FHS masking policy reverts to "Required" as of Dec 17th as positivity rate jumps past 4%

Dear FHS Community,
We have an update regarding our positivity rate within the Franklin community. We learned, through a conversation with the Franklin Health Department today, that our 14-day % positivity rate is 4.24% and we anticipate that this value is going to be reported in the MA DPH COVID dashboard tomorrow evening.
As an adjustment we will be encouraging all vaccinated students and staff to wear masks tomorrow Thursday, December 16th. As you know, unvaccinated students and staff are required to wear masks.
We will be returning to the school committee’s policy mandate that all students and staff wear masks beginning Friday, December 17th, regardless of vaccination status.
This mandate will be in place as long as our 14-day % positivity rate is above 4%. I can appreciate the varied responses to this message and would like to welcome anyone with any questions to email me directly.

During the "business" part, before we can party and enjoy one another's company, we'll review the legislative agenda and status of Committee hearings currently taking place at the State House (see below, "Massachusetts Action"). We'll also discuss local and national developments and opportunities for individual and organizational action.

Massachusetts Action: The House and Senate committees are actively reviewing the many bills proposed for the current 2021-22 session. This is a critical time to support 350 Mass' top three priority bills. We are asking everyone to contact your legislators via phone or email or, preferably, with a meeting between now and early January, to encourage them to cosponsor these bills. For constituents of Rep. Jeff Roy (Democrat, Franklin, and Chairperson, Joint Committee on Telecommunications, Utilities and Energy), the Node is working on setting up a meeting with him; if you'd like to participate, let us know by replying to this email. If you'd like to learn about all the bills that we support, you can find information sheets here.
National Action: President Biden went ahead with the largest offshore drilling lease sale in US history, auctioning off millions of acres in the Gulf of Mexico to Big Oil, even though they were not legally required to do so. Read about it here. But there's still time to act. Call 866-834-8040 as soon as possible and demand that the Department of the Interior stop the sale! Learn about the organized opposition here.
Hold-The-Date for our next Node meeting, January 6, 2022.
All of 350 Mass' nodes are working hard to promote and achieve the organization's priorities, as defined in our Campaign "Bringing the Green New Deal Home" and its three components focused on Buildings, Transportation, and Energy. At our first meeting of the new year, Thursday, January 6th, 7:00 pm, we will focus on the first component, "Building the Green New Deal," that is, requiring that new buildings be efficient and non-emitting, and retrofitting existing buildings, including insulation, energy-efficient appliances, and replacing fossil-fuel heating systems with non-polluting (electric) ones. These changes will occur via legislation, individual consumer choices, and policies and programs adopted by cities and towns. This will be an all-hands-on-deck effort. We ask all of you to join the January 6th virtual meeting to learn about the campaign, share information about groups and activities in your community, and help us plan and implement this campaign. We will send out more information prior to January 6th, and we ask your help in publicizing this important meeting. Thank you.

FHS girls hockey team along with both boys and girls basketball teams post wins on Tuesday
Via HockomockSports.com and Twitter, we share the results of the FHS winter sports action on Tuesday
Boys Basketball = Franklin, 62 @ Canton, 50 – Final
– Franklin overcame a hot start and a first quarter deficit to pick up a win over Canton on the road. The Bulldogs hit five threes in the opening quarter for an 18-15 lead but the Panthers clamped down in the second to hold the hosts to six points to grab a 29-24 lead by the break. The Panthers extended their lead to eight (44-36) after 24 minutes and closed it out with a big final quarter to get the win.
Sophomore Henry Digiorgio poured in a carer-high 27 points, scoring 12 in the first half and hitting three three-points in the fourth to cement the win. Sophomore Andrew O’Neill added 11 of his career-high 14 points in the second half for his varsity debut. Canton junior Matt Chafin finished with a career-high 16 points to lead Canton while Conor Hunter accounted for four of the Bulldogs’ 10 three-pointers for 12 points.
Girls Basketball = Canton, 47 @ Franklin, 67 – Final
– Franklin extended its win streak to 36 games with a big win in the opener. Katie Peterson was the top scorer for the hosts with 18 points and Stefany Padula had 16, including four threes. Kiara Cerruti kicked off her senior season with a game-high 21 points, including 14 in the second half, for the Bulldogs. Canton led 12-11 after the first quarter, but the Panthers turned it around with a 22-9 second to grab the lead for good.
Leading by 13 going into the fourth, Franklin scored 20 points in the final eight minutes to push the lead. Bridget Leo scored 12 points and Olivia Quinn and Brigid Earley each had seven for the Panthers. Sydney Gallery scored seven, all in the second half, and Samya DaSilva added five for the Bulldogs.

HENRY DIGIORGIO, SOPHOMORE – FRANKLIN
"Franklin will be in need of some new players to step on the offensive end after graduating its top three scorers from last year, all three averaging double figures. One player that is a potential candidate to take on an expanded role is sophomore Henry Digiorgio. Digiorgio made a splash on varsity last season as a freshman. The sample size at the varsity level is relatively small, but he showed what he’s capable of, scoring 15 points in the season opener a year ago. That trend continued this year as he dropped a career-high 27 points in a season-opening win over Canton. He’s certainly one to watch from beyond the three-point line but his game goes beyond just shooting. The challenge this year will be scoring at a consistent level throughout the season against some of the top defenses around."

Community Preservation Committee - Public Hearing #1 - Jan 4, 2022
Community Preservation Committee - Public Hearing #1
The Franklin Community Preservation Committee will hold two public hearings, Hearing #1 on Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at 7:10 P.M. and Hearing #2, Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at 7:10pm. These informational hearings will involve a discussion of Franklin’s needs, possibilities and resources regarding community preservation and the use of Community Preservation Act (CPA) funds to address these issues, as permitted by the CPA.
This meeting will be held in person in the Council Chambers, 2nd Floor, Municipal Building at 355 East Central Street and remotely via the “ZOOM” platform. Residents can visit the Town Website (Franklinma.gov) and click on the Town Calendar for up to date information on how to access the meeting. If you have any questions, please call the Town Administrator’s Office at (508) 520-4949.
