Call for Vendors for the first winter farmers market at Fairmount Fruit Farm

"The Franklin Agway is sponsoring the first market, so if food vendors sign up for the season by Nov 18th we will pay for the first market.
(We are willing to pay for all vendors first market fee, so if people vendors say they saw it in Franklin Matters then they can get the deal too.)"

Welcome vendors!

Fairmount Fruit Farm would like to welcome you to our first ever winter farmers market! This is a great opportunity for you to get your business noticed, meet new people and really expand your horizons. There will be beer and wine tastings for ages 21+ from local wineries and breweries added to our market as well!

Below is some basic information regarding our new 6 month market.

What: A winter farmers market where local farms and crafters/vendors can gather together to sell products and network within their community.

Where: Fairmount Fruit Farm located at 887 Lincoln Street, Franklin Ma, 02038 - in one of the heated greenhouses.

When: Saturdays November to April from 10am-2pm. *See dates below.
*Nov 23rd / Dec 21st / Jan 25th / Feb 15th / Mar 21st / Apr 18th

Set-Up Information: Vendors are allowed to start setting up at 9:00am in the greenhouse. Loren or CJ will give you your assigned slot. Please make sure to bring your own tables and chairs, as the farm does not provide any for vendors.
Tents are not required or needed.

Vendors will be allowed to pull their vehicles up to the greenhouse to unload their supplies. Parking will then be provided for vendors in front of the farm stand.

Additional Information: All vendors must show appropriate forms of insurance and any applicable permits they may need.

This is a rain, shine or snow market. In the event of unforeseen circumstances or inclement weather, all vendors will be notified as soon as possible.

We accept all forms of payment (cash, card, checks). Please make all checks payable to Fairmount Fruit Farm. No refunds will be issued. If you pay for the whole season by Nov 18th, your first month will be free and will be sponsored by Franklin Agway.

Newsletter Fall 2019   Relieving hunger. Nourishing lives. Letter from Lynn As I wrap up my first 3 months at the Franklin Food Pantry, I have so much to reflect on, but what stands out to me the most is the welcome and support that I have found within the Franklin community. It's clear to me that the Franklin community recognizes the importance of the Food Pantry. Many Americans are just one job loss or medical crisis away from food insecurity. The Franklin Food Pantry knows this and is here when someone needs us - whether it is for a short time due to a life circumstance, or if it is on an ongoing basis.  We believe that no one should go hungry or need to worry about where their next meal will come from. I am grateful to be working with such an amazing team of staff and volunteers, as well as a supportive community, that believes in supporting their friends and neighbors.  Since January 1, 2019, 119 volunteers have shared over 4,000 hours of their time with us! During this same period, we have distributed 1,308 backpacks to Franklin elementary school children, we have served 467 households representing 1,034 individuals: 164 seniors, 604 adults, and 266 children.  While food insecurity is an ongoing issue for our town, our state, and our country, the people of Franklin should feel proud to know that they are part of the solution.  There are many ways for you to get involved - run with us on Thanksgiving morning, volunteer as a Food Elf (or support one with a donation!), make a financial contribution, shop through AmazonSmile and share our social media posts.  We appreciate the support the community has shown us, and we could not do it without you. If you have questions or would like to get more involved with us, please feel free to reach out to me. "The site of a long-vacant drug manufacturing plant on Otis Street is getting a new life.

Amazon.com Inc. announced plans on Wednesday to construct a $40 million Amazon Robotics Innovation Hub at the former AstraZeneca site at 50 Otis St. and bring 200 new jobs to town. The 35,000-square-foot facility will be in addition to the Amazon Robotics facility in North Reading that will together serve as the e-commerce giant’s epicenter of robotics innovation.

“We are going to completely re-do that site,” said Tye Brady, Amazon Robotics chief technologist, in a phone interview with the Daily News. “I can guarantee it’s going to be a world-class, state-of-the-art facility.”

The innovation hub will feature corporate offices, research and development labs and manufacturing space. The new location will allow Amazon Robotics to grow its engineering, manufacturing, support and test teams in the state. Crews will design, build, program and ship robots all under the same roof that will improve delivery speeds for customers around the world, said Brady."

This is good news. There are robotics groups in local schools. There is also the robotics group that has moved into the Red Brick School to utilize that facility for their robotics activities.

School Committee - Recap of 10/15/19 meeting

Catching up to this recap (apologies for the delay, was spending time on the election prep which was more important at the time).

• The Superintendent's Report announced the authors visit to the three middle schools. This visit was funded by an FEF grant. 
• FHS students along with FHS teachers Kevin McCarthy and Mike Walsh provided an update on their trip to Germany this summer. 66 students participated in what was summarized as a success!
• NEASC Two-Year Update – Paul Peri and William Klements provided an update that FHS did receive the accreditation. In the final report, there were 9 highlighted recommendations; 3 were completed outright and 6 of the 9 deal with 21st century and are connected with the Portrait of a Graduate work already underway.
• Joyce Edwards and Kristin Letendre provided and update on the Health and Wellness program (presentation copy found below)
• Policy updates on the meeting procedure were approved
• The Superintendent's new contract was approved (1% increase in line with other contracts)

Franklin Cultural District Partners Meeting - Nov 21

Franklin Cultural District Partners and Franklin residents and business owners are invited to join the Franklin Cultural District Committee (FCDC) and the Massachusetts Cultural Council (MCC) in discussing culture, arts and the humanities in Franklin’s Cultural District. Let’s Laugh Today in Franklin is on Tuesday, November 12th (and every second Tuesday once a month) from 7:30pm to 8:30pm at the Meetinghouse of the First Universalist Society in Franklin, 262 Chestnut Street, Franklin, Massachusetts. 

Enjoy this delightful practice, appropriate for all ages and levels of fitness. When we laugh, we energize our bodies and revive our spirits. All that is involved is deep breathing and a few stretches, playful laughter exercises (no jokes or comedy), clapping and deep relaxation. 

It has many benefits besides the joy of laughter. It can strengthen the immune system, combat the negative effects of stress, and is a powerful antidote to depression and anxiety. 

$5 donation to the church, $10 maximum per family. Please bring your water bottle because laughing can be dehydrating.
