"Diary of a Dreamer" by Fatima Wojohat - Dec 1, from 3 to 5 PM

Who is Fatima Wojohat?

From the Uncensored Gallery we find:
Fatima Wojohat was 19 when the Taliban retook Afghanistan. After the Taliban imposed restrictions on women she started creating artwork on her smartphone, she is self-taught, and now works with the ArtLords' artivist movement.

The illustration focuses on issues surrounding Qatar's hosting of the World Cup, including suppression of workers' and womens' rights.

There is hope though. She says, "The purpose of drawing hearts in my artworks is to be a light in the darkness. I dream my dream my beautiful world because I am a dreamer."

Franklin TV: Full-on Holiday Mode

Ready or Not – It’s Here
by Pete Fasciano, Executive Director 11/26/2023

Yep. It’s here. It’s all around us and expanding by the day. There were early signs in late October – commercials hinting at ‘the coming holidays’ well before Halloween. Get ready to get ready.

We are watching Black Friday transform from a Big Bargain Day after Turkey Day to a full-on Sensational Season of Stupendously Spectacular Sale Savings. – Srsly? It’s the mercantile engine that launches our holiday season with serious spending.

There’s more than one origin story for Black Friday. The mythology: Black Friday is about retail sales. After an entire year of operating at a loss (in the red) stores would supposedly earn a profit (go into the black) on the day after Thanksgiving with holiday shoppers spending heavily for Christmas gifts and decor.

Yes, but no.

In 1950s Philadelphia, police coined the term to describe chaos on the day after Thanksgiving, when hordes of suburban shoppers and tourists flooded into the city for the Army-Navy football game on Saturday. Not only were police not able to take the day off, but they had to work long shifts coping with heavy crowds and traffic. Shoplifting also spiked amidst large crowds of shoppers. Hence, Black Friday.

In the eighties, retailers promoted the myth and opened their stores early – at 6 AM, then 5 AM, then 12 midnight, then …

This year the Black Friday Savings juggernaut began online – in early November. Too much, too soon? I haven’t finished my Halloween candy yet.

And – as always –
Thank you for listening to wfpr●fm.
And, thank you for watching.

Franklin Garden Club to Sell Decorated Holiday Wreaths and Arrangements

The Franklin Garden Club will sell decorated holiday wreaths and cemetery arrangements on Saturday, December 2,  from 9:30 AM – 12:00 PM at Daddario’s Hardware Store, 528 West Central Street, Franklin, MA.

In addition, holiday fresh floral arrangements will be sold on Instagram and Facebook beginning December 16. The Franklin Garden Club Instagram handle is @franklingardenclubma. The sales will benefit several different club activities.

Payment for all purchases can be made with cash, check, credit card or Venmo.

The real wreaths will be decorated in a variety of colors and styles and will include eye-catching bows and other ornamentation. Many will include a variety of greens, as will the cemetery boxes.  All items will be reasonably priced:  wreaths - $30; cemetery planters and swags- $20. The floral arrangements, created with fresh flowers and greens, will feature either holiday or winter themes and will be priced from $15 - $40.

Club Co-Presidents Pat Donnelly and Mary Anne Dean stated,
“We are very excited to offer area residents the opportunity to purchase beautiful holiday wreaths and arrangements created by members of the Franklin Garden Club.  This will help those who may not have the time to decorate their own wreaths or make arrangements, while also assisting the Club. "
All proceeds will benefit Garden Club activities, including the Club scholarship, pine tree seedling program for elementary school students, some of the Franklin Common and library plantings, and education programs open to the public.

The Franklin Garden Club is a member of the Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts.
