Both FHS lacrosse teams top Mansfield on Wednesday
From Hockomock Sports, we share the results of the FHS spring sports action on Wednesday, April 26.
Boys Lacrosse = Franklin, 15 @ Mansfield, 1 – Final
– Franklin sophomore Jacob Alexander dominated at the face off X, Connor O’Rourke and the Panthers defense pitched a shutout in the second half and four different players scored at least twice in the Panthers’ big win. Alexander won 16 of 17 face off attempts while O’Rourke made seven saves. The Panthers defense had a lock down effort in keeping Mansfield to its lowest output of the year. Eric Civetti had five goals and one assist, Packie Watson had two goals and two assists, Chase Tanner scored twice and had one helper and Nitin Chaudhury found the back of the net twice.
Girls Lacrosse = Mansfield, 4 @ Franklin, 15 – Final
– Eight different players found the back of the net as Franklin bounced back from its first loss of the season with a key division win. Jordan Jette had two goals and two assists, Kelsey MacCallum netted a hat trick and Nicole Houlihan scored twice for the Panthers. Head coach Kristin Igoe Guarino praised the defensive work of Grace MacCallum, who forced three turnovers and had five draw controls.

FSPA All Access Pass For Prospective Students To Feature Complimentary Spring Concert Tickets And May Open Houses
Franklin School for the Performing Arts (FSPA) is pleased to provide prospective students with complimentary tickets to FSPA Spring Concert performances as part of the school’s All Access Pass program. Families are invited to learn more about FSPA programs in music, dance and drama.
The Spring Concert shows provide a dynamic way to experience what the school has to offer across many dance disciplines, voice, acting, instrumental music, and musical theater programming. Spring Concert performances will be presented on Saturday, May 20 at 4:00 and 7:00 p.m. and on Sunday, May 21 at 1:00 and 4:00 p.m. at the Franklin High School Auditorium, located at 218 Oak Street. Featuring FSPA students of many ages and levels, Spring Concert is presented in an audience-friendly, 90-minute format.
FSPA will also host spring Open Houses on Tuesday, May 9 and Wednesday, May 24 from 4-8 p.m. at 38 Main Street in downtown Franklin. The community is invited to tour the facilities, observe classes and rehearsals, speak with faculty and staff, and learn more about FSPA programs.
Founded in 1985 by Director Raye Lynn Mercer, FSPA has been dedicated to the enjoyment of the arts for all ages and to the artistic growth and development of young people. The school offers classes in all dance disciplines, acting, musical theater, voice, and instrumental instruction, whether for recreational enjoyment or serious study.
FSPA is also home to the Little Music School, an innovative program that teaches children as young as 18 months to play the piano. An unparalleled calendar of performing opportunities features musicals, plays, ballets, voice and instrumental recitals, opera scenes, acoustic coffee houses, musical theater and dance company showcases, and more. Many FSPA students are also cast, by audition, in the affiliated Franklin Performing Arts Company’s annual season of shows. FSPA TALENT offers management services for young performers who elect to pursue professional opportunities.
FSPA is also pleased to offer FSPA Academy, an academic alternative for students seeking a challenging curriculum in a supportive, flexible environment that encourages their creative goals. Provided Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in collaboration with the Massachusetts Virtual Academy (MAVA), the program builds upon MAVA’s state-approved online curriculum and features an enhanced emphasis on arts, language, and culture, including Music Theory, foreign language conversation classes, field trips and more.
In addition, a new FSPA AfterSchool enrichment program offers supervised recreational experiences, including games, crafts and other creative arts activities, for students in grades K-5. The program begins at the close of the regular school day, with transportation available from Franklin and Medway schools.
Prospective students and families should call FSPA at 508-528-8668 to reserve their complimentary tickets and schedule a trial class or tour of the facilities. Classes continue at FSPA through June 19 and the summer session begins on June 26. Registration for summer and fall is ongoing. "A local man was arraigned in Wrentham District Court Wednesday on several drug charges - including one that he made methamphetamine - resulting from a March hazmat response to his house.
Paul Therieau, 52, of 84 Stewart St., pleaded not guilty to manufacture of a class B substance, possession of a class B substance with intent to distribute, possession with intent to manufacture a class B substance, possession of a class B substance and four counts of attempting to commit a crime.
There was much discussion over Therieau’s conditions of release, as prosecutors wished to prohibit him from possessing any chemical that could be used in the manufacture of methamphetamine. When it was pointed out that common household chemicals like alcohol fell under that category, the defense and prosecution were given until May 4 to compile a list. In the meantime, Therieau remains free on personal recognizance."

