What does Groucho Marx, Fleetwood Mac and Arlo Guthrie have in common?

While radio stations periodically run a weekend with their top all time hits, the Library of Congress also keeps a recording of what they determine to be the key music. 25 pieces were added to their collection this year and there should be something for everyone.

In the Sherlock household, Arlo Guthrie's "Alice's Restaurant Massacree" is a Thanksgiving tradition.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m57gzA2JCcM

More about this year's additions can be found on the Library of Congress page

The Library is also looking for nominations for what to add this year. The nomination form and details on the process can be found here

Tri-County Regional Celebrates its Fortieth Year

It's been forty years since Tri-County Regional Vocational Technical High School opened its doors to students seeking a vocational education in Franklin, Massachusetts. In 1977, students were seeking vocations in programs still offered today including automotive technology, carpentry, electrical wiring technology, cosmetology, plumbing and graphics to name a few. Since then, those programs have increased to include dental assisting, engineering technology, computer information systems, and legal and protective services.

Today, Tri-County serves over 1000 students from eleven towns and offers adult education for all interests including postsecondary programs, various licensing and certification courses, or offerings for people just looking to have fun. The high school is looking forward to celebrating the anniversary with alumni, students, staff, as well as business and community members.

"This is a year to celebrate Tri-County," said Stephen Dockray, Superintendent. "I'd like to personally invite alumni, retirees, current faculty, parents and friends and members of the community to join us to reminisce with old acquaintances or make new ones, while celebrating this memorable night. Come and visit the school, see the vocational shops, and celebrate everything that is amazing at Tri-County."

The 40 Year Celebration and Benefit is scheduled for Saturday night, April 7, 2018 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at the high school. The suggested donation is $75.00 per person. Part of the donation includes a benefit component. Any proceeds will go to the Tri-County Education Foundation, a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization dedicated to enriching and enhancing educational opportunities for students. For example, providing funds for student competition travel.

"We hope to see you on April 7th for the celebration and the opportunity to give back to our students," said Dockray.

"usher in a new era of collaborative leadership in the Senate"

From the Milford Daily News, articles of interest for Franklin:

"Ashland Democrat Sen. Karen Spilka, the lead budget writer for the Senate, has emerged from a crowded but fluid field of Democrats interested in becoming the next Senate president to seize the mantle a full nine months before senators were expected to choose their next leader.
Spilka, the chairman of the Senate Ways and Means Committee, has the support of more than 25 of her current colleagues, according to a source close to the senator.
One of those Democratic supporters is Sen. Sal DiDomenico, an assistant majority leader form Everett who was one of Spilka’s main rivals for the president. The two senators met on Wednesday, and DiDomenico agreed to support Spilka and ask his own supporters to back her candidacy as well.
“I’m deeply honored by the support I’ve received from my fellow Senators. I look forward to working collaboratively with Senate President (Harriette) Chandler and my Democratic and Republican colleagues to ensure a smooth transition,” Spilka said in a statement."
