Register O'Donnell Wraps Up 15th Annual Toys for Tots Drive

Norfolk County Register of Deeds William P. O'Donnell and Registry Staff delivered donations from the Registry's Annual Toys for Tots drive to Staff Sgt. Fetrow, Sgt. Ponte, and Cpl. Silveria, representing the 1st Battalion, 25th Marines, during a pickup event on Dec. 7th.

With the help of the local community, business owners, and staff, the Registry collected more than 100 gifts during the drive.

"I would like to thank everyone who generously donated to the Registry's 15th Annual Toys for Tots Drive. We are grateful for the service of all veterans past and present and are, as always, honored to partner with the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve in their annual toy drive, which helps make the holiday brighter for so many," said Registrar O'Donnell.

The Registry of Deeds has collected over 1,600 donations for Toys for Tots since 2007.

"We can't possibly do this without the support of the local community, and seeing people come out to donate means everything," said Staff Sgt. Andrew Fetrow. "By doing an event like this, you get to witness the best side of people and know that these donations are going to give children, who might not otherwise have had the opportunity, a happy Christmas."

This year marks the 75th anniversary of Toys for Tots. The U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program's mission is to help less fortunate children experience the joy and happiness associated with Christmas. The program operates in more than 800 cities and towns throughout all 50 states. Since 1947, the national program has delivered more than 627 million toys.

Register O’Donnell Announces Toys for Tots Drive

Believing that the true spirit of the holidays is based on giving, Norfolk County Register of Deeds William P. O’Donnell announced today that the Registry will be sponsoring its 15th Annual U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots drive.

“The registry is proud to partner with the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve to help deliver a happy Christmas to children this holiday season,” said Register O’Donnell. “Also, we thank the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve and all our Military personnel for their service.”

Donations of new toys and games for toddlers and children up to age ten can be brought directly to the Norfolk County Registry of Deeds building located at 649 High St. in Dedham from Monday, November 21, 2022, until noon on Wednesday, December 7, 2022. A marked donation bin will be set up in the lobby, which is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.

“This year, especially with inflation rates at record highs, the registry is reaching out to the Norfolk County community to give to the Toys for Tots drive,” said O’Donnell. “Because no family should have to struggle to give their child a gift this holiday season.”

This year marks the 75th anniversary of Toys for Tots. The program was established in 1947 when the wife of a Marine major wanted to donate a Raggedy Ann doll for Christmas, but couldn’t find an organization to accept it. Since then, the national program has delivered over 627 million toys.

Register O’Donnell noted, “Every holiday season, the Registry witnesses firsthand the many acts of kindness and Christmas spirit as numerous people drop off gifts for the Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots drive. It’s truly wonderful to see so many people drop off gifts, from Registry employees to title examiners to attorneys and from the general public,” noted Register O’Donnell.

The U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program’s mission is to help less fortunate children experience the joy and happiness associated with Christmas. The program operates in more than 800 cities and towns throughout all 50 states.

“Since that time, this program has spread so much joy with the gifts that have been donated,” noted the Register.

Register O’Donnell concluded, "We all have the power to make a child’s Christmas something special, and therefore, giving to the Toys for Tots drive just might make it the best Christmas present you can give yourself this holiday season."

Norfolk County Register of Deeds William P. O’Donnell Thanks Contributors to Registry’s Annual Holiday Food Pantry and Toys for Tots Drives

Norfolk County Register of Deeds William P. O’Donnell today expressed his sincere appreciation to everyone who contributed to the Registry’s 2021 Annual Holiday Food Drive and Toys for Tots collection. “Despite the ongoing pandemic, both our Holiday Food Pantry Drive and Toys for Tots collection were a great success,” stated the Register.

“I am thankful,” O’Donnell noted, “for the generosity of so many Norfolk County residents who took the opportunity to donate and to help make the holiday season a little more special for those facing hardships. I’m also grateful to our employees who contributed and helped to organize the drives.”

The non-perishable food collected during the drive is dispensed to several pantries throughout Norfolk County and in early December several boxes of toys were delivered to the US Marine Corps Reserve depot at the Convention Center in South Boston.

Register O’Donnell stated, “While the holiday food drive has ended, it does not stop hunger from affecting many of our neighbors. A report done by Project Bread noted that approximately 1 out of 10 households in Massachusetts are considered food insecure and 1 out of 8 Massachusetts children are in the same category. Altogether there are 266,500 food insecure households in Massachusetts.

Register O’Donnell concluded by saying, “I urge residents to continue their generosity by dropping off supplies at their local pantries. Beside food, many pantries are requesting toiletries and paper products. Dropping off a donation at your local food pantry can make a world of difference to a struggling family, especially in the winter months when the cost of fuel can play havoc with a family’s budget.”

For a list of food pantries, please visit the Registry of Deeds website at www.norfolkdeeds.org, go to the top of the menu bar, click on News and Events and then in the drop down box click on “food pantries”. The drive continues through this week, with pick-up of donations planned early on Friday, Dec. 13.

“We are so excited to be doing this again, and to have the support of so many,” says Paetra Ranieri, the boys’ mother."

MyFM's Stuff-a-Bus - Dec 2-3

On Saturday, December 2nd at 6 AM right through Sunday, December 3rd at 12 PM, MyFM Media will be setting up camp outside of Target on Fortune Boulevard in Milford for their first annual Stuff-a-Bus event collecting toys for Toys For Tots.

"Folks are invited to visit us on location, right outside of Target with an unwrapped toy donation for Toys For Tots", explains MyFM's "Mr. Everything" Ray Auger. "The idea is to fill a Vendetti Bus in that 30-hour period. It's a aggressive goal but I know the kind of people we are working with in this community and I know it can be done."

The idea came to Auger from past Stuff-a-Bus events he was involved with working on radio station on Cape Cod and Portsmouth, NH. Target was quick to agree to help with the location and Vendetti Bus, a good friend of MyFM, was happy to lend them the bus. In case of exceeding their goal, the MyFM and Asphalt Engineering Station Wagon will also be on hand for additional storage of toys.

"We are very excited to add this event to our myriad of community outreach programs at MyFM Media," says MyFM Media President Tom McAuliffe. "Our local community supports us in so many wonderful ways, so giving back like this is never a question."

Can't make it to the event or want to give a little more? "We are offering a fun incentive for anyone who would like to donate $200 to the Stuff-a-Bus efforts", Auger adds. "We will broadcast a Facebook Live Shopping Spree in your honor to thank you for your generous donation. Anyone interested should contact me at your convenience."

If you would like more information about MyFM's Stuff-a-Bus, please contact Ray Auger at 617-851-7542 or www.myfm1013.com.
