Reminder: Franklin Art Association meeting features Phil Pariseau - Feb 7, 2024

The Franklin Art Association's February meeting will take place on  Wednesday, February 7 at 6:30 PM at the Franklin (MA) Senior Center, when our Demo Artist will be painter Phil Pariseau.

Phil Pariseau is a self-taught glass artist working on Cape Cod and Franklin, MA.

Phil's early interest in glass began with a glass blowing class more than 25 years ago and developed into a passion for creating kiln-formed pieces of art and unique glass gifts. Combining various techniques of fusing, raking, temperature manipulation, slumping, his pieces often produce a flow that results in a unique designed to capture light and color beautifully. Phil's glass pieces are known for their distinctive and colorful qualities, including one-of-a-kind wall hangings, sculptures, plates, bowls, and seasonal artwork.

Phil will be demonstrating his approach to glass fusing and designing his sculpture pieces.

Meetings are held at the Franklin Senior Center, 10 Daniel McCahill St., Franklin, MA, with a business meeting starting at 6:45 PM, refreshments and socialization starts at 6:30 PM, the monthly demonstration/workshop starts at ~7 PM  and runs until ~9 PM. As always, our meetings are free and open to the public.

New England Legends Presents Zombie Prom 2024: A Night of Dancing with the Dead for a Worthy Cause

New England Legends, the creators of the popular New England Legends podcast, are thrilled to announce the return of their much-anticipated Zombie Prom fundraiser on Saturday, February 17th, 2024 at 7pm. The ghoulishly delightful event will take place at the DoubleTree Hotel in Milford, Massachusetts, promising attendees an unforgettable night of dancing, games, raffle prizes, and a pizza party—all in the spirit of raising funds for a charitable cause.

 

Hosted by Jeff Belanger and Ray Auger, the minds behind the New England Legends podcast, the Zombie Prom has become a cherished alternative celebration for those looking to escape the clichés of Valentine's Day. Uniting undead enthusiasts and those with a taste for the macabre, this event offers a unique, entertaining and light-hearted experience for attendees to revel in the delight of the unconventional.

A Night of Fun and Philanthropy:

The Zombie Prom is not just about dancing with the dead; it's also about giving back to the community. This year's fundraising recipient is the Community Harvest Project, a non-profit farm based in Grafton, MA. The organization engages volunteers to grow fruits and vegetables for hunger relief, working towards the vision of creating connected communities that ensure access to healthy food for all.

 

Dress Your Worst or Be a "Victim":

Attendees are encouraged to embrace the spirit of the night by dressing in their most dreadful attire or by coming as "victims" without costumes. The more creative and gruesome, the better!  Best costumes will be crowned King and Queen of the Undead!

"America is struggling with several crises, most notably a radical, antidemocratic leader and movement controlling one of its major political parties. America’s journalism industry is also in crisis: Its traditional funding sources are drying up, leading to mass layoffs.

Right now, these crises aren’t that connected. But they should be. The journalism industry should reorganize itself to focus squarely on America’s crises, both to help the country and give itself a clear mission and purpose that could make it more financially viable in the long run. We need more reporters reading environmental impact studies and school-improvement plans, with salaries funded by readers who are essentially giving a tithe to democracy. And perhaps fewer journalists in football stadiums."

We focus on the mission here with Franklin.News. I "follow the money" focusing or reporting on the School Committee, Finance Committee, and Town Council with as many of their subcommittee meetings as practical. We also look at what these funds provide us for the quality of life here in Franklin, MA. 

Meanwhile the TV team produces live broadcasts of other Town meetings, high school sports, music programs, etc. for our 3 cable channels on both Comcast and Verizon. These programs also usually end up on the corresponding YouTube channels.

The "radio gang" explores blues, politics, mental health, jazz, wine, and other current and valuable topics for radio broadcast or podcast (radio on demand).

So Franklin, MA residents end up with

• video of meetings, high school sports, and other Town events
• audio of meetings, interviews, etc.
• the digital text with citizen journalism attempting to keep you informed on what matters here in Franklin

Game I: Ed Burns Hockey Tournament

1st period Recap: Shots - Franklin (II) Hingham (IO)

High tempo game off the drop of the puck Lampasona, Paterson & McEvoy pushing pace, followed by Balducci, Wernig & Daley following suit & Hager, Langevin & Quinn flying are creating the tempo But @ 4mln into the game Hingham would strike first A few minutes later Franklin takes a roughing penalty @ 9:54, this one would sting as the boys quickly go down 2-0. Another Franklin penalty comes minutes later @ 7:54 for high sticking However the boys had other plans this time when Marchand makes a big hit along the boards causing a Hingham forward to send the puck deep into Hingham's zone where Paterson wins foot race to puck & snaps a quick shot that deflects to Lampasona in the slot who picks the top right corner for

the shorty bringing Franklin within I. Next shift, w/ seconds left on the PK, Hingham turns over in the neutral zone where Langevin Wins another foot race & takes off into the zone & at the top of the circle rips a snipe top right corner to tie it up. Period closes out 2-2 w/ O'Connor seeing IO shots and coming up with some big saves.

2nd Period Recap: Shots - Franklin (7) Hingham (IO)

Again, pace of pay is fast & the boys have settled in. Daley & Wernigget a couple quick chances early in the period. @ 11:02 Paterson makes a beauty of an outlet pass from deep in the zone to McEvoy on far blue line who makes a slippery move around the defenseman & then opens up the goalie to slide it 5-hole for the goal putting Franklin up I! @ 7:48 Franklin finds themselves back on the PK but again a great forecheck by Daley & Balducci followed by McEwzn,' & Paterson coupled w/ strong blue line play by Marchand, Arienti, Toli & Harrington they kill off the penalty. Period ends fast With some great back &  forth hockey. O'Connor serves up the donut seeing another IO shots in the period & is making a lot of big saves. 

3rd Period Recap: Shots - Franklin (8) Hingham (9)

With 15 miles to go boys are picking up the pace & controlling tempo Balducci sets up Daley for a one timer but Hingham goalie makes an amazing save, same shift Dalev rings the post & the boys keeping the Hingham defense on their heels. And @ 11:02 McEwy wins a battle on the boards hitting Lampasona coming up the ice who dishes to Paterson at the red line where he slides by 2 defenders into the slot & rips one home putting Franklin up 2. But very next shift Hingham would bring it back within w/ 9:30 to play. @ 5:42 Marchand blocks a shot & gets It to McEvcn,' who takes off down the right side thru 2 players at the blue line & backhand saucers it to Paterson in the slot who returns the favor to McEvoy who buries it putting Franklin up by 2. With 4:33 to go in game Langevin draws a Hingham interference penalty & I

minute into the penalty Marchand slides it to Lampasona at the point and sends a missile to the back of the net putting Franklin up by 3. Hingham would get one back, but the game would end Franklin 6 Hingham 4.
