MetroWest Visitors Bureau Presents 9th Annual MetroFest - June 11

The MetroWest Visitors Bureau welcomes all to attend the 9th annual MetroFest on Saturday, June 11, 2022. The event will be held at the Bowditch Athletic and Cultural Complex, 475 Union Ave, Framingham, MA from 11:00am to 4:00pm. 2022 marks our return to an in-person festival following two virtual events during the pandemic years as “MetroFest: At Home Edition!”

This event is made possible each year thanks to our many sponsors and volunteers. With their help, this event is again free admission for the family-friendly event, which will offer food, arts, exhibitors, music, classic cars, craft beverage tastings, and much more.

Throughout the day, you will be able to enjoy a variety of music and entertainment on two stages, with a little something for everyone. Enjoy performances by returning groups The Reminisants with Oldies, Eguie Castrillo and his Orchestra, Latin percussion, and new in 2022 The Zajac Family Band featuring your favorite classic rock and more.

MetroFest 2022 will have a wide variety of fun activities for all ages to enjoy with more than 75 crafters, artisans and exhibitors. Family-friendly activities will include Touch-A-Truck, magic shows, community stage performers, classic cars and lawn games. Habitat for Humanity returns with their playhouse building area. New this year is a remote-controlled racing car track, and the Framingham Public Library’s Bookmobile.

MetroFest is again excited to showcase a variety of offerings from MetroWest region: the Colonial Curling Association, bounce houses and inflato obstacle course in Kids Town; and a tasting tent featuring Framingham’s Jack’s Abby Craft Lagers and Natick’s Lookout Farm Brewing & Cider Co.

“MetroFest unites residents, visitors, and businesses together from the MetroWest area and is the largest arts and culture event of its kind in the region,” says Erin Lynch, Executive Director of the MetroWest Visitors Bureau.  This is the 9th year for MetroFest and we are excited to continue to showcase the tremendous assets across this region. There is so much to do and see!  The MetroWest region possesses such amazing cultural diversity and that is what we highlight at MetroFest--from the food and music to activities, community entertainment, tastings of the region’s locally produced beer and hard cider, businesses and activities.  There is something for everyone and this is a family friendly, FREE event.  Come one, come all, and relish in the richness of the region.”

*The 9th Annual MetroFest is made possible through generous sponsorships from Avidia Bank, MetroWest Medical Center, Mass Bay Community College, Middlesex Savings Bank, Town of Franklin, Natick Center Cultural District, City of Framingham, Framingham Parks & Recreation, and the Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism and our media partner MyFM101.3.

Is there a film festival at FHS? Yes, this Thursday evening!

"Do you want to attend a real film festival held right here at FHS? Well, you’re in luck! On Thursday May 19th, the annual festival makes a return. The Indian Diwali Festival was celebrated by around 400 people on Saturday afternoon. 4th District Congressman Jake Auchincloss along with District Director Dana Hanson joined the festivities at America's First Public Library.

The significance of the Indian Festival of Lights Diwali is victory of Good over Evil.

The program started with prayer and followed by colorful Bollywood Dances and Indian traditional kid dances.

Yummy sweets and brunch boxes were served for Vegetarians and Non-Vegetarians.

Harvest Festival - a successful sunny day in Franklin (photo essay)

There were hundreds, maybe thousands, of folks walking downtown, along Main St, along Depot St, enjoying music at the Dean Ave corner (Dancin' on Dean), along the Rockland Trust parking lot, into THE BLACK BOX parking lot, crossing West Central St to the Historical Museum. How do you count that kind of crowd? Forget about counting, just enjoy it!

October events at the Franklin Historical Museum

The museum is happy to once again be participating in the annual Harvest Festival, Saturday, October 2. The museum will have a display of photographs depicting farms, farm life, animals, gardens and harvesting. The series of photographs from early 20th century Franklin, is from the private collection of Franklin photographer Nathan Wales’ images. The museum is also happy to be host vintage cars from the local car club, the Red Devils. We will serve apple cider and cookies on the porch. The Friends of the Franklin Historical Museum will have a table out front selling Christmas Ornaments from the gift shop. We look forward to you stopping by!

We’re very excited to have author Stephen Puleo return for our Second Sunday Speaker Series on October 10. Steve’s recently released book, Voyage of Mercy will be the topic of his presentation. Thousands of ships left Ireland during the potato famine in the late 1840s, transporting the starving and destitute away from their homeland. The first to sail in the other direction was the USS Jamestown, a converted warship stripped of its guns and committed to the peaceful delivery of food, clothing, and supplies.  The USS Jamestown, the Irish famine, and the remarkable story of America’s first humanitarian mission. Join us for this compelling presentation. Doors open at 1:00PM. Presentation to start by 1:15PM. This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Franklin Historical Museum.

The museum is open Thursday evenings 5 PM - 7 PM; Saturdays 10 AM - 1 PM and Sundays 1 PM - 4 PM. Visit our giftshop for fun and unique Franklin gift items. We are wheelchair accessible and admission is always free. Franklin Historical Museum, 80 West Central Street.

It has been a long time since you heard from us at OCC Coffeehouse – since the start of the COBID pandemic in February or March 2020.  Times have been difficult, but we are still here.  The future has begun to look much brighter in many respects, and you will be hearing more in the near future.

In the meantime, here is your invitation to a wonderful festival in Wrentham that will be well worth going to this afternoon, Saturday, September 18, from 3:30 until 8 PM at White Barn Farm in Wrentham.

Be sure to let them know that you heard about it from Ken Graves at OCC Coffeehouse, and let me know how you like it.  I may very well see you there.

The Festival will be held at White Barn Farm, 458 South Street, Wrentham, MA.  Tickets are $15 no matter how long you want to stay.

Music features Billy Wylder, Hawthorn, and DJ Rutabaga!
