“There’s a lot of uncertainty now”

From the Milford Daily News, articles of interest for Franklin:
"Town Council will discuss an increase in retail marijuana tax at a meeting on Wednesday. The one percent increase would bring the total tax to three percent.
The original legislation on the ballot in 2016 indicated that the sales tax on recreational marijuana was allowed at two percent. Recent legislation has amended the law, allowing municipalities to tax up to three percent. The motion in front of the town council will confirm or deny the tax increase.
The state is due to start accepting applications for retail marijuana facilities on April 1, and since Franklin is one of the municipalities that is already zoned and does not have a moratorium, the town likely see a few.
State Rep. Jeff Roy, D-Franklin, said that anytime revenue can be sought without adding to property taxes is a positive, and will always help town governments."

St. Mary St. Vincent de Paul Society: Baby Bottle Drive in February

During the month of February, the St. Mary St. Vincent de Paul Society is sponsoring a Baby Bottle Drive to support the Abundant Hope Pregnancy Resource Center in Attleboro.

Participants may pick up a baby bottle at St. Mary’s church, take it home and fill it with a generous donation of change, cash, or checks (payable to Abundant Hope). All bottles will need to be returned to the church the weekend of February 17-18.

Your contribution makes a significant difference in the lives of families in need. This is a wonderful opportunity to involve your entire family in raising money and supporting those in our community.

Bottles will be available the weekend of January 27-28. They will be due back to the church on February 17-18.

Thank you in advance for your participation and generosity.

"St. Anselm College women’s hockey is on a roll at the start of the new season, racking up 14 wins in the opening 17 games including a win against Franklin Pierce on Friday, and one of the leaders for the Hawks again this winter is senior forward Kaitlyn Spillane.

"we don’t want to rush the process"

From the Milford Daily News, articles of interest for Franklin:

"School officials may extend the application deadline for residents interested in studying the issue of later school start times and whether they would work.
Although the board’s call for volunteers to sit on an advisory panel to study the issue drew lots of interest, board Chairman Anne Bergen said many still had some questions about the scope of the panel’s directive. The school board had given a deadline of Jan. 17 to apply for the panel.
“While we did have a large response from the community, a number of people are asking us to provide more information relative to the time commitment,” Bergen said Friday. “We are considering providing additional information and perhaps extending slightly our deadline for application.”
She said the topic will be up for discussion at the School Committee’s meeting on Tuesday. The session is set to begin at 7 p.m. and will be held in the town council chambers at the Franklin Municipal Building, 355 East Central St."
