“We don’t shut down during the summer”

Milford Daily News reports on the activities on campus during the summer for schools like Framingham State and Dean College.
“The summer’s a busy time on college campuses,” said Dave Drucker, dean of students at Franklin’s Dean College.
At Dean, freshman orientations begin in June. The college holds four separate sessions for students and parents.
“We really orientate our students to what life is going to be like at Dean,” Drucker said. “We work very closely with the families about what that transition will be like for students. We try to forge a partnership to work with them through the first year to commencement.”

One change Dean made on their campus this summer was the addition of wrought iron fencing in places where it didn't already exist to complete the look.

In the News: Back to school

Milford Daily News does an interesting round up of the area school districts and what changes occurred during the summer.
School districts in MetroWest and the Milford area opened classes for the school year last week or will begin this week after Labor Day. In many districts, the new year means changes including new hires for teachers and administrative jobs, buildings that have been renovated, as well as programs and classroom tools that have been added. The following is a catalog of stories outlining the major changes at each area school district.

Construction progress at the new high school building is what is covered in Franklin's summary. Read the full article here: http://www.metrowestdailynews.com/news/x1155158556/Its-back-to-school-time#ixzz2ddRCM2p8

Franklin Farmer's Market
Fridays 12-6 PM

Have you been to the Farmer's Market this summer? It is looking GREAT! Lots of farms, plus bakeries, local honey, a cheese and meat purveyor, and a knife sharpener. (I am definitely bringing mine tomorrow!) Whether you're trying to eat healthier, like to support local businesses, or just have an interest in great fresh food, you should stop by the Common tomorrow.

FDP
Harvest Festival is October 6th!
Franklin Downtown Partnership is a wonderful organization. Among the many projects they take on, the Harvest Festival is a great opportunity for family fun. We will have a booth at the festival, and hope to see you there.

A Royal Pair
Re
  Regina
Who holds more power, the King or the Queen? In chess, the loss of the King ends the game. But the Queen has superior mobility and range; without his Queen, the King is stripped of much of his power and worth.
In wine, the answer is simpler: Both, but for different reasons.
Renieri Estate is owned by Marco Bacci, a man so fanatical about details that, when one of the estate's five historic oak trees was struck by lightning, he had all the labels re-designed to show the tree lying on its side.
That attention to detail extends to the wines, of course. Re (the King) is a Bordeaux-style blend of Merlot, Cabernet, Cabernet Franc, and Petite Verdot. It is flashy and brash, with big flavors of blackberry, licorice, and spice, a big tannic structure and a long, lingering finish.
Regina (the Queen) is more of a mystery. She'll draw you in with a fragrant nose, tantalize you with lush berry, plum, and spice flavors, and then perplex you with a long, brooding finish. 100% Syrah. One of the best and most interesting wines I've drunk this year.
Both rated 94+ by multiple critics. Very limited.

 LNO Updates
LNO

Next Thursday's LNO is shaping up beautifully!

September 5's 120 minutes of 'me time' will include the following:

We will be sampling foods from Foxboro Meat and Cheese, a purveyor of raw milk cheeses from the own Ayrshire herd. This is a family-owned and operated farm, and we're happy to introduce our customers to such a great local producer!

Chris Warner of White Oak Cottages in Westwood will be speaking about their unique approach to elder care. He'll be available for questions afterwards.

Theresa Duggan of Art and Discord Studios is an interesting, innovative photographer. She'll be bringing many of her current works, but also showcasing a new technique of vintage-style tintypes. We have a few of her pieces on display in the store, or check out her website Here.

It's a good bet we will scare up some delicious wine, too. There are also rumors of an excellent new craft cocktail..

Hope to see you there! rsvp to ann@pourrichardswine.com with 'LNO' in the subject line.
Please share this email with friends who are interested in exceptional wine, beer, and spirits. (It's bad karma to keep all the good stuff for yourself.)
