Franklin School for the Performing Arts Slates Summer Programs for Children and Teens

Franklin School for the Performing Arts (FSPA) announces a summer session of theater programs, ballet intensives, one-week camps, voice and instrumental lessons, and dance classes in ballet, jazz, tap and contemporary. The summer session runs from July 2 to August 24, with registration beginning March 5.

FSPA Summer Theater provides the opportunity for hands-on immersion in a Broadway Boot Camp, cabaret show, play or musical theater production, with enrollment for one to five weeks. The Cabaret week (July 23-27) focuses on repertoire choices, song interpretation and presentation, and concludes with a cabaret style revue at THE BLACK BOX theater in downtown Franklin.

The three-day Broadway Boot Camp (July 30-August 1) brings Broadway headliners to FSPA for song and dance master classes and coaching on individual performance skills. A weeklong drama program (August 20-24) presents a straight play, while a two-week musical theater program (August 6-17) stages a major book musical at THE BLACK BOX.

Franklin Pop Warner Little Scholars announced

Good news to share via the Franklin Area Network:

"I wanted to share the recent release of the 2018 Pop Warner Little Scholars. These scholars are being recognized for academic excellence and Franklin has 38 scholars this year, more than any other district in the Hockomock league.

These students are 6-8th graders that must first qualify with a excellent GPA to submit an application where they then have to provide community service and extra circular activity information. I think it speaks so highly of the great job Franklin schools are doing to provide excellence in academics while also producing well rounded students.

These scholars will be honored at an awards banquets in March at Gillette Stadium hosted by the National Pop Warner Organization. "

You can find more about the event here: http://www.newenglandpopwarner.com/Default.aspx?tabid=2069181

"The messages are sure to put a smile on any face"

From the Milford Daily News, articles of interest for Franklin:

"The importance of a random act of kindness is not lost to the youth of Franklin.
Nine-hundred felt, paper, and foam hearts were strung up last week with clotheslines and pins, dangling from tree to tree at the Franklin Town Common to commemorate both Valentine’s Day and simple, everyday niceties.
Two hearts are weaved or glued together to create a pocket in the middle. Each heart-pocket contains a note describing a random act of kindness performed by a Franklin student.
Messages about helping friends build snowmen and aiding with school work are stuffed into the small pockets that are laced around the park and gazebo."

FHS boys basketball top Tech Boston, take Harvey Nasuti Winter Classic title

Via HockomockSports and Twitter we share the results of the FHS sports action on Monday, Feb 19, 2018

Boys Hockey = Franklin, 3 vs. LaSalle Academy, 4 – Final

Boys Basketball = Franklin, 76 vs. Tech Boston, 67 – Final

Ryan Lanigan, founder and Editor-in-Chief of HockomockSports.com, provides the game recap:

"Coming off a state finals appearance a year ago, Franklin loaded its schedule with tough opponents in hopes of preparing for another deep playoff run.
After beating D1 South hopeful New Bedford on Sunday, the Panthers matched up with the state’s top-ranked team, Tech Boston, in the championship game of the Harvey Nasuti Winter Classic.
Although the flow of the game was hindered by nearly 50 foul calls, the Panthers made the runs at the right times and limited the Bears in transition, resulting in a 76-67 win.
“We feel like we’re one of the best teams in the state,” said Franklin coach CJ Neely. “We’re not worried about who’s one or two or stuff like that. We talk about our goals and taking it one step at a time. This was our next goal [to win this tournament] and Tech Boston happened to the be the top-ranked team. They’re a very good team. We like that we can compete there and show what we’re made of, especially on the defensive side of the ball I think we did a great job able to slow them down some.”

