350 Mass Greater Franklin Node Meeting scheduled for January 2 at 7 PM

Hi all,

Our 350 Mass Greater Franklin node meeting will be held tomorrow (Thursday) night at 7 PM.

This will be both in-person and by Zoom, with the in-person meeting taking place at First Universalist Society in Franklin at 262 Chestnut Street at 7 PM. The purpose of the meeting will continue to be to review and discuss Monday's Statewide Campaign presentation to help guide us in determining our campaign focus for the foreseeable future.
350 Mass Greater Franklin Node
350 Mass Greater Franklin Node

With this additional time we would like all to view the YouTube video of the meeting in advance and take notes on questions and comments you come away with to input our group discussion at our meeting.  This will allow us to expedite viewing of the otherwise 2 hour long video in our meeting, allowing us to simply focus on those portions of greatest import. Here is
a link to the YouTube presentation.

We will share a screen in Zoom to show the YouTube presentation for everyone during our showing, allowing us to pause to discuss points.  Sometimes Zoom running a YouTube video can be a bit choppy. If it doesn't work for you, you can run the recording directly using the link we've provided.

If you can come but you'll be late, that's OK. We'd rather you come if you can. And while the meeting will be hybrid, both in-person and Zoom, it is preferable to be in person for a full-fledged discussion.

Meeting Zoom link:

Meeting ID: 819 3030 4274    Passcode: 350ma
Dial-in +1 646 876 9923

We will hold our Holiday Party on our Thursday, January 16 meeting, at which time we will finalize our feedback to the Statewide Steering Team for their Wednesday, February 5, meeting to vote on statewide campaign(s).

We hope this works for you all.

Please join us Thursday 7 PM!

With gratitude,
Carolyn and Steve

Welcome to 2025 - What will your top topic be for this year?

What will your top topic be for 2025?

I suspect that a few of the “Watch List” items from last year will return:

  • The budget for FY 2026 is one of the top ones. We start with about a $4M deficit and unless there is an override, balancing the budget means significant cuts to people and services.

  • Housing and managing our growth smartly needs to be front and center. This goes hand in hand (or pocket to pocket) with the budget.

  • The Master Plan is up for approval to guide our next 10 years. This is another way of looking at the budget and growth issues as the Master Plan prescribes how we'll grow.

  • The school district will continue to develop the implementation plan for the redistricting that begins in September 2025. While there is minimal budgetary savings this year, it is supposed to better position the district to be more effective going forward. Reducing from 9 schools to 7 schools (in 5 buildings) brings economies not available in the prior structure.

What else would you put on this listing of items to watch (and engage with) this year?

"Franklin had their second meet of the season tonight and came up with a W!!
We had such a blast competing against North Attleboro great team energy great crowd and fun atmosphere!! North was also competing against KP and having all the teams there especially where so many of them workout in the same club or during off season together, made it even more fun cheering each other on!! Final score FHS 118.25 NAHS 117.8 such a close match!!

Kendra Love was a strong AA putting up 3 of the teams highest scores in Bars, Beam and Floor. Ciara O'Brien debuting as an AA, putting up the second highest in 3 of her 4 events in Vault, Bars and Floor. First year Veronica Pimentel still proving to be consistent with her scores counting on both Floor and Vault. First year Chrissy Beaupre also made her debut coming back from injury competing strong and clean on beam with her score counting towards our team score. Senior Captains Molly Chandler and Bella Jacoby continue to do their job landing their skills being consistent and contributing their scores to our overall team score. Highlight scores tied on Vault Ciara and Molly C with 8.3, Kendra on Floor with an 8.35.

The team continues to come together, working hard and making progress. Pictured below are all the athletes who compete in the same gym or workout together in the off season in some capacity."

Boston Globe: "State spent $8 million on mail-in voting"

"Just less than half of the roughly 3.5 million voters who cast a ballot in November’s elections here did so in person on Election Day, Secretary of State William Galvin’s office said in a new report on the roughly $8 million costs associated with the popular vote-by-mail option.

The report filed with the Legislature this month details many of the costs connected to Galvin’s responsibilities as chief elections officer for the state, and the requirements of the 2022 law that allows voters to cast their ballots by mail or during a dedicated early voting window.

Not counting the costs of printing ballots and envelopes, assembling ballot kits and reimbursing local election officials for unfunded mandates, Galvin said the vote-by-mail effort cost a little more than $8 million ($8,005,676.43 to be precise), including nearly $2 million in postage for voters to return ballots, for the September primaries and November’s general election."
