Fallen Hero Recognition: Lloyd M. Ellis - June 12, 2025 - 9 AM

There is a Fallen Hero Recognition event today (6/12/25) at 9 AM on the Town Common Veterans Walkway to honor Private First Class Lloyd M. Ellis, U.S. Army. 

This program will include the placing of a Memorial Wreath for the day, the playing of Taps, a salute from those present, and a reading of whatever history  may be available for that veteran.  This is a way of keeping the memory of that veteran alive.

Fallen Hero: Private First Class Lloyd M. Ellis, U.S. Army

Private First Class Lloyd M. Ellis, U.S. Army, born on December 8, 1921, was the son of Charles and Margaret Ellis, of 730 Union Street. For many years, Lloyd made his home here in Franklin with Mr. and Mrs. Warren Thayer of Fales Street. Lloyd attended the Franklin Schools and was graduated from Franklin High School in 1939 where he was a popular and talented member of his class.  

On November 14, 1942 Lloyd married the former Dorothy Brown of Franklin and he was employed as a machinist up until the time he entered the service of his country on September 13, 1943. After training, PFC Lloyd M. Ellis was sent overseas for combat in March of 1944.  

Private First Class Lloyd M. Ellis was killed in action in France on June 12, 1944 during the height of the battle following the American invasion of that country.  

Private First Class Lloyd M. Ellis was 22 years old at the time of his death during the invasion of France against the German forces.

Join us in the heart of downtown Franklin for one of the community’s most beloved events — the Franklin Downtown Partnership’s Strawberry Stroll! On June 13th, 4-8pm, Main Street will be buzzing [and expanded up to Dean College to help connect with the Franklin Farmers' Market] with live music, local vendors, family-friendly activities, and of course, fresh strawberry shortcake served up with hometown pride.

Join the Franklin Cultural Council, Franklin Cultural District Committee and the Department of Arts, Culture and the Creative Economy at the ‘Franklin Cultural Hub’ — your pop-up creative space at this year’s Strawberry Stroll (set up near the Franklin Public Library)—for a hands-on community art activity celebrating Franklin’s unique history and artistic spirit!

Led by Jessica, our Department of Arts, Culture, and the Creative Economy intern, visitors of all ages are invited to paint one of over 50 adorable ladybug garden stepping stones. After the event, Jess will varnish the stones and we’ll install them at the Sculpture Park alongside the beloved Fairy Houses, creating a whimsical, walkable trail of community-made art.

These wines are produced from grapes grown on the estate vineyards at Merriam Estate and Windacre Vineyard in the Russian River Valley. In the vineyard, they allow the vines to thrive by keeping intervention to a minimum so as not to interfere in the natural growing process. The 21-acre estate is certified organic by the California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF).

Massachusetts “No Kings” Rallies on June 14

Thousands of Protesters Will Take to the Streets to Stand Up to the Authoritarian Excesses of the Trump Administration In Boston and 90 other Massachusetts locales: 

On Saturday, June 14, Indivisible Mass Coalition (IMC), Mass. Indivisible Groups, and Allies will join forces with groups across the country to hold “No Kings” rallies to stand up against the authoritarian excesses of the Trump administration. IMC, Massachusetts 50501, and numerous Indivisible groups and allies will hold approximately 100 rallies across the Commonwealth in locations including Boston, Worcester, Springfield, Northampton, Greenfield, Pittsfield, Hyannis, and many more, to oppose all the unconstitutional actions of the Trump administration.

MA “No Kings” Rallies on June 14

Donald Trump is appropriating Flag Day for a massive military parade that will waste $150 million of taxpayer dollars to support his authoritarianism. Meanwhile, Trump’s budget will cut $1 Trillion from Medicaid, Medicare, and SNAP benefits, endangering the lives and health of millions of Americans. And Trump’s immigration forces continue to abduct law-abiding residents and even citizens and send them to prison. In response, Americans are fighting back against Trump’s attack on our institutions, our economy, our values, especially the U.S. Constitution, and our planet. Organizers for “No Kings” estimate that the combined crowds at the 1,700 nationwide events will surpass the numbers at the “Hands Off” protests in April. 

In Boston, IMC, Swing Blue Alliance, and Mass 50501 are folding their events into Boston Pride. IMC will be marching in the Pride Parade as part of “No Kings” and to support LGBTQ+ allies, and is hosting a booth at the festival on the Common. Across the state many groups have organized local marches and rallies. Events vary by location.

WHAT:  “No Kings” Rallies

WHO:  Indivisible Mass Coalition and many other Indivisible groups and allies.  

PLANS:  At the Boston Pride Parade B-Vocal is joining IMC in the march and singing,  and Swing Blue Alliance plans some creative resistance and street theater presentations. Elected officials such as Rep. Seth Moulton will be in Swampscott , and Rep. Lori Trahan will be in Chelmsford. At the many other rallies there will be marches, speakers, presentations, and completely peaceful actions.

This past Saturday (June 7), 170 young riders participated in the PMC Kids Ride in Franklin, coming together to support the fight against cancer. 

Riders have already raised $35,000, 100% of which goes directly to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

This Saturday, June 14 at 11:30 AM, MasterPeace Dog Training will be hosting its first-ever Service Dog Graduation Ceremony. We’ll be celebrating the incredible journey of our first two graduates, Luna and Nalah, who have completed over two years of intensive training and are now fully certified service dogs.

This event also commemorates the life and legacy of Mike Masters the co-founder of MasterPeace Dog Training who was a disabled man with a service dog. This ceremony marks the 10th anniversary of his passing, and we are honored to dedicate it in his memory.