We are pleased to welcome back certified financial planner, Michael Weiner. Michael is an expert in helping special needs parents plan for the future of their children. He uses his own experiences to speak to families, breaking down complex legal and financial terminology in a way that is easy to understand, helping parents to take advantage of the programming that is out there for their loved ones. If you are parent thinking ahead about your child's financial future then this workshop is not to be missed.
It is never too early to start planning!
This workshop will be held in the third-floor training room of the Municipal Building, 355 East Central Street, Franklin.

About Franklin SEPAC:
The mission of the Franklin Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC) is to promote a network for parents of children with disabilities and provide a forum to share information and discuss matters of relative interest and concern regarding our children. This group provides regular forums for Pupil Personnel Services and parents to share information and discuss pertinent issues; develops, maintains and shares tools and a resource guide; and raises awareness of children with special needs.
We host monthly workshops educating parents on special-needs topics. We also hold support groups, fun meet-ups for the kids (like October's Halloween Party at Tangerini's Farm), and donate educational supplies to the Franklin Public School Special Education programs. We are a volunteer-run organization and need donations to help alleviate the costs of the above-mentioned programs. We receive our primary funding through an annual "Evening of Comedy" fundraiser that we host in April. www.franklinsepac.org

A Career Day will be held at Franklin High School on Friday April 28 between 7:30 and 9:30 AM. Sponsored by the PCC and FHS staff, it will provide an opportunity for all juniors to meet with local professionals.
Guest speakers, the majority FHS parents, will discuss their occupations and career "pathway." Featured will be 37 members of our community who work in Heath, Business, STEM, Arts, and Government/Human services.

Mandatory Water Conservation Measures Are in Effect Starting Monday April 24, 2017 Automatic Lawn Irrigation is Restricted To One Day Per Week On Trash Day.
Due to the on going dry conditions, the summer Water Conservation Measures have been put in place. The summer Water Conservation Measures are needed to limit the daily demand on the water system in order to ensure that adequate water is available to meet the public health and safety needs of the Town. This measure is necessary to maintain the water levels in the tanks for fire protection and normal consumption.
During the summer months, the Town experiences excessively high demands for water due to lawn watering. There have been 24-hour periods during which water consumption has been more than twice our average daily water usage for the year.
Because of the tremendous increase in the demand for water and State restrictions on the amount of water that can be pumped daily, the Town of Franklin must place mandatory water conservation measures in effect for lawn watering during the summer months.
A total of 1-inch of water once per week from rain and watering promotes the healthiest lawns. Non-compliance with these regulations could adversely affect public health and safety. Violators are subject to fines up to $200.
Private irrigation wells are not required to follow the water conservation measures, however, please remember that irrigation wells are taking water from the same aquifer as Franklin's drinking water wells, so please water wisely! If you receive a violation warning from the DPW, please call 508-520-4910 and let us know you have a private well.

