Girls Soccer = Franklin, 3 @ Attleboro, 5 – Final
- Attleboro rallied from two goals down in the final 13 minutes to secure dramatic win over Franklin on the night that the Bombardiers honor the Olivia Knighton Foundation. Franklin almost opened the scoring early in the match, but Kennedy Samuel marked her return after two games out by clearing the ball off the line. Late in the first half, the Panthers, who were playing their second game in as many nights, broke the deadlock with a back post header off a free kick. The visitors doubled the lead in the 53rd minute, but three minutes later Attleboro got on the board. Mia Cooper fed Jordyn Riley making a run down the right side of the box and she found the far post. Franklin added a spectacular third in the 63rd minute, as Morgan Lovell stole the ball, cut around an Attleboro defender, and picked the top corner. It seemed like the Panthers were on their way to an important division win, but Attleboro showed resiliency on an emotional evening. Tatum O’Brien got the Bombardiers back within one in the 67th minute and then Madison Dennehy got on the end of freshman Yvette Fontaine’s cross at the near post and flicked in the equalizer. Samuel, who played at both ends of the pitch for the Bombardiers, popped up with the winner by running onto a through ball from Riley. In the 76th minute, O’Brien scored a terrific solo goal, weaving through the Franklin defense, to put the Bombardiers up 5-3. Attleboro coach Steve Santos said, “We didn’t quit and we battled hard.” He praised the team’s defense, including Colie McGilvray, Sofia Sprovieri, Jamie Riley, Samuel, and goalie Ciara O’Driscoll
