Boys Soccer = Franklin, 4 @ Canton, 2 – Final
– Canton pulled within one goal early in the second half but Franklin tacked on an insurance goal with just over 10 minutes to play to secure a crucial two points on the road. The Panthers needed less than eight minutes to find the back of the net three times, stunning the hosts with an early onslaught. Senior Jason Proenca scored a brace inside the opening seven minutes, first nodding in a corner from junior Zach O’Mahony O’Sullivan in the fifth minute, and then burying a low cross from classmate Josh Rappa in the seventh minute. A timeout didn’t stop Franklin’s offense, it only delayed it. The Panthers found a third just seconds into the ninth minute as Proenca’s low cross was met at the far post by junior Will McAuley. Canton climbed back into the game with a brace from senior forward Vlad Francoeur, who converted a penalty kick (drawn by Teddy Cappucci) in the 19th minute, and then flashed a header in off a corner from Luke Erickson in the 52nd minute. The game stayed 3-2 until the 70th minute when Jake Boyd one-timed a cross from Jax Poverman to help secure the two points.
Girls Soccer = Canton, 1 @ Franklin, 7 – Final
– Franklin put together arguably its most complete game of the season to hand Canton its first league loss and move into first place alone atop the Kelley-Rex division. Phoebe Cuneo recorded a hat trick (her fourth and fifth goals in the last two days). The Panthers dominated from the opening whistle. Morgan Lovell, who had four points on Wednesday night, crossed for Cuneo to flick in the first goal after just three minutes. After a series of chances, the lead was doubled midway through the half when Lovell sent a through ball for Gwen Holland to chase. Holland won a challenge with the sliding keeper just inside the box and then slotted into the open net. Cuneo scored twice in three minutes to break the game open. First, she ran onto a through ball from Sophia Horton and picked the bottom far corner. Then Cuneo got a piece of Cassidy Carmignani’s long free kick and the ball trickled across the line for a 4-0 lead. Lovell would wrap up the first half with a shot from a tight angle. In the second half, Carmignani’s corner picked out Holland for a first-time finish. Canton got a consolation goal in the 60th minute. Alyssa Wong played the ball into the feet of Georgia Campbell, who deftly touched the ball past her marker and then finished. Franklin would get the goal back with 13 minutes to play. Grace Marinella latched onto a bouncing ball in the box after a corner and drilled in Franklin’s seventh.
Field Hockey = Franklin, 3 @ King Philip, 0 – Final
– Franklin earned a hard-fought win over King Philip in a matchup between the Kelley-Rex division’s top-ranked teams. After withstanding a lot of pressure from KP throughout the first half, the Panthers broke through with five minutes left in the first half when Addi Weiss scored off a pass from Amelia Manning. Clara Blongastainer doubled the lead with just 21 seconds left in the third quarter on an assist from Ava Lucenta, and Weiss added her second goal just under four minutes into the fourth, finishing off a feed from Blongastainer. Devon Barry made six saves for the shutout, Jossie Camp had a standout performance defensively, and Cade Taccini had a great two-way game in the midfield, helping the Panthers’ defense while also transitioning the visitors into offense. King Philip created multiple scoring chances, finishing with eight shots on goal and six corners. Lauren Griffin made seven saves in net for the Warriors.
Volleyball = Franklin, 3 @ King Philip, 2 – Final
– Franklin pulled out a thrilling five-set win on the road at King Philip (18-25, 25-18, 25-20, 19-25, 15-12). In a back-and-forth final set, the Panthers won five of the last six points to seal the victory, getting two key kills from Makayla Kuykendall before Olivia Alberti finished it off with the match-clinching point. Kuykendall led Franklin with 17 kills and 12 digs, while Emerson Delleo added 11 kills and 13 digs, and Alberti chipped in six kills and three blocks. Phoebe O’Connor ran the offense with 40 assists, and Emma Cunningham anchored the defense with 22 digs. For King Philip, senior Cece Kilroy led the way with 21 kills and 22 digs. Senior captain Shayne Dugan and sophomore Molly Sweeney each had eight kills, while sophomore Charlotte Bailey served up five aces.
