Register O’Donnell Announces Toys for Tots Drive
Believing that the true spirit of the holidays is based on giving, Norfolk County Register of Deeds William P. O’Donnell announced today that the Registry will be sponsoring its 15th Annual U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots drive.
“The registry is proud to partner with the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve to help deliver a happy Christmas to children this holiday season,” said Register O’Donnell. “Also, we thank the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve and all our Military personnel for their service.”

“This year, especially with inflation rates at record highs, the registry is reaching out to the Norfolk County community to give to the Toys for Tots drive,” said O’Donnell. “Because no family should have to struggle to give their child a gift this holiday season.”
This year marks the 75th anniversary of Toys for Tots. The program was established in 1947 when the wife of a Marine major wanted to donate a Raggedy Ann doll for Christmas, but couldn’t find an organization to accept it. Since then, the national program has delivered over 627 million toys.
Register O’Donnell noted, “Every holiday season, the Registry witnesses firsthand the many acts of kindness and Christmas spirit as numerous people drop off gifts for the Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots drive. It’s truly wonderful to see so many people drop off gifts, from Registry employees to title examiners to attorneys and from the general public,” noted Register O’Donnell.
The U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program’s mission is to help less fortunate children experience the joy and happiness associated with Christmas. The program operates in more than 800 cities and towns throughout all 50 states.
“Since that time, this program has spread so much joy with the gifts that have been donated,” noted the Register.
Register O’Donnell concluded, "We all have the power to make a child’s Christmas something special, and therefore, giving to the Toys for Tots drive just might make it the best Christmas present you can give yourself this holiday season."

Norfolk County Register of Deeds William P. O’Donnell Thanks Contributors to Registry’s Annual Holiday Food Pantry and Toys for Tots Drives
Norfolk County Register of Deeds William P. O’Donnell today expressed his sincere appreciation to everyone who contributed to the Registry’s 2021 Annual Holiday Food Drive and Toys for Tots collection. “Despite the ongoing pandemic, both our Holiday Food Pantry Drive and Toys for Tots collection were a great success,” stated the Register.
“I am thankful,” O’Donnell noted, “for the generosity of so many Norfolk County residents who took the opportunity to donate and to help make the holiday season a little more special for those facing hardships. I’m also grateful to our employees who contributed and helped to organize the drives.”
The non-perishable food collected during the drive is dispensed to several pantries throughout Norfolk County and in early December several boxes of toys were delivered to the US Marine Corps Reserve depot at the Convention Center in South Boston.
Register O’Donnell stated, “While the holiday food drive has ended, it does not stop hunger from affecting many of our neighbors. A report done by Project Bread noted that approximately 1 out of 10 households in Massachusetts are considered food insecure and 1 out of 8 Massachusetts children are in the same category. Altogether there are 266,500 food insecure households in Massachusetts.
Register O’Donnell concluded by saying, “I urge residents to continue their generosity by dropping off supplies at their local pantries. Beside food, many pantries are requesting toiletries and paper products. Dropping off a donation at your local food pantry can make a world of difference to a struggling family, especially in the winter months when the cost of fuel can play havoc with a family’s budget.”
For a list of food pantries, please visit the Registry of Deeds website at www.norfolkdeeds.org, go to the top of the menu bar, click on News and Events and then in the drop down box click on “food pantries”. Mason and William Roddy have experienced that feeling in spades in the process of organizing their Toys for Tufts gift donation drive. Although they’ve been doing the drive for three years, this is the second “official” year that Franklin’s Keller Elementary School and Annie Sullivan Middle School have been involved.
The drive continues through this week, with pick-up of donations planned early on Friday, Dec. 13.
“We are so excited to be doing this again, and to have the support of so many,” says Paetra Ranieri, the boys’ mother."

In the News: 2nd Annual Toys for Tots at Alumni
"With a blended family of five children ages 6-17, John MacLennan and his wife, Tara, try their “absolute best” to keep a smile on the kids’ faces.
For the Plainville couple, there is nothing quite like inspiring smiles and joy. And they don’t keep it just within the family.
The pair are the organizers behind the Toys For Tots Festival planned for Saturday at Franklin’s Alumni Restaurant. The event, which will take place from 3-11 p.m., is aimed at bringing people together to enjoy entertainment, food and cheerful company while also benefiting a cause that is sure to inspire countless smiles come Christmas morning.
This is the second year the couple is planning the event."

MyFM's Stuff-a-Bus - Dec 2-3
"Folks are invited to visit us on location, right outside of Target with an unwrapped toy donation for Toys For Tots", explains MyFM's "Mr. Everything" Ray Auger. "The idea is to fill a Vendetti Bus in that 30-hour period. It's a aggressive goal but I know the kind of people we are working with in this community and I know it can be done."
The idea came to Auger from past Stuff-a-Bus events he was involved with working on radio station on Cape Cod and Portsmouth, NH. Target was quick to agree to help with the location and Vendetti Bus, a good friend of MyFM, was happy to lend them the bus. In case of exceeding their goal, the MyFM and Asphalt Engineering Station Wagon will also be on hand for additional storage of toys.
"We are very excited to add this event to our myriad of community outreach programs at MyFM Media," says MyFM Media President Tom McAuliffe. "Our local community supports us in so many wonderful ways, so giving back like this is never a question."
Can't make it to the event or want to give a little more? "We are offering a fun incentive for anyone who would like to donate $200 to the Stuff-a-Bus efforts", Auger adds. "We will broadcast a Facebook Live Shopping Spree in your honor to thank you for your generous donation. Anyone interested should contact me at your convenience."
If you would like more information about MyFM's Stuff-a-Bus, please contact Ray Auger at 617-851-7542 or www.myfm1013.com.
