Franklin Residents to Participate in the 38th Annual Jimmy Fund Walk for Dana-Farber Presented by Hyundai

46 residents from Franklin will participate in the 2026 Jimmy Fund Walk for Dana-Farber presented by Hyundai on Sunday, October 4.

 

Debra Honor, Colleen Devereaux, and John Moore, along with dozens of other Franklin residents and thousands of other walkers, will participate in the annual event that will unite the community to raise funds to support all forms of adult and pediatric care and research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Last year marked a historic milestone, with the Walk raising more than $11.2 million for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and setting the stage for an even greater impact in 2026.

 

“Each year, the Walk brings our community together in a powerful way, with people of all ages supporting Dana-Farber’s groundbreaking research and patient care,” said Jessica Abbott, assistant vice president of the Jimmy Fund. “For more than three decades, this event has been a celebration of hope, where every step helps fuel breakthroughs, support patients, and inspire progress.”

 

Together Against Cancer

 

The Jimmy Fund Walk for Dana-Farber takes place along the famed Boston Marathon^® course. Participants have the flexibility to choose from four distance options ranging from a 5K to a full marathon. Walkers can also participate virtually at a time and location that works for them.

 

Whatever route participants choose, they will be supported by hundreds of volunteers and treated to refueling stations with refreshments throughout the course. Walkers will be motivated by posters of Heroes, the Walk's adult and pediatric patient partners, that appear along the course as inspiration. All routes will conclude at the Jimmy Fund Walk for Dana-Farber Finish Line sponsored by Schneider Electric at Boston Common, by the corner of Charles and Beacon Street. Finish line activities will include a celebration with food, entertainment, and more.

Fallen Hero Recognition: Frank J. Smith - Sep 25, 2026, 9 AM

Memorial event today (9/25/26) at 9 AM on the Town Common Veterans Walkway to honor Frank J. Smith, Pvt. U S Army, WWI.   

This program will include the placing of a Memorial Wreath for the day, the playing of Taps, a salute from those present, and a reading of whatever history  may be available for that veteran.  This is a way of keeping the memory of that veteran alive.

Fallen Hero: Frank J. Smith, Pvt. U S Army, WWI

Frank Smith was inducted into the Army on 22 July 1918, into the 21st Company, 6th Training Battalion.

He then was transferred to Company A, 42nd Infantry on 121 August 1918 at Camp Devens. 

Pvt. Smith died of disease, probably the Flu Epidemic, on this date 1918.

Franklin School Committee meeting goes long on the School Improvement Plans (audio)

FM #1828 = This is the Franklin Matters radio show, numbers 1828 in the series. 

This session shares the Franklin (MA) School Committee meeting held on Tuesday, September 22, 2026 at 7:00 PM. 6 of the 7 members were present in Council Chambers, 1 participated remotely.

Quick recap

• While the District Improvement Plan was reviewed last meeting, this session gets to the next level down, the school level plans. They started with ECDC, the Elementary k-2, then 3-5, then middle school and high school. Each administrator(s) presented the key 4 four goals. After all the initial presentations were made, the committee then in reverse order asked questions or commented on what was presented (high school, middle school, 3-5, K-2 and ECDC)

Due to the timing (DESE submitted guidance just before school opened) and this was supposed to be in place before school started. The second reading was voted to be waived to move the measure into policy quickly

– Franklin fell to powerhouse Saint John’s of Shrewsbury at Wachusett Country Club, with senior Tyler Perlman leading the Panthers with a 39. Senior Ben Burgess followed with a 40, senior Ayden Doyle carded a 41, and junior Bryce Botelho, sophomore Albie Lomberto, and junior Anthony Ficco each finished with a 43 to round out Franklin’s scoring.
