We welcome you to join us tomorrow, Wed. Jan 18th at 1 PM, for our "Where's The Toast" Memory Café at the Franklin Senior Center. Tap Dancing Ted will be entertaining us with songs we all know and love.  

Our café is free and open to anyone with cognitive loss, their family and caregivers.

Both FHS girls and boys basketball teams post wins vs. Canton on Tuesday

Via HockomockSports.com, we share the results of the fall sports competition for Franklin High School on Tuesday, January 17, 2023. We also provide the link to the full set of Hockomock League results below.

Boys Basketball = Canton, 52 @ Franklin, 57 – Final 

– The Bulldogs battled hard on the road and kept pace with top-ranked Franklin but the Panthers ultimately hung on for a hard-fought win. Canton came to play from the jump, building a 14-12 lead after a quarter but Franklin fought back in the second including five points from sophomore Caden Sullivan, who was making his season debut. Junior Sean O’Leary got it going in the second half for the Panthers, scoring 14 of his team-high 18 points after the break. Carrying a 39-35 lead into the fourth, Bradley Herndon and Justin Allen hit key threes to keep Franklin ahead. Ben Harvey added 10 points for Franklin. Jamaal McConnell had a team-high 15 points for the Bulldogs, Zaza Francoeur added 13 points, and Matt Chafin finished with 10 points.

Girls Basketball = Franklin, 47 @ Canton, 41 – Final 

– Franklin avoided a big upset on Tuesday and moved into a first-place tie with Attleboro ahead of Friday’s showdown. Canton jumped out to a 14-9 lead after one. Mercia Kolokithas buried a pair of threes and Emily McCabe had one in the first to help the Bulldogs grab the early advantage. The Panthers were able to cut the deficit to one before halftime, but managed only 18 points in the opening 16 minutes. Franklin would grab a one-point lead in the third. Katie Peterson scored six of Franklin’s 12 points to make it 30-29 going to the fourth. In the final eight minutes, Franklin’s offense finally clicked and the Panthers scored 17 points. Peterson added four more, finishing with a team-high 17, and Chloe Fales added five of her 10 points. Samya DaSilva scored four of her five points in the fourth to help keep Canton close. The Bulldogs finished with eight three-pointers as a team. Kolokithas made five of them and she scored a team-high 17. Emily McCabe chipped in with seven points. Bridget Leo added seven for the Panthers.

Tri-County wrestler gains Sportsmanship Award at weekend tournament

"Teddy Connors, a grade 12 plumbing student, (who Co-Ops at alumni owned Aulenback Plumbing & Heating) captain of the wrestling team, received the Sportsmanship Award at the John D. Gorman tournament held in Cumberland, RI this weekend. He beat out 20 teams worth of wrestlers! "

Town of Franklin begins planning to update the Open Space and Recreation Plan (OSRP)

Explore Open Space and Recreation, meet our new OSRP friends!

The Town of Franklin has begun the process of updating the Open Space and Recreation Plan (OSRP) for the 2024 - 2031 update. An OSRP allows the town to strategize how to optimize, expand and improve open space and recreational facilities/ offerings by creating annual goals throughout a duration of 7 years.

To ensure the goals in the OSRP are reflective of resident priorities, we will facilitate a Comment and Feedback period through June 2023.

Residents are encouraged to explore our open space and recreation areas and be on the lookout for our friends Connor the Conservation Beaver and Ryan the Recreation Racoon! They'll be featured at select open space and recreational locations and they will be asking for your feedback to help us create the vision for Franklin's recreation and ecocentric spaces! This is one of the many ways the Town is supplementing the OSRP comment and feedback period which will run through 2023. Primary engagement is outlined below…

Public Engagement Opportunities	Timeline
OSRP Resident Survey: Residents participation in the survey will allow town staff to craft a vision for the OSRP that is reflective of resident priorities. The survey will be available digitally and physically at the 1st and 2nd public hearings.	February 2023 - April 2023
Public Hearing 1: Attendees will learn more about the Open Space and Recreation Plan, review the progress from the previous 2016 OSRP as well as review and provide feedback on the OSRP priorities drafted by town staff for the 2024 - 2031 OSRP.	February 2023
Public Hearing 2: Town staff will present the 2024 - 2031 OSRP goals and objectives based off of resident input from the first public hearing and other outreach mechanisms.	April 2023
Public Hearing 3: Town Staff will present a draft of the 2024 - 2031 OSRP that has been informed by additional resident input following the conclusion of the public hearing and other outreach mechanisms.	June 2023

Town of Franklin: Conservation Commission - Request for Determination of Applicability - Jan 26, 2023

Pursuant to Massachusetts General Laws Ch. 131, s.40 (The Wetlands Protection Act) Franklin Conservation Commission will hold a Hybrid Public Hearing on Thursday, January 26, 2022 at 7:05 PM on a Request for Determination of Applicability filed by JNJuhl & Associates, LLC of Franklin, MA to develop a 6.5 acre portion of site into Affordable Senior Housing in the Buffer Zone of Bordering Vegetated Wetlands (BVW). This project is located on Veterans Memorial Drive.

The hearing will provide an open forum for the discussion. This meeting will be done remotely via the “ZOOM” platform and “In-person” in the Council Chambers of the Municipal Building, 355 East Central Street. Residents can visit the Town Website (Franklinma.gov) and click on the Town Calendar for up to date information on how to access the meeting. 

All records and files for this project can be viewed at the Conservation Office located on the first floor of the Franklin Municipal Building.

Any person or organization so wishing will be afforded an opportunity to be heard. The hearing location is accessible to persons with physical disabilities. If you require a translator or accommodations for a hearing impairment, contact the Conservation Department at the Municipal Building or by calling (508) 520-4929.

Reminder: 

Monday, January 23, 2023 a new Franklin/Foxboro Line schedule will go into effect. This schedule adjustment will prevent train traffic between Readville & South Station after the opening of Pawtucket station (Prov Line) and offer improved on-time performance.

The new Franklin/Foxboro Line Winter schedule is now available online and in South Station or Back Bay.
