Franklin's Water Conservation Measures have ended for this 2024 calendar year

"Franklin Residents ~ In accordance with the Town’s Water Management Act Permit Water Conservation Restrictions have ENDED.
Residents are always encouraged to protect the future of our national and local water supply through water-efficient practices within your home and daily habits.
Please see our website for more information:
Thank you for your cooperation!"

Note: The operative word is "conservation."  These measures occur every year due to the state permit we have. A couple of times we have gone into the "water ban" status; once due to the fire at the well and another time due to drought conditions.

You can also hear about the water system from well to faucet in a 3-part podcast series  -> https://www.franklinmatters.org/2024/09/town-of-franklin-all-about-water-system.html

Town Council reopens hearing to approve the BJs-Pour Richard's transfer, hears of health care expense issue (audio)

FM #1274  This is the Franklin Matters radio show, number 1274 in the series.

This session shares the Franklin (MA) Town Council Meeting of Wednesday, Sep 4, 2024.  8 members were present in Council Chambers, Pellegri was absent.

Quick recap

  • A few appointments to close out the annual round of appointments. As announced in the August 14 meeting with the primary set of appointments, a few were in the process of being finalized. This should complete the slate of appointments to renew and fill the open slots for now.

  • Public hearing voted to re-open to review the prior BJs & Pour Richard's license transfers. The vote at the June 26 meeting was 6-3 to deny the approval. The denial was not based upon the 2 areas that such a denial could be made, hence the return for a review. Long story short, enough councilors got the message on the legal options and the transfers passed 5-3-1 (Cormier-Leger, Chandler, Dellorco voted no; Pellegri absent).

  • Pete Fasciano, Executive Director of Franklin TV provided an update on the operations.

  • Discussion on Right of Refusal for the Maplegate Country Club property. We can't afford it but will gain some revenue as the deal closes completely since they were "under taxed" and the owners will need to 'catch up'. The Council still needs to accept a resolution to formal pass on the purchase option

  • The Davis Thayer Reuse report was accepted by the Council. This will take time for the Council to work through the discussion to set up a possible RFP.

  • Health care issue raised will be part of the budget discussions going forward, have seen increase in 6-8 percent range prior years, anticipated increase of about 13%

Let’s listen to the meeting recording which runs just short of 3 hours.  Audio link ->  https://franklin-ma-matters.captivate.fm/episode/fm-1274-franklin-ma-town-council-mtg-09-04-24/

Pour Richard's countdown to transition begins

via Ann Williams, owner operator of Pour Richard's

"I got into this business because I love wine. And people. Specifically, I love matching up people I like with wines I like. One of the best ways to do that is to open bottles of wine and let people taste for themselves, because there is no better way to take someone out of their 'comfort zone' and get them to try something new.

When I envisioned the store, I thought I'd spend time tasting with suppliers (friends), to find products that I'd then sell to customers (friends). I thought I'd throw fun tastings and parties. And for 11+ years, I did exactly that. What I did not ever want to do: spend every waking moment talking to- or attempting to talk to- town officials. Sadly, that is exactly how I spent the last several months. Thankfully, we're done with all that.

Pour Richard's countdown to transition begins
countdown to transition begins
I am leaving Pour Richard's in the best of hands. I promise you, you will not be disappointed in this transition. I'm not going to disappear just yet, but we are beginning a (long) countdown. For our last few months, we can go back to the way things are supposed to be: a store full of fun products and fun people.

Fun events. Fun tastings. First off, we have Turn the Page: Introducing Corey B, where you can get a glimpse of the future of Pour Richard's. Then we have an All-Portugal event, with Tony & Augusto. Another 'Conversations' tasting, with Brendan Ferguson. And one with Matt Belanger. An Italian thing I'm plotting with George. Maybe a Pennywise, if I can fit it in? And one last blowout anniversary party (12!), scheduled for Saturday, Nov 16.

If my time here were a fireworks show, these next several weeks are the grand finale. Stay tuned; we intend to exit in high style."
