Watch "Fallen Heroes Pt3" , "Fallen Heroes Pt4", & "Fallen Heroes Pt5" on YouTube

The Town of Franklin has one of the most beautiful Veteran’s Memorial areas in the state.  If you haven’t been there recently, it is worth a visit.  There are monuments for all wars centered in front of the WWI “Doughboy” monument.  At the rear of the monument area is the Veterans’ Memorial Walkway which currently honors 1866 veterans who have served America.

Perhaps the most moving part of the Memorial area are the 45 granite posts which line the Veterans’ Walkway. Each one of these posts is dedicated to a Franklin veteran who gave his life, defending our freedom. These columns are beautifully done, marked with bronze plaques and a flag. During the holidays, each is also decorated with a beautiful wreath.

Over the past few months, Franklin’s Veterans’ organizations, the Edward L. Grant American Legion Post 75, and the Veteran’s of Foreign Wars Post 3402, under the auspices of the Town’s Veterans Council, have developed a program to further honor those who died for our nation, to ensure they are remembered, and their stories are kept alive.

This program will include the placing of a Memorial Wreath for the day, the playing of Taps, a salute from those present, and a reading of whatever history we may have on that veteran. This is a way of keeping the memory of that veteran alive.

This event will happen 45 times during the coming year.  Some months, like January, only one ceremony will be held. Other months will have multiple ceremonies, such as February with 4 and June with 7.   On March 10, April 9, July 18, and September 21, there will be dual ceremonies as we lost two veterans on the same day.

Families of the veterans, if known, will be invited to attend the ceremony.

The public is invited to attend these ceremonies to honor those who gave their lives.

Franklin’s military organizations support numerous veterans’ activities  and encourage all veterans in town to join them.

Tamisha Civil: candidate for Governor's Council District 2 - Democratic Primary

"Tamisha Civil is a community advocate with over 10 years of experience working in our criminal justice system. She’s running for Governor’s Council because she has the right experience and vision to make our justice system work fairly for everyone in our Commonwealth.
Tamisha Civil: candidate for Governor's Council District 2 - Democratic Primary
Tamisha Civil
Tamisha is the proud daughter of Haitian immigrants who came to Massachusetts for better opportunities. Her parents worked hard to provide a better future for their children, a work ethic they inspired in her. Thanks to her family and her passion, Tamisha became the first person in her family to graduate from college. She obtained a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice and Leadership from Northeastern University.

Tamisha’s life changed when her cousin was falsely imprisoned for murder. She had to watch helplessly as the person who helped raise her sat behind bars, unable to attend even his own mother’s funeral. Tamisha’s cousin sat behind bars for 27 years, losing his entire adolescence and early adulthood. After years of justice denied, her cousin was exonerated in 2021.

What happened to Tamisha’s family is far too common. Too many families are torn apart by miscarriages of justice — whether that means overincarceration of minority communities, the criminalization of mental health & drug use, or our inadequate response to sexual violence."

Fallen Hero Recognition: Edward C. Dailey - Aug 20, 2024 at 9 AM

Memorial event today (8/20/24) at 9 AM on the Town Common Veterans Walkway to honor Edward C. Dailey

This program will include the placing of a Memorial Wreath for the day, the playing of Taps, a salute from those present, and a reading of whatever history  may be available for that veteran.  This is a way of keeping the memory of that veteran alive.

Fallen Hero: Staff Sergeant Edward C. Dailey, U.S. Army Air Corps
Staff Sergeant Edward C. Dailey, U.S. Army Air Corps, son of John and Julia Dailey, was born on May 20, 1924. Edward lived with his parents and two sisters at 100 Union Street. Edward attended the Franklin public schools and graduated from Franklin High School in 1942. While at Franklin High, Edward was the captain of the basketball team and was an outstanding athlete in football and baseball as well.
Edward Dailey entered the army in 1943 and was assigned to the air force where he qualified as an aerial gunner. SSgt Edward Dailey participated in 11 bombing missions before the fatal mission which took his life in 1944. The following details of the mission were sent to Edward’s family, by Maurice J. Beacond, Jr., the pilot of the targeted plane: “Staff Sergeant Edward C. Dailey lost his life while on a bombing mission over Hungary in an attack of German fighter planes who concentrated their attack on the U.S. bomber. The bomber was fatally hit, caught fire from nose to bomb-bays, went into a vertical dive, and exploded.
Staff Sergeant Edward C. Dailey was 20 years old at the time of his death on August 20, 1944 somewhere over Hungary.
