Good news for Medway on the power plant:
Exelon has made its first payment of $278,000 to the town per the Host Community Agreement, for technical and legal consultants, a water system analysis, a firefighting vehicle and emergency preparedness training as the company seeks to expand its Summer Street facility.
At Monday’s Board of Selectmen meeting, Town Administrator Michael Boynton briefed selectmen on the payment, which he called the “first phase of funding” relative to the agreement signed by the board last month.Continue reading the article online here (subscription maybe required)

Personnel at the town's schools are working to ensure the safety of local students, the School Committee was told in a presentation.
The committee at its meeting last week heard a report from the district superintendent, a police officer and a consultant on efforts to shore up school security.

The town elected a new Town Council and its first new town clerk in decades at its election Tuesday.
Franklin had contested races for the council, the town clerk's position, the Board of Health and the School Committee on the ballot. A sum of 3,844 of the town's nearly 22,000 registered voters came out for the election.Continue reading the article online here (subscription maybe required)

Franklin Newcomers & Friends 42nd Annual Craft Fair - Nov 14th
In it's 42nd year, the Franklin Newcomers and Friends Club Annual Craft Fair is coming up!! It's a perfect opportunity to shop for the upcoming Holidays, Birthdays or any Special Occasion . . . or just for yourself!
We host 70+ crafters who make a wide range of items. The event is a fundraiser with money going back to our local community. Last year we gave $5,000 to eight local non-profit organizations.
Franklin Newcomers and Friends
We'll be collecting non-perishable food items for the Franklin Food Pantry too! Admission is $3 per person over 12 years old.
The Franklin Newcomers and Friends Craft Fair will be held on Saturday, November 14th. It will be located at Tri-Country Regional Vocational Technical High School, 147 Pond Street in Franklin.
The event runs from 9 am to 3 pm. There will be a baked goods table, a 50/50 raffle, as well as a raffle for items donated by the crafters. Please join us!
Try Hockey for Free Day - Sat, Nov 7th

On Sat. Nov. 7 @ 1:00 PM in Franklin at Veterans Arena (9 Panther Way), FYHA is holding a Try Hockey For Free Day as we participate in USA Hockey's Come Play Hockey Month.
All participants are required to have a minimum of a helmet (of any type), skates (rentals available) and gloves (of any type).

Franklin Election Results - Nov 3, 2015
The full set of results for today's Election in Franklin. 3,844 voters turned out for today's vote approx. 17% of those registered.
** Burr took the Town Clerk over Padula-O'Neill by 1113 to 1081. A recount has verbally been requested.
** For School Committee, the successful candidates were
** For Board of Health, the two incumbents (Brunelli and Rinaldi) maintained their positions.
** For Town Council, the following were successful
** The one ballot question passed by a vote of 2701 (Yes) to 650 (No).

Vote today at Franklin High School from 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM
Today is the day. By now, you, the Franklin voter, should have enough information to make your voting decision based upon what has been shared about the individual candidates here and by the Milford Daily News.
With my three questions, I wanted to provide some depth to the candidate. Many of the issues are not easy yes/no answers. The issues are usually more nuanced. Hence I think we should know more about where the candidates are coming from rather than their answer on a specific issue. The answer on the issue today is not an indicator of their answer on a different issue tomorrow. Knowing more about the candidate as a person, their life here in Franklin, etc. I believe is important.
For example, that a Board of Health candidate actually has either a public health certification or nursing degree should provide some insights over someone who does not have that background.
That some candidates tout their openness and yet say definitively they’ll do something tells me that are not really that ‘open’ minded as they claim to be.
So in preparation for Tuesday, review the interviews that have been shared.
Make up your mind, and get out to vote.
All voters (no matter what precinct you are in) are served by the one location at Franklin High School.
You get to cast seven votes for the School Committee and nine votes for the Town Council. You have a small choice for School Committee (one is left standing in this round of musical chairs). You have a bigger choice for the Town Council where 5 are left standing.
I have heard many claim that they will only vote for 3 or 4 but given the information that has been shared you should be able to vote for a full slate for both the School Committee and Town Council. Doing anything less than casting your full set of votes will allow someone else to get in that you may come to regret.
