the way back to the last line of defense!

Volleyball = King Philip, 1 @ Franklin, 3 – Final
Josh Perry, Managing Editor of HockomockSports.com provides the game recap:
"After failing to close out late leads in each of the first two sets of Monday night’s showdown of defending league champs, King Philip was finally able to hold off Franklin in the third to stay alive in the match. Ryann O’Sullivan rose up and smashed the final point and the visitors had a little momentum on their side.
Sometimes, a team taking the third set can carry that energy over and suddenly the teams are in the fifth and a match that seemed in control could go either way. That wasn’t how it played out on Monday.

Franklin jumped out to an early lead in the fourth and, while KP would get as close as two points at 10-8, pulled away to win the set comfortably, 25-16. With the 3-1 (25-20, 25-23, 23-25, 25-16) win, the Panthers swept the season series with KP and remained tied with Attleboro atop the Kelley-Rex division.

“We’ve been really trying to work on not acting like we’ve won after set two,” Franklin coach Samantha Redmond explained. “All year our third sets have been our lowest, so it’s a lot of refocusing. KP is a great team, but we made a lot of errors, so just minimize that and everything hopefully will go okay.”
