To the Tri-County Community,

I wanted to start by updating every one of our performances in Skills USA and First Robotics. First, congratulations to the students who will compete at the National Skills USA Conference in Louisville, Kentucky from June 25 – 30. All of these students received either gold, silver, or bronze medals at our state competition:

Over 400 teams were invited to compete at First Robotics World Championships in Detroit, MI. Tri-Force competed in the Daly division against 68 teams from all over the world. After 2 days of intense competition, major work, and several design changes to our robot during competition, we ended up 30th in our division. Congratulations, to advisors, Mike Garland and Tom Vagnini, as well all the students that participated.

As we approach the end of the year we want everyone to be aware of these important dates:

Fourth quarter grades will close on June 13th.  Student finals are scheduled to take place on the last five days of the school year from June 19th through June 25th. These days will be half days for all students. During Finals, June 19th and 20th are B Day finals, June 21st and 22nd are A Day finals.  June 25th will be a make-up day for all finals. Please note, it is important to realize and that these are school days and attendance will be taken, including June 25th.  Buses will run on their normal routes. Again, attendance counts.

Lastly, I am pleased to inform you that many of our Tri-County staff have been recently certified in CPR and to operate the numerous AED equipment that have been installed throughout the school.

Help Joshuea Ogbuike Get to His Dream Internship

Hello Everyone!

Many of you know me but if I have not yet had the pleasure of meeting you my name is Joshuea Ogbuike! I am a rising senior in the UMASS Amherst Sports Management program and was just awarded a fantastic opportunity! I will be spending this summer participating in a highly selective and competitive internship at USSSA who will be running and hosting the first ever U.S. based edition of the WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup in Viera, Florida.

The internship will allow me the opportunity to participate in the organizing of the Women’s Baseball World Cup and spread the awareness of women’s baseball as a sport. This opportunity with be my stepping stone towards advocating for equality in women’s sports. In a short time I have already been able to peak the curiosity of my professors and other individuals with my aspirations to establish a professional women’s baseball league in North America in 2028.

I am hoping this opportunity will better further my understanding of women’s baseball and women's roles in sports as a whole. With all that has come to light recently about horrible mistreatment of women by their own industries, I look forward to taking the steps to help make sure it no longer happens in the sports industry.

This is why I need your help to make sure that I can participate in this once in a life time internship opportunity with USSSA this summer. Your donation will help me offset the cost of housing for the internship.

Frankly, I will not be able to participate in the internship without it so I thank you in advance for any sum you offer. Your donation is supporting a vision that is so much bigger than me.

I truly hope you will consider participating in my campaign.

In the News: Peacheaters and Daybreakers to perform; Lifelong Community Learning summer registration open

From the Milford Daily News, articles of interest for Franklin.

"The Black Box Local Artist Series will present The Peacheaters — an Allman Brothers band experience — and The Daybreakers at 8 p.m. May 25 at The Black Box, 15 W. Central St.
Fueled by admiration and passion for the music of the Allman Brothers Band, The Peacheaters have been performing for more than 15 years, digging deep into the 40-plus year catalog of Allman Brothers Band music. The Boston Globe, WZLX - Boston’s Classic Rock Radio, and many other media outlets have raved about the authenticity of the band’s performances, and the group has won multiple “Best Tribute Band” awards. From festivals to concert halls, the band’s success has taken them all over the U.S., including performances at venues such as Showcase Live, The House of Blues, Daytona’s Bike Week, The Big House in Macon, GA and B.B. "new fare would begin June 9"

From the Milford Daily News, articles of interest for Franklin. This is a good idea for Franklin line riders after suffering through shuttle buses for two months due to construction on the weekends. The normal round trip fare for Franklin is $20 so getting multiple rides on the weekend for $10 is a real bargain.

"The commuter rail plans to experiment with new weekend fares this summer, offering customers a $10 ticket to ride as much as they want Saturday and Sunday.
“This crisp ten dollar bill would be good for unlimited rides all weekend long,” said Evan Rowe, the T’s revenue chief.
The special price will apply to customers over the age of 12 and paying adults can travel with up to two children for free.
Typically, a round trip fare costs $15.
“It should be leisure rail,” Rowe said."

Franklin PMC Kids Ride planned - June 10

Are you looking for a fun event to do with your children while coming together as a community to help fight cancer? Come join Franklin's 12th annual PMC Kids Ride being held on Sunday, June 10. The Franklin PMC Kids Ride will be one of more than 35 PMC Kids Rides throughout the New England area.

Last year, the Franklin ride attracted over 250 young cyclists between the ages of 3 and 14, who rode between 3 and 10 miles. The ride exceeded their fundraising goal and raised more than $55,000 for cancer care and research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. The ride offers a way for children to become part of the PMC mission by involving them in volunteerism and fundraising in a safe and athletic way.

The Franklin PMC Kids Ride will be held on Sunday, June 10 from 8 AM to 12 PM, and will start and end at the Remington/Jefferson School, 628 Washington Street in Franklin. Kids can select from a 3, 6 or 10-mile course. Younger participants not yet on 2 wheels can take part in the Tikes and Trikes course in a contained area at the school.

There is a $10 registration fee and a $30 fundraising minimum. There will be a party after the ride, with music, games, food, face painting and more.

Register on line at http://www.kids.pmc.org/franklin.aspx. All local communities are encouraged to participate.

Franklin Historical Museum: The Brides Return in June

The Franklin Historical Museum will open its annual Bridal Gown Exhibit in coordination with this year’s Downtown Partnership’s Strawberry Stroll on Friday, June 8. The museum will open early, at 4:00 PM for this special event.

This year’s exhibit will focus on Franklin brides and their vintage mid-century gowns from our collection. The display will include Emma Velluti’s famous Parachute Dress, a one of a kind original creation of a wartime gown locally designed and hand made from a silk Japanese parachute sent home by her groom, Edward Rabioli, in 1946. The train on this dress is so long, the dress needs a room of its own to be displayed. Also included is the beautiful preserved gown worn by Franklin’s own Stella Jeon. Stella’s daughter donated the dress, still boxed in its preserved state, to the museum after her death.

The gown had been professionally preserved, as many gowns were in those days. When the carefully wrapped and sealed box was opened, it was the first time anyone had seen the dress in over 60 years and the first time Stella’s daughter had seen it other than in photographs. The dress along with many mementos from Stella and Nick’s wedding day will be showcased together for this display.

The exhibit includes photographs, newspaper clippings, and stories of the brides, their grooms and their special day.

At least a dozen beautiful vintage gowns will be on display in the exhibit that runs through the summer from Friday June 8 through Sunday August 26.

Two special presentations will take place in conjunction with exhibit.

Why do brides wear white? Does a slice of wedding cake under your pillow bring good luck? Learn all about wedding traditions, superstitions and their origins in Something Borrowed, Something Blue on Sunday July 8

And on Sunday August 12, Maureen Taylor, the Photo Detective returns to share clues in how to identify people in family photos. She’ll focus her talk on wedding photos, styles and fashion hints. The Photo Detective’s presentation is sponsored by the Friends of the Franklin Historical Museum. Both presentations begin at 1:15.

The Franklin Historical Museum is located at 80 West Central Street, is wheelchair accessible and is always free.
