Mansfield rallies past Franklin to take D1 title

The Boston Globe provides the write up on the Mansfield victory for the D1 boys basketball Championship.
"After years of knocking on the door, the Mansfield boys’ basketball team finally broke through for an MIAA Division 1 state championship.
Mansfield lost in the South sectional final in 2015 and 2017 and fell in overtime to Springfield Putnam in the 2013 state title game.
But on Saturday at the MassMutual Center, the Hornets earned that elusive state title in sweet fashion by outlasting Hockomock League rival Franklin, 67-54, to close their season on a 20-game winning streak."

RMV will be closed March 23-25 for a system upgrade

From the Milford Daily News, articles of interest for Franklin:
"Signs along the Mass Pike announced this weekend that the Registry of Motor Vehicles will close temporarily March 23-25 while it switches to a new computer system.
Services, other than law enforcement, will be unavailable from 7 p.m. Thursday, March 22, until 8 a.m. Monday, March 26, including motor vehicle inspections, registry online services and in-person services at registry and AAA locations. On its website, the RMV said it will not process any transactions during this time.
This means all Massachusetts inspection stations, including auto dealerships, cannot perform vehicle inspections on March 23, 24 and 25.
The new computer system will replace the current one, which is more 30 years old. It will also allow the registry to issue federally mandated REAL ID credentials, which allow some members of the public to use a driver’s license as federal identification."

“Best Buddies is so fun and I recommend it to anyone"

From the Milford Daily News, articles of interest for Franklin:

"The beautiful ladies and dapper gentlemen of the Franklin Best Buddies flaunted their gowns and suits during the promenade on Friday night, just a short time before the real dancing began.
This year’s prom took place at the Franklin Elks Lodge and was, as always, a bonding experience and great success with about 80 students in attendance.
Best Buddies is an international organization dedicated to ending the stigma towards those with intellectual and developmental disabilities by pairing them up with people without disabilities for outings and events like the Best Buddies Prom.
“It’s to give them an opportunity like every other high schooler,” said Miriam Connolly, adviser for Best Buddies. “Honestly, it’s a ball. They dance and dance. My typical students will tell me they have more fun at this than the other prom.”

"It has been a rivalry for the ages"

The Boston Globe Sports page provides a good preview of the FHS vs Mansfield game for the State D1 Championship

"This isn’t their mid-January meeting in Franklin (Panthers, BTW, 67-52). Or the rematch in early February on the court in Mansfield (Hornets, 59-47), though the intensity is never lacking for any of their Hockomock League regular-season clashes.
No, Saturday night’s showdown (5:45 p.m.) at the MassMutual Center in Springfield will be the ultimate rubber match for the Franklin and Mansfield boys’ basketball teams.
In their third meeting of 2017-18, the Hornets and the Panthers will battle for the MIAA Division 1 championship, a plaque that has been elusive for both programs."
