pening?

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is announcing a new date for opening of the new ramp connecting I-90 westbound to I-495 northbound, as well as overnight ramp closures at the I-495/I-90 interchange to facilitate construction operations.

I-90 Westbound to I-495 Northbound Ramp Opening

The new I-90 westbound ramp to I-495 northbound is now scheduled to open on Saturday, September 19. This work will require a single lane closure on I-90 westbound from 8:00 PM on Friday, September 18 to 5:00 AM on Saturday, September 19. You can view a map of the new ramp here

Overnight Ramp Closures

The I-495 northbound ramp to Route 9 East (Exit 59A) will be closed nightly from Monday, September 21 through Thursday, September 24, from 10:00 PM each night to 5:00 AM the following morning. During these overnight closures, the following detour will be in place:

  • Take Exit 59B (Route 9 West) to reverse direction onto I-495 southbound to access Exit 59A (Route 9 East).

Appropriate signage, law enforcement details, and messaging will be in place to guide drivers through the work area.

Drivers traveling through the affected areas should expect delays, reduce speed, and use caution.

All scheduled work is weather dependent and/or may be impacted due to an emergency.

About the Project

The purpose of the I-495/I-90 Interchange Improvements Project is to provide a safe and efficient interchange of the interstate highways I-495 & I-90. The project will replace the interchange, eliminate the old toll booth area and weaving areas, improve ramp spacing, acceleration, and deceleration lanes, and add an auxiliary lane from I-495 Northbound to Route 9. New bridges will be constructed on I-495 over I-90, on I-495 and I-90 over the MBTA/CSX/Amtrak lines, on I-495 Northbound over Flanders Road, and on Fruit Street.

Boston Globe: "Who's funding the sides for each Mass. ballot question?"

"This fall, Massachusetts voters will be asked to weigh in on a record-tying nine statewide ballot questions, the most since 1994.

The high number of questions has the potential to draw a lot of cash as committees spearheading efforts to pass or reject the ballot initiatives make their pitches to voters. Already, the various races have drawn millions.

Click on the link in our bio for an in-depth look at who is funding each ballot question and how each side is faring in the money race.

Data include contributions made since Jan. 1, 2025, and exclude in-kind contributions. Some committees are supporting multiple ballot questions."

Sophomore Cade Taccini, senior Jossie Camp, senior Kiley Silvestri, sophomore Lila Reardon, and sophomore Cara Freiwald (first career goal) also found the back of the net. Junior Penelope Brady dished out two assists, while senior Tori Cahill, senior Caydence Canavan, and Reardon also set up goals. Junior Elise Ackerman recorded the shutout in net.

Golf = Sharon, 188 @ Franklin, 152 – Final
– Senior Tyler Perlman fired an even-par 35 to earn match medalist honors and help Franklin complete the season sweep of Sharon after also beating the Eagles earlier in the week at the Cape Club of Sharon. Perlman birdied four and five, while junior Bryce Botelho carded a 36 with a birdie on two and six pars. Senior Ben Burgess added a 39, and sophomore Ethan Helm rounded out the Panthers’ scoring with a 42 that included birdies on two and seven. For Sharon, senior Chase Coffman led the Eagles with a 45, while senior Kuvum Suppal and junior Griffin Weiner each shot 49.

Volleyball = Oliver Ames, 3 @ Franklin, 2 – Final
Franklin TV video for replay -  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FG_Zyf7mlPY

"A matchup between two of the best volleyball teams in the state lived up to the hype on Friday night. A full five sets were needed to crown a winner between the Hockomock League foes, but Oliver Ames came away with the win, 25-19, 20-25, 20-25, 25-22, 15-8.

Oliver Ames trailed 3-1 early in the deciding fifth set before rattling off five consecutive points to take the lead.

The Tigers led 8-4 when the teams switched sides at the midway mark. Senior Taylor Donohue kept the momentum rolling after the swap with a kill, and sophomore Lyla Yurrita eventually put the finishing touches on the win with a forceful block. The clinching block was Yurrita’s third of the match.

“I think we know what it feels like to lose, and I just don’t think we wanted to feel like that again,” Oliver Ames middle blocker and senior Claire Kenny said. “We did have a slow start, but I think just hyping each other up in the huddles and saying that we can do it really got us to push each other harder.”

The Panthers and Tigers were the Division I and Division II state champions last year, respectively. As such, there was no shortage of anticipation leading into the matchup."

Horace Mann & The Framingham Legacy

Horace Mann & The Framingham Legacy
Did you know America’s first public teachers' college had to move twice just to keep up with demand?

Horace Mann’s vision for state-funded normal schools was so popular that it quickly outgrew its original walls.

Here is the journey to its permanent home:
📍 1839 – Lexington: Opened as the nation’s first state-supported normal school, but rapidly ran out of space.

📍 1844 – West Newton: Relocated to handle the booming enrollment.

📍 1853 – Framingham: Finally settled on Bare Hill. Framingham offered a roomy, picturesque campus that could support generations of future educators.

Today, that vision lives on at Framingham State University, the oldest public university in the U.S. founded for teacher education!
