Live burn training includes elected officials

"The Franklin Fire Dept conducted a series of live burn training exercises today, joined by @RepAuchincloss & @jeffroy. They suited up to enter the structure fire, with the guidance & direction of @FranklinMAfire. These trainings go beyond simulation, putting firefighters in...
...real (yet controlled) situations, experiencing the heat, smoke, and mobility factors that occur in a live fire. We thank our representatives for joining us today and extend our thanks to
@MilfordFire2140 for the use of their facility! "

Franklin Police participate in 'Fair and Impartial Policing' training

"Last week the Franklin Police Department provided Fair and Impartial Policing training to all of our officers. Fair and Impartial Policing uses modern science to train police officers on implicit bias and gives them the tools they need to reduce and manage bias.
The recent police reform bill passed by the Commonwealth speaks to eventually providing this type of training for officers. We felt it was a priority now, and brought the training to our staff.
The training was intensive, and conducted by
Fair & Impartial Policing
.
A news story on the same training was done in another part of the country last year, and provides information on what the class was about. https://wxow.com/.../surrounding-law-enforcement.../... "

Boston Globe: "Becker College to close this spring as pandemic deals final blow, officials say"

"Becker College, a small, private liberal arts school in Worcester, will close after the end of this school year, the board of trustees announced Monday.

The school, best known for its veterinary, nursing, and video game design programs, has struggled financially for years and trustees said the COVID-19 pandemic, which hurt enrollment and brought added costs, dealt the final blow.

“Ultimately, the impacts of COVID-19 turned what was a very challenging situation into an unsustainable situation,” President Nancy P. Crimmin said in a statement from the school, which had said it was on the brink of closure earlier this month."

Behind on your rent and worried about eviction?

Consumer Alerts from the Federal Trade Commission

by Sana Chriss - Attorney, Division of Consumer & Business Education, FTC

Lots of people are having difficulty paying their rent due to the pandemic. But today, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) released an eviction moratorium order. It protects people from being evicted for not paying their rent if they complete a declaration form and give it to their landlord. This protection lasts until June 30, 2021.

Below are the four working groups that will be working together on this event. Each group will be responsible for a part of this event.

alongside LIsa Piana to match the artists with the local businesses.

Entertainment and Performance Group  FCDC Members Jamie Barrett, Pandora Carlucci, Jamie Barrett Hopefully all of the grant recipients associated with the
seven different performing groups will work with this group to determine the needs and performance locations for each of the performing ensembles.

Kickoff Reception Group FCDC Member Roberta Trahan This group will work with Raye Lynn Mercer and TBB to plan this kickoff reception which will take place at TBB.

Event Marketing Group FCDC Members John LoPresti, Evan Chelman This group will work with FCD partners to market the June 11th - 13th Franklin ArtWALK Celebration.

It is our hope that many different Cultural District Partners will join one of these working groups.

FM #502 - Franklin Matters Q&A - 03/18/21 (audio)

FM #502 = This is the Franklin Matters radio show, number 502 in the series.

This session of the radio show shares the Franklin Matters Q&A session held by the Senior Center held Thursday, Mar 18, 2021.
The session was conducted virtually via Zoom conference bridge to adhere to the ‘social distancing’ requirements of this pandemic period.

I do use a brief presentation deck to open the session (link below). A couple of recent photos and screen captures of the webpages and the “watch list” are among the key items to share and open the discussion. After that, we are there to answer your questions.

Among the topics we discussed in this session;  my ‘watch list’ for 2021 including vaccine availability, the School Committee budget, Town budget cycle, after Davis Thayer - the next step for the School Committee is developing the long range ‘master plan’ for the school district.

The recording runs just about 45 minutes so let’s listen in. Audio file = https://player.captivate.fm/episode/b19835d0-f25e-46fc-9189-330f02e6f7ad