Ashley Loomis selected as HockomockSports.com Player of the Week

"Franklin senior Ashley Loomis has been selected as the HockomockSports.com Player of the Week, presented by Morse Insurance, for Feb. 11 through Feb. 17. Loomis is the 20th player selected for the 2017-18 school year and 10th player chosen during the winter season.
Loomis capped her incredible career in the pool with two state titles and two state records at this past weekend’s swimming championships at Boston University. After making it four sectional titles in four years in both the 200-yard and 500-yard freestyle the week before (and winning both races in convincing fashion at the Hockomock Championships), Loomis added to her resume with a third straight state title in the 200-free and fourth straight in the 500-free, both in record-breaking fashion.
“Having Ashley as a part of Franklin swimming has been an amazing journey; truly a significantly valuable learning experience for athletes and coaches alike,” said Franklin coach Jess Pridham. “I have watched her grow and mature as both an athlete and as a person. She has always maintained a high level of humility, dignity, and grace through all of her success as well as encouraging and supporting her teammates in their endeavors as well."

In the News: Franklin family tries to recover; Cultural Council looking for artists; new attempt to eliminate home heating assistance

From the Milford Daily News, articles of interest for Franklin:

"When Franklin resident Joseph Cooper took a break from watching TV to grab a late-night snack on Saturday, Feb. 3, he returned to the basement of his home on Warwick Road to hear a popping sound coming from the connected garage.
“It’s happened before where a squirrel would get into the garage and knock everything over,” he said. “But when I opened the door there was already a good fire going inside.”
He said the smoke detectors were going off in the garage, but because the door was steel and the alarms weren’t connected to the rest of the house, he couldn’t hear them.
“I tried to fight it a little bit, screaming to my daughters to get shoes and coats and get out,” he said."

"The Trump administration is once again calling for the complete elimination of a heating assistance program that helps to keep the homes of low-income families warm. And once again, program supporters are vowing to fight it.
The administration is using the same arguments from a year ago when it tried to abolish the program, saying it’s rife with fraud and that no one would be left freezing if the program goes away.
“These arguments are very misleading and wrong,” said Mark Wolfe, director of the National Energy Assistance Directors’ Association in Washington, D.C.
The program, known as LIHEAP — Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program — helps families pay their heating bills primarily in the form of a grant that’s sent directly to utility companies or heating fuel vendors."

Register O'Donnell Promotes Registry of Deeds Internet Research

Register O'Donnell Promotes Registry of Deeds Internet Research

Norfolk County Register of Deeds William P. O'Donnell today reminded consumers that you don't have to spend time and money driving to the Registry to view land records since they are available online via the Registry's internet-based document research system at www.norfolkdeeds.org.

"A recent review of online traffic interacting with our website, done through Google Analytics, indicates our most popular feature is providing an online research capability for users to access all our online land documents. Consumers can see up to 6,000,000 scanned land document images dating back to the founding of Norfolk County in 1793. We are bringing the Registry records into people's homes and businesses.

"Providing secure, accurate and accessible land record information, coupled with our on-site customer service center, is a core objective of the Norfolk County Registry of Deeds," said Register O'Donnell.

Elaborating on the Registry's research capabilities, O'Donnell said, "Users are able to research land record information by multiple options, including the name of the property owner and property address. Members of the public can access our internet-based document research system for many endeavors such as, to determine property ownership, to research land titles, to review land plans (only plans which are recorded at the Registry) and finally to confirm that documents affecting a person's property - such as mortgage discharges - have been recorded."

The Registry's website also provides information on how to obtain copies of land documents. The Registry copy charges are $1.00 per page, plus an additional $1.00 per document for postage.

In conclusion, O'Donnell stated, "Providing first-class customer service is a crucial focus we bring to our work at the Registry of Deeds each and every day. Norfolk County residents and businesses deserve a Registry of Deeds that provides them with access to land record information in an easily accessible and consumer friendly manner. The Registry website www.norfolkdeeds.org does that by bringing the Registry records into your homes and businesses."

To learn more about these and other Registry of Deeds events and initiatives, like us at facebook.com/NorfolkDeeds or follow us on twitter.com/NorfolkDeeds and instagram.com/NorfolkDeeds.

The Norfolk County Registry of Deeds is located at 649 High Street, Dedham. The Registry is a resource for homeowners, title examiners, mortgage lenders, municipalities and others with a need for secure, accurate, accessible land record information. All land record research information can be found on the Registry's website at www.norfolkdeeds.org. Residents in need of assistance can contact the Registry of Deeds Customer Service Center at (781) 461-6101, or email us at registerodonnell@norfolkdeeds.org.
