Raise a Glass with the Downtown Partnership at Pour Richard's
The Franklin Downtown Partnership invites the public to Pour Richard's Wine and Spirits for a wine and beer tasting party on Tuesday, May 7. Come mingle with friends old and new while sampling a variety of beverages and learning about Pour Richard's unique products. Try your luck with a chance to win raffle prizes and hear about the FDP's plans for downtown Franklin.
The fundraiser will take place at Pour Richard's new location, 14 Grove Street, Franklin, from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 and proceeds will help to support the Partnership's Beautification efforts and downtown events. Dean Bank and Next Step Living will sponsor the event. Raffle prizes include items donated by Jane's Frames and Emma's Quilt Cupboard.
"Pour Richard's is a unique new business in Franklin and we invite everyone to come experience something different," says Lisa Piana, FDP executive director. "We hope to bring the community together to support our downtown revitalization efforts, and this is a fun way for residents and business owners to learn more about the Partnership's goals."
Money raised at this tasting evening will be used to support on-going beautification efforts and the downtown events, including the Strawberry Festival on June 13th. The Partnership, the Franklin Garden Club and many volunteers plant more than 1,200 colorful flowers downtown each spring, and hang wreaths and greenery for the holidays. This year's spring Beautification Day will be Saturday, May 18.

With approximately 1 percent of 2,901 registered voters casting ballots in Franklin, Steven Lynch topped the ticket for the Democrats and Gabriel Gomez for the Republicans. Totals are as follows:
Democrats: Lynch: 988 Markey: 907
Republicans: Gomez: 466 Sullivan: 287 Winslow: 249
Note: the sentence would be better written as "with 2,901 or approximately 1 percent of the registered voters casting ballots in Franklin" The election did draw 2,901 voters. There are over 20,000 registered voters.

Tuesday’s primary election for the U.S. Senate was a study in contrasts as Democrats chose a 36-year congressman running on his record and GOP voters backed a political novice promising to be a new breed of Republican.

Franklin Beautification Day slated
The Franklin Downtown Partnership and the Franklin Garden Club are seeking volunteers and donations for the 10th annual Beautification Day on May 18.
The nation's first lending library may require more than $2 million in building upgrades, including a new HVAC system.

Earth Day, every day
Franklin celebrated Earth Day on Saturday with a coordinated clean up effort. Bags and sanitary gloves were provided to help with the sweat and effort that the many volunteers brought to the event. Coffee and donuts to start, pizza at the finish.
I talked with Ryan Jette about the turnout and he was pleased. Those who helped got a t-shirt.
Good weather for the day, what more could you ask for?
I was there towards the end but before everyone else had returned for the pizza so this pile is only a sample of the good work done around town. There is more to be done which is one reason why the t-shirt says "Earth day, every day."
In addition to picking up trash, tree seedlings were available for planting. Ron Clough shared his insight by saying: "Do you know how to tell which seedlings are dogwood trees? You can tell by looking at the bark!"
As with most things, a little humor goes a long way.

The goal is to get every town in Massachusetts to join," said Gagnon, who started recruiting for Franklin’s chapter early last summer.
As chapter leader, Gagnon’s job is to schedule volunteers when new requests roll in. Depending on the circumstances, their work takes on many forms, from shopping for groceries to cleaning a home to preparing dinner.
For instance, Gagnon has volunteers aiding a 37-year-old mother who’s preparing to undergo cancer treatment. They will help the woman’s family for two months while she recovers.
"We need everything covered so the family can go on in a somewhat normal way," Gagnon said. "We are going to do weekly house cleaning and whatever else comes about. I have volunteers set up to go in there each Tuesday for two to three hours.

Kennedy: Recycling Day Fundraiser
J. F. Kennedy Elementary School PCC and Cub Scout Pack 126 Recycling Day Fundraiser - The J. F. Kennedy Parent Communication Council (PCC) and Cub Scout Pack 126 have joined together to sponsor a Recycling Day Fundraiser on Saturday, May 18 from 9 am -12 pm at the Kennedy Elementary School Parking lot at 551 Pond St., Franklin.
Please bring clean redeemable soda, seltzer, beer bottles and cans. Please, no water bottles, trash or regular recyclables.
A vendor will be on-site to accept computers, electronics and appliances for recycling. The vendor will erase all hard drives.
Fees for recycling, CASH payment only. $5 for Cameras – Photo and Video, Computer Mice, Computer Accessories and Keyboards, Phones, Walkmans, CD Players; $10 for Computer Monitors, CPU’S, Servers, Drives and Disks, Laptops, Fax Machines, Printers, Scanners, UPS Systems, DVD and VCR Players, Home Stereo Equipment; $15 for Microwaves, Air Conditioners, Refrigerators, Freezers, Dehumidifiers, Hot Water Heaters, Heaters and Stoves, Washers and Dryers, Dishwashers. Special Pricing for TV’s: in plastic cases under 27” - $17, in plastic cases over 27” - $25, in wood cases - $25, projection TV’s - $30.
