Franklin TV: President’s Day - Dean College has a new President

by Pete Fasciano, Executive Director 02/12/2023

Ken Elmore, left, interviews Franklin TV veteran, Frank Falvey, to the right
Ken Elmore, left, interviews Franklin TV veteran, Frank Falvey, to the right

Dean College President Ken Elmore, JD, is starting his tenure – by listening and engaging with folks. Recently, Elmore recorded his first TV program and podcast in our studio with our own Frank Falvey as his guest.

Franklin.TV and Dean College already enjoy a long-standing, mutually beneficial media relationship. Both we and they operate TV studios and public service radio stations, and we and Dean's media teaching staff confer regularly on industry trends and how best to prepare students for future careers. Elmore underscored the need to ensure that Dean's curriculum is always looking and moving forward.

Elmore joined Dean early last summer, becoming the school's 14th president, after his highly regarded service as Dean of Students for Boston University.
Thanks for listening to 102.9 wfpr●fm.
And – as always – thanks for watching.

Dean College to Host an Evening Salon to Celebrate the Legacy of Bayard Rustin

In celebration of Black History Month, Dean College is pleased to announce a special program to celebrate and reflect on the life and work of Bayard Rustin — a visionary activist and strategist described by TIME Magazine as “perhaps the most critical figure in the struggle for African American dignity that many people have never heard of.”

On Wednesday, February 15, 2023, Dean College President Kenneth Elmore will lead the discussion on Rustin’s life and legacy with two special guests: Walter Naegle, who was Rustin’s life partner; and Bennett Singer, a filmmaker who co-directed “Brother Outsider: The Life of Bayard Rustin,” an award- winning film about Rustin. Clips from the documentary will be interspersed throughout the conversation.

The event will take place at Marvin Chapel, inside Dean Hall on the Dean College campus, 99 Main Street, Franklin, Mass., from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. Both Naegle and Singer will join the conversation with the community via Zoom, while Elmore will moderate the in-person discussion.

The event is FREE and open to students, faculty, staff and the general public. To learn more about Dean College, visit www.dean.edu.

Dean College is a private, residential New England college grounded in a culture and tradition that all students deserve the opportunity for academic and personal success. A uniquely supportive community for more than 150 years, Dean has woven together extensive student support and engagement with exceptional teaching and innovative campus activities. February 12, 2023 - Second Sunday Speaker Canceled - to be rescheduled

Due to a death in the Lawson family, the event scheduled for Sunday, Feb 12, 2023 has been canceled and will be rescheduled. We extend our condolences to the Lawson family for their loss.

February Second Sunday Speaker Series at Franklin Historical Museum features Dean College Professor Rob Lawson

History is everywhere around us—we all know that. However, we often focus on that which is most easily seen: a monument, an historic site, a holiday marking an historical anniversary. Inspired to find social connections and foster historical curiosity during the COVID-19 pandemic, two editors at the New England Journal of History (who happen to also be Dean College professors) developed a citizen-historian video series entitled History in Your Backyard. The goal was to get people looking for—and sharing—the history in our communities.