Building Better Athletes
Mission:
The mission of the 2017 Summer Strength and Conditioning program is to create and develop a strong work ethic among our student athletes; through proper running mechanics, lifting form and technique athletes will maximize performance on the court, field and ice. Strength and Conditioning will instill and build upon self confidence not only in body but also in mind. Dedication to this program creates a culture of what it means to be a Panther.
High School Strength and Conditioning
Athletics are becoming increasingly competitive at all levels. Athletes who are stronger, run faster, move quicker and jump higher have the competitive advantage over others. The Franklin High School Strength and Conditioning Program will optimize your athletic ability, maximize performance, and reduce the potential risk for injury. The comprehensive summer training program will build self-confidence, increase muscular strength and endurance, enhance explosive power, and improve flexibility, speed and agility.
Every student enrolled in this program is guaranteed to get stronger, faster, & quicker! All participants will learn proper running mechanics (arm action, first step quickness, foot speed and agility) and be engaged in level appropriate strength training (powerlifting & Olympic lifting). Every session will include a dynamic warm-up, speed, quickness and agility drills, injury prevention exercises, core training, and flexibility.
In addition to the general speed and conditioning workouts, athletes will learn how to apply their newfound movability into their sports. A portion of each session will teach the athletes how to apply these techniques on the court, field, or ice.
Middle School Strength and Conditioning (incoming grades 7&8)
Each training session will be devoted to an age appropriate workout that mirrors the High School Strength and Conditioning Program. All participants will learn proper running mechanics (arm action, first step quickness, foot speed and agility) and be engaged in age appropriate strength training & plyometric training. Every session will include a dynamic warm-up, speed, quickness and agility drills, injury prevention exercises, core training, and flexibility.
Middle School Fitness and Games (incoming grades 5-7)
The middle school fitness and games program will focus on overall fitness, speed and agility training. The first half of each session will be devoted to an age appropriate workout (a combination of body weight exercises, fitness, core work, flexibility and learning proper running mechanics). The second half of each session will involve team games that require a high level of physical activity that balance fitness and fun.

The cost of all Strength and Conditioning sessions for the summer of 2017 is:
Early registration and payment fee (Registration and payment must be received before June 19th) $150
Late registration (Registration and/or payment received on or after June 19th) $165

What To Bring
All participants will be expected to wear the proper athletic clothing (shorts and tee shirt) and the appropriate athletic footwear.
Participants must also bring a water bottle for refilling during the program. Keeping well hydrated is essential for staying healthy on hot days. There will be a water cooler for refilling bottles available at all program.
No concessions will be sold during program.
The program is not responsible for the valuables (wallets, cell phones) of participants.

All programs run Monday –Thursday from June 26th – August 17th (July 4th and 5th will be OFF)
All high school sessions are restricted to students attending Franklin Public Schools.
High School sessions are denoted with an *.
Each high school session is targeted at a specific sport. Franklin High School students entering grades 10-12 can attend any of the first 3 workouts if there are scheduling conflicts. Incoming 9th grade boys are MUST attend the 11:00-12:30 session.

Director of Strength and Conditioning - Matthew McLaughlin M.S. Strength and Conditioning Bridgewater St. University; CSCS, USAW
Matt has 7 years of experience as a strength and conditioning coach at Wheaton College, Bridgewater State University, United States Olympic training center, Attack Athletics, and Athletic Based Training. Matt has worked with athletes from the elementary, middle and high school level as well as DI-III colleges, and professionals. Matt has also spent 2 years prior to coming to FHS working under former director Liane Blyn.
Matt was a 4 year college basketball player at Bridgewater State University, where he helped lead his team to their first ever trip to the DIII NCAA tournament "Sweet 16" round. After graduating with a Bachelor's in Exercise Science he went back to BSU for his Masters in Strength & Conditioning, and began competing in Olympic weightlifting. He competed in the collegiate nationals 2 years in a row (2011-2012) in Shreveport Louisiana. He currently trains with Co-Director Mike Masto in hopes to compete once again!
Matt has put together programs tailored to each specific sport and level of ability for each athlete, allowing them to maximize their time at workouts. To prepare these workouts for 7 sessions and each individual sport, Matt will spend at least an additional 14 hours a week in prep. He will be responsible for modifications in program design due to injured athletes, or any limitations that may arise. Matt will run the teaching component of our staff orientation training to ensure all coaches are using effective methods of instruction.

Mr. Masto is entering his 8th year in Franklin Public Schools and has served in numerous roles related to this program's success. The most pertinent, is his role with the summer Strength and Conditioning program. Since the start of this program in 2013, Mike has served as an Assistant Coach to Liane Blyn since the program started, and aided Liane as the program jumped from 150 participants in 2013, to 613 in 2016!. Mike has served as a Coach of numerous Sports here at Franklin High School including: Swimming and Diving, Football, Lacrosse and Basketball.
Mike has his masters in Athletic Administration and will be primarily responsible for the organization of the program. His focus is the athlete, and whatever it takes to help that athlete succeed.
