FHS boys hockey team to play Sunday night 3/10 at 6;15 PM
The 2019 MIAA Boys Ice Hockey Division 1 South bracket worked its way to two teams to play in the final game on Sunday at Bourne Arena. The FHS team is scheduled to play Duxbury when the puck drops at 6:15 PM.

FHS girls hockey close out season with 5-2 loss to Andover in D1 quarterfinals

Girls Hockey = Division 1 = #5 Franklin, 2 @ #4 Andover, 5 – Final
– Franklin and Andover traded leads in the first and second periods, but the Warriors scored three unanswered in the final period to get the win. Cassi Ronan put Franklin ahead with a goal in the first period but Andover scored two straight to begin the second to make it 2-1. Ronan scored her second of the game to knot it 2-2 after two periods. Andover scored a shorthanded goal in the first minute, added a fourth midway through the third, and iced it with an empty net goal.

Franklin Annual Report - 2018: Recreation Department
The Recreation Department is now located at 275 Beaver Street, Franklin MA 02038. The Recreation Department offers Franklin residents a variety of programs and activities for youth and adults, as well as coordination of youth sports organizations field use. The department operates and schedules activities for Beaver Pond, Fletcher Field, Dennis Pisani Field, Henry “Ski” Faenza Tot Lot (Nason Street Tot Lot), King Street Memorial Field, Dacey Community Field, and the Meadowlark Lane fields.
The department is also responsible for scheduling the use of all school athletic fields. Our department works closely with the various town youth sports organizations and Athletic Director Tom Angelo to schedule all youth sports activities around the high school team practices and games.
Chilson Beach
Chilson Beach was open from June 24-August 18, 2017 with a swim at your own risk policy. No lifeguards were on duty. However, we staffed the beach with gate guards to check for residency as the beach remains Franklin residents only. The pond was home to canoeing, kayaking, swimming, fishing, and hiking. For information on Chilson Beach and our water testing results, please visit:

On the turf field at Beaver Pond, we continue to permit soccer, field hockey, flag football, Pop Warner football and boy’s lacrosse. The turf field was used for the Franklin Recreation Department’s NFL Flag football, Franklin Pop Warner football, Franklin Youth Soccer, and Franklin youth boys lacrosse, as well as yoga for senior citizens, tai chi, boot camp, and many other recreational activities. A portable recycled plastic walkway is on site for handicap accessibility to the water edge and playground area.
The Franklin High School soccer, lacrosse and field hockey programs play all of their home games on the turf field as well. At the time of this publication, the turf field was being resurfaced.

Local fifth grader to appear in FPAC’s Seussical
Franklin’s Julian DiChiara is set to appear as JoJo in the Franklin Performing Arts Company (FPAC) production of Seussical running March 9,10, 15, 16, and 17 at THE BLACK BOX in downtown Franklin. DiChiara is a fifth grader at Oak Street Elementary and studies singing, acting, and dancing at the Franklin School for the Performing Arts.
Even at his young age, DiChiara is no stranger to the stage. Earlier this season, he played Les in FPAC’s sold out run of Disney’s Newsies where he appeared with Broadway’s Christopher Rice (The Book of Mormon) and was choreographed by Chaz Wolcott (Newsies, So You Think You Can Dance, Cats).
He was also seen in the children’s choir of FPAC’s Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (10 DASH Award nominations) and in their original holiday panto Alice in a Winter Wonderland as Tweedle Dee. At the Franklin School for the Performing Arts, DiChiara has had roles in The Wizard of Oz, Bring It, and The Government Inspector. He also performs locally with the ensemble “Future Shock.”
Seussical is a perfect musical for the whole family. Tony winners, Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty have lovingly brought to life Dr. Seuss favorites including Horton the Elephant, The Cat in the Hat, Gertrude McFuzz, Mayzie, and a little boy with a big imagination – Jojo (played by DiChiara). The colorful characters transport the audience from the Jungle of Nool, to the Circus McGurkus, to the invisible world of the Whos.
Tickets for Seussical are available at www.fpaconline.com or by calling the box office at 508-528-3370. THE BLACK BOX is located at 15 W. Central St. in downtown Franklin.

On this date: Mar 8, 2013: Downtown Project finally getting to bid
Stepping back into the archives for March 8, 2013 we find that the Downtown Project is about to go to bid in the fall. Yes, hard to believe is has already re-routed traffic for a couple of years now. It took a while to prepare for and really didn't take that long to complete once it started.

The Downtown Project is making some planning progress as reported in the Milford Daily News:
"Almost ten years in the making, the project aims to bring business back to the heart of town, in part through several cosmetic and safety improvements.
Construction — slated to begin next fall after the project goes out to bid in August — will include: converting one-way traffic on Main Street and West Central Street to two-way; fixing roadways and sidewalks; upgrading lighting; and installing interconnected traffic signals and calming devices.
With a total length of more than a mile, the work, the bulk of which should wrap up in the spring of 2014, will encompass a large swath of the downtown."
