FPS: Community Update
Ernesto Sirolli: Want to help someone? Shut up and listen!
"What you do [to provide better aid is] you shut up. You never arrive in a community with any ideas.” (Ernesto Sirolli)
TEDTalks are great sources of ideas. The speakers effectively deliver their ideas with a story. Ernesto Sirolli tells his story with good humor.
Well worth spending time with (17 minutes).

The Christmas Spirit is alive and well in Franklin!
Over 100 folks enjoyed a dramatic reading of "A Christmas Carol" as performed by Al LePage with musical accompaniment by Rev Diane Carpenter on Thursday evening.
On behalf of the Food Pantry Board of Directors, our sincere thanks to the Historical Commission and to the United Methodist Church for arranging this event. Our special thanks to performer Al Lepage for his significant contribution to make this happen. It was a wonderful performance.
One gentleman as he left the performance checked with Mary Olsson on whether the show had sold out. Informed that there had been about 15 tickets unsold, he said that he would provide a check to ensure that the event had been sold out.
The event raised over $1,300 for the Franklin Food Pantry.
This is the kind of Christmas Spirit that exists in Franklin and for which we are most grateful!

St. Mary's Church in Franklin is sponsoring Bikes for Africa on Saturday, December 15th. They are collecting old bikes in the charter school parking lot from 9-2. If you are like us and have all those old bikes nobody rides anymore, this is a perfect opportunity to get rid of them at no cost and help others.

Ludwick Marishane: A bath without water (video)
This TEDTalk is less than 6 minutes. Ludwick briefly summarizes his motivation and process to develop a waterless bathing solution.
The key for me is his motivation. The second and related key is how he persisted to develop his idea with only his cell phone.
Reminds me of that familiar adage "If there is a will, there is a way!"

12 Days of Donating: Day 12
On the last day of the "12 Days of Donating", let's continue to look back through the events of the year and see how much we can be thankful for in Franklin.
We are still in December, so to try and reflect on the month while only in the middle is a bit fool hardy. The tree has been purchased but not yet set up or decorated. Cookies are being made. Plans are being reviewed, action items completed, presents wrapped and perhaps shipped to places far from Franklin to arrive in time.
There'll be places to go, people to see: performances of the Nutcracker (Dec 15 and 16 at the Patti Eisenhauer Dance Center); Midsummer Night's Dream (Dec 19 and 20 at Franklin High School)... A Christmas Carol at the United Methodist Church this Thursday, Dec 13.
In your travels around Franklin, consider dropping off a contribution of food or non-food items, to the Food Elves and the Franklin Downtown Partnership for their 12 Days of Donating drive. The people of Franklin receive the real benefits of such collaboration!
Donation bins are available at these participating businesses:

Rail Trail Committee meeting Dec 11, 2012 - 7:00 PM
The Franklin and Bellingham Rail Trail Committee (FBRTC) will hold its annual meeting tomorrow evening, Tuesday, December 11, 2012. The meeting will begin at 7:30 pm and will be held at the YMCA in Franklin. This meeting will serve as the FBRTC's annual meeting and we will be electing officers for 2013. If you are interested in serving in this capacity, please respond to this email or contact Marc Kaplan (mkap7@hotmail.com) or David Labonte (david.labonte@verizon.net)
Other items we will discuss at this meeting include: motorized vehicle usage on the trail, a map of the trail in Franklin and Bellingham, potential grant projects, and the developments with the Town of Franklin related to the Prospect St crossing. Attached is an agenda. We need your help with these projects, so please consider attending tomorrow.
Also, last Sunday a group of students from Dean College's Outdoor Recreation Club volunteered to staff an information table at the trail head on Grove St. For a few hours, students took a count of the number of users/visitors to the trail and the type (walker, biker, etc). This could become an ongoing project for the club starting in the spring. While it is unscientific study, it will help give us an idea of the utilization of the trail and help get the word out about the committee and trail efforts. Attached is a picture from last Sunday.
We look forward to your participation and input tomorrow and in 2013.
