Police Alert: missing 20 year old, male, last seen in the Phyllis Lane area of Franklin

The Franklin Police is attempting to locate a missing 20 year old, male. His name is Michael Doherty. He was last seen in the Phyllis LN area at approximately 1:30 AM this (Sunday) morning. 

He was last seen wearing a blue t-shirt with a Nike symbol, black pants and sneakers. 

He is a white male 5 feet 10 inches tall with brown hair and brown eyes. 

We urge you to check the area outside your residence including any sheds or detached buildings and call the Franklin Police at 508 528 1212 if you have any information. 

Please be advised during this time you may see increased public safety presence in the area.

MBTA: Franklin Line notice on parking at Norwood Central; elevator at South Station

Franklin Line notice: Parking availability may be limited at the southern section of the Lenox Street parking lot at Norwood Central Station from Wednesday, March 29, through Tuesday, April 4.

Due to a bridge replacement project on Guild Street, parking availability may be limited at the southern section of the Lenox Street parking lot at Norwood Central Station from Wednesday, March 29, through Tuesday, April 4. Availability will meet demand as some spaces in the southern edge of the lot will be used to support the bridge replacement efforts.

O'Donnell today announced the 500th sign-up of a free on-line Consumer Notification Service designed to protect Norfolk County property owners against fraud. "We are delighted that in less than 2 years people continue to enroll in the program. Our goal is to get every property owner in the county to sign-up for it," noted O'Donnell. The Register has cited recent F.B.I. statistics that property and mortgage fraud is one of the fastest growing white collar crimes in the United States. "Multiple jurisdictions across the country have reported individuals recording fraudulent documents and making it appear like they own another person's home or property. While we have been fortunate that this problem has not revealed itself here in Norfolk County, I want to make sure my office is proactively and vigorously protecting consumers," noted Register O'Donnell. Any owner of real property in the twenty-eight communities comprising Norfolk County can sign-up for the Consumer Notification Service free of charge by doing the following simple steps: Go to the Registry's website, www.norfolkdeeds.org, and click on the Consumer Notification Service Get Consumer Alerts button to complete the initial registration. From there, follow the remaining sign-up instructions, it only takes a minute or two to complete. Once you have signed up for the service, each subscriber will be able to input two names, individual or business, as well as the corresponding city or town in Norfolk County for monitoring. They can check their property for such activities as changes in deeds, mortgages, non-mortgage liens, Homesteads or other land document transactions that might be recorded against their name. If a document is recorded against one of the names inputted for monitoring, the subscriber will be alerted via email, usually within 24 hours. We are looking for a missing 76 y/o white female with mild dementia who walked away from her assisted living residence of 656 King Street at about 1 am today. 

Her name is Esther Hicks; 5'7", gray shoulder length hair, last seen wearing black pants, red jacket, wears glasses.

One way to proactively address fraud is to set up alerts when your information would be used. The Norfolk County Registry of Deeds has just made available an alert program to monitor your property deed. I set up my alert on Friday and it was quick and easy to do so. I hope it nevers goes off, but if it does, I'll get a warning.

This "Purple Heart" community received an "unqualified opinion"

The Town Council meeting was varied and efficiently conducted in just about an hour. The summary of items discussed and where appropriate voted on is as follows:

• A proclamation was made to recognize Franklin as a "Purple Heart Community"
• The liquor license transfer from Soco Rose to GBU was approved.
• The DPW was authorized to purchase a 'hot box' to help improve the pot hole patching process.
• Chief Gary McCarragher presented on Ping4Alerts, a new alert system being deployed by MEMA and Franklin for all the alerts and other targeted important notifications.
• The auditors talked about the "unqualified opinion" that Franklin received as being the highest rating and how "solid and well managed" Franklin was overall.
• The insurance payments for the Keller sprinkler incident required a Council vote to approve the disbursement. As the payments had come to the Franklin accounts, the Council needed to authorize the payments to the vendors involved. Most of the insurance reimbursements had gone directly to the vendors and hence did not require a Council vote.

Update: E-ZPass email phishing scam - sample email

I had shared the alert from MassDOT about the E-ZPass email phishing scam that was making the rounds. As I checked my email spam folder this morning, I found that I had one! How cool... This is what I got and how it looks in Gmail:

While the Google spam filter has already identified this as spam, one of the key place to look is in the email address. The header of the email will look official (E-ZPass Service Center) but the actual email address will be something other than what it should be (support at dadomu.ru). The .ru in this case indicated the email is from a Russian domain.

The simple word on how to deal with suspicious emails? Delete.

Don't follow the link, you could pick up a virus or worse. Don't ever provide information if you do follow the link. They are looking for your account info and will take you for a ride if you give it to them.

MBTA: new alert service starting June 4

As a long time commuter rail rider, I still subscribe to the T-alerts. What are T-alerts?

An alert service that sends text messages or an email to your phone or mobile device when the line you are subscribed to is having trouble. Wonder why the train is late? Ah, technical difficulty or signal trouble, or police activity. The T-alerts have improved in timeliness over the years. So even though I drive down to RI now, I still subscribe for those occasions when I would take the train in on the weekend or to just keep tabs on what is happening with the Franklin line in particular.

MBTA

Beginning June 4, the MBTA will begin using a new service to send T-Alerts. As part of the transition, the MBTA is asking all current subscribers to re-subscribe in order to continue receiving T-Alerts. Visit http://bit.ly/10yX5zj to subscribe or learn more. You must re-subscribe by Thursday, June 4, in order to continue receiving T-Alerts. Thank you.

So if you have subscribed, you should have received the notice above about the change in the service. If you haven't subscribed, maybe now is a good time to do so. Why wait on the platform without knowing? Why not be 'in the know'!

An unknown group is soliciting Franklin residents for donations.  They claim to be working with the Franklin Police Department to develop a "Don't Drink and Drive" type program, geared towards younger people.

The Franklin Police Department is NOT SOLICTING FOR ANY FUNDS.  We have NO affiliation with this group.

If contacted, you are urged to report this (and any phone number you may obtain) to the Office of the Attorney General.
