The three middle school reading specialists would like to invite you to attend one (or more!) of our upcoming author events next week.
We are proud to have kept the visiting author tradition alive over the past two years and are thrilled that Leslie Connor will be presenting at all three middle schools IN PERSON next week. She is also hosting a meet and greet at Escape into Fiction Wednesday evening.
Thank you for your ongoing support of this initiative; Franklin has a reputation as a town that grows readers and it's events like this that keep the spirit alive.

The Concert Series Book is comprised of ads donated from local businesses and donations from parents, relatives, and friends. The book raises money to support the numerous programs offered by the Franklin Music Department to the 900+ band, chorus, and orchestra students.
The Concert Series Book also contains the complete 2022-2023 Music Calendar for the Franklin School District and is distributed freely to all who attend the high school and middle school concerts throughout the year. The Concert Series Book will be provided at all concerts.
The Concert Series Book campaign is a primary fundraiser of the Franklin Music Boosters, Inc. FM #865 = This is the Franklin Matters radio show, number 865 in the series.
This session of the radio show shares my conversation with State Representative Shawn Dooley, candidate for State Senate Norfolk, Bristol and Middlesex District. We had our conversation in the Franklin Public Radio studio.
Our conversation started with Shawn providing his ‘short story’ by way of introduction to the community. We also cover what issues or trends he is picking up as he makes his campaign rounds.
Links to Rep Dooley’s campaign page, contact information, and blog are provided in the show notes.

The 495/MetroWest Partnership (@495Partnership) tweeted at 11:26 AM on Tue, Oct 18, 2022:
Thank you to State Rep. @jeffroy for presenting to our Energy & Sustainable Development Committee on this session's climate legislation. Missed the event?
"On Tuesday, October 18th, 2022, the Energy and Sustainable Development Committee of the 495/MetroWest Partnership hosted a special presentation from State Representative Jeffrey N. Roy of Franklin, who serves as House Chairperson of the Legislature's Joint Committee on Telecommunications, Utilities and Energy. The presentation focused on "An Act Driving Clean Energy and Offshore Wind," major climate legislation passed and signed into law in August 2022. The bill contains significant provisions related to clean energy investment, offshore wind, electric vehicles, and more."
In the regular meeting, Wednesday, Oct 19 the Town Council witnessed the swearing in of two firefighter/paramedics, spent time with the Franklin State delegation: Senate President Karen Spilka, Senator Becca Rausch, and State Representative Jeff Roy, before getting into the legislation portion of the meeting.
The Council made two unanimous votes to approve and authorize CPA funding for the purchase of Schmidt's Farm via the first right of approval. The Community Preservation Committee had recommended the purchase in their meeting (10/4) and the Finance Committee had also unanimously approved in their meeting on Tuesday (10/18).
Additional funds ($50K) for the exterior renovation of the Red Brick school were also approved during the session. $200K had been initially budgeted for the repairs but the actual work has shown to be increased due to inflation hence, the additional funds required. $250,000 is the total for the exterior.
With the recent 2020 census results, the resulting redistricting has shifted the Senate districts so Senator Rausch's district covers all of Franklin where previously 3 precincts had been covered by Spilka. The session was the 'final' official visit of all three and the Council recognized Spilka with a proclamation for her service over the years. Both Rausch and Roy have contested elections this November.
