Recap: Board of Health working unsafe building issues, part of State process for vaccine distribution, expanding awareness of health issues (audio)

Quick recap:
  • Meeting opened with one member remote, all other Board of Health and Health Dept personnel in the 3rd floor training room of the Municipal Bldg.
  • Demolition permit pulled for unsafe house at 27 Winter St that day. Continuing to monitor
  • Discussion of unsafe house at 71 North Park, attorney and one side of the two owners for this unique situation present. House hit by lightning and unrepaired as of yet as the owners work through legal issues around the property (housing ownership not divided in 'normal' manner). To be monitored monthly to determine progress towards resolution
  • Nurse has completed registration of Town with State for vaccine distribution, a new clinic for COVID-19 vaccine for youth being scheduled
  • Updated COVID-19 case information on Health Dept page (link below)
  • Expansion of health info via (1) alerts (colorectal cancer most recent one) and (2) a new podcast episode recorded on Wednesday for The Topic; this time on music therapy. Recording should be available soon
My notes were captured via Twitter and summarized in this ThreadReader PDF

"The benefits of this investment will not be confined to just offshore wind"

From the Boston Globe - an editorial written by: Ronald J. Mariano, who represents the Third Norfolk District, is speaker of the Massachusetts House of Representatives. Jeffrey N. Roy represents the 10th Norfolk District and is House chair of the Legislature’s Joint Committee on Telecommunications, Utilities, and Energy.

"In November, voters in Maine approved a ballot measure that blocks plans to develop a transmission line to deliver hydroelectric power from Canada to Massachusetts and the rest of the region.
Two months after that vote, Massachusetts was hit by a powerful “bomb cyclone” that brought 70-mile-per-hour gusts, more than 30 inches of snow, mass power outages, and school and business closures. It ranked among the top 10 storms with the highest snowfalls to hit the Boston area since the National Weather Service began keeping such records in the late 1800s — seven of which have occurred just within the last two decades.
These two events, occurring in short succession, demonstrate both the perils of climate change and just how fragile that state’s existing plans are to combat it."

How to use #FranklinCAN(fill in the blank)

Franklin is a caring community. It has been known to come out, to show up, to support when needed. Time, and time again.

Members of the Franklin Area Nonprofit Network (FANN) need to take advantage of this to accomplish what each organization is focused on. The FANN will help in that effort.

#Franklin community action now (CAN) is a simple way for all nonprofits to help each other spread the work on each other's fund raising efforts, events, etc.

  1. When community action is needed, your organization can plan accordingly. Devise whatever is required for fund raising, collection, pick up, etc.
  2. As you communicate to your followers, send the event, or action to the FANN. We'll put it on the calendar
  3. As you create your social media campaign, figure out how to add #FranklinCAN (fillin the blanks) to your social posts. What (fill in the blank) makes sense for this event, action, etc for you/your organization
  4. Mark your social media communications with the hashtag #FranklinCAN(fill in the blank)
  5. FANN members can set up a Google alert for #FranklinCAN to find out what is happening
  6. The FANN and other members can share that hashtag to help spread the word on your effort

So easy!

You do what you need to do and with the #FranklinCAN(fill in the blank) hashtag, the FANN can help spread the word to make your event or effort more successful.

Some examples might be

#FranklinCANpickup

#FranklinCANfundraise

#FranklinCANsupport
