Tri-County Regional to Host Annual International Holiday Buffet on December 13
Gerry's Place, the student-run restaurant at Tri-County hosts the 15th annual International Holiday Buffet on Thursday, December 13, from 11 AM to 12:30 PM.
The all-you-can-eat buffet features traditional holiday dishes from around the world. The buffet is priced at $10.95 per person and is available on a first come, first served basis. No reservations will be taken.
"The International Holiday Buffet provides Tri-County Culinary Arts students with a valuable opportunity to explore diverse cuisines," said Tri-County Culinary Arts Instructor, Nancy Haney. "Each year, students in the program research holidays celebrated by different cultures and the traditional foods associated with those events. The group then plans and presents an eclectic menu that represents these traditions."
International menu offerings include: Scallops and Bacon representing the United States, Teriyaki Beef from Japan, Swedish Meatballs, Creole Chicken Gumbo soup from Morocco, Minestrone soup from Italy, Christmas Eve Salad from Spain, Melon and Feta Salad of Ireland, Pickled Beets from England, Roast Leg of Lamb of France, Roast Turkey from England, Baked Ham with a Raisin Sauce from the United States, Shrimp with Coconut of Brazil, Latkes representing Israel, German Potato Salad, Brussels Sprouts with Pancetta from Canada, and Mashed Root Vegetables representing Sweden.
Assorted desserts will include an assortment of international baked goods.

Ledwith, Ronan, and Lewandoski selected for HockomockSports Field Hockey Awards
We share the HockomockSports.com Field Hockey Awards with the three students recognized from Franklin High School.

Maeve Ledwith – Franklin – Defense
Franklin junior Maeve Ledwith built on a strong sophomore season to become one of the top defensive players in the league this year and help Franklin come back from a slow start to the season to make a run to the Div. 1 South semifinal. Ledwith’s speed and ability on the ball make her tough to beat and helped the Panthers escape pressure. Franklin coach Michelle Hess said, “Maeve is a tenacious and fierce defender who uses her speed and stick skills to the best of her ability. Maeve is a talented defender who sees the field and does an excellent job of flying on corners where she breaks up many shot attempts from opposing players.”
Cassi Ronan – Franklin – Midfield
Franklin senior Cassi Ronan was once again one of the top players in the Hockomock League and the engine in the heart of the midfield that drove the Panthers to second place in the Kelley-Rex division. Ronan scored 14 goals and had 13 assists this season and finished her four-year varsity career with 82 points. Franklin coach Michelle Hess said, “Cassi plays the most difficult position on the field. Cassi’s stick skills are impressive and her drive and shots on goal are by far some of the hardest I have ever seen a high school player take. Cassi is a two-year captain who leads by example. Cassi will be missed a lot next year!”

Amanda Lewandowski – Franklin – Forward
Franklin sophomore Amanda Lewandowski emerged as one of the Panthers top scoring threats this season and someone who can rise to the big occasion. Lewandowski scored 13 goals and had 13 assists this season to be on the league’s top scorers, but she also came through in the clutch, with five of her goals coming in the tournament. Franklin coach Michelle Hess said, “Amanda is a rising star. Her aggressive and impressive stick skills and her ability to find the net or dish to a teammate make her a scoring threat each and every time she has the ball…Other teams have a hard time shutting her down.”

“Every day it doesn’t snow, I’m a happy DPW director"
"After struggling to find help, the Department of Public Works is offering new incentives for candidates to plow streets this winter.
Last week, the Town Council agreed to offer additional cash bonuses to hire about 30 more contractors with snow removal machinery before the winter weather sets in this year.
Contractors who are already signed up have been given an extra $1,000. In addition, they’ve also been offered a $500 bonus for each piece of equipment that stays in commission until the end of the season.
“Say that you have eight pieces (of equipment), that’s four grand at the end of the year,” said DPW Director Robert “Brutus” Cantoreggi.
In addition, the DPW is also offering $500 to current contractors who successfully recruit others onto the Franklin force."Continue reading the article online (subscription may be required)

Chris Herren to speak in Medway - Dec 11

"Medway area parents and guardians are invited to hear former Celtics player Chris Herren of Fall River, who will share his inspirational - and painful - journey back from addiction to alcohol and drugs in the hopes of preventing others from making the same mistakes.
Back by popular demand, Herren's parent program has proven to be inspiring and powerful to Medway area parents and guardians. His tale of descent into addiction and a miraculous recovery is as powerful as his new life's mission: to share his story with audiences in the hopes of reaching at least one person and making a difference in their life.
At Medway High during school hours, students will watch a moving video chronicling the pro athlete's rise to fame and subsequent fall to substance abuse, and participate in an engaging talkback with Herren to share their views. This evening program is geared toward parents to explore the same topic. One objective of Mr. Herren's presentation is to have students not to begin using substances and how easily substance use can escalate. In this parent talk, he inspires while presenting the negative impact of drug and alcohol use, the reality of addiction, and how some students engage in self-injurious behaviors.
Parents will also be moved by this discussion on what we can do to help our teens be true to themselves and resist the need to turn to dangerous and destructive behaviors, and ways to support those who may be facing personal challenges.
The negative effects that drug and alcohol use can have on an individual and their loved ones is an important responsibility that we share with our families and the community. Please attend this free event and help spread the word.
