Fallen Hero Recognition: Emilio Dadario, October 10, 2024 - 9 AM

Memorial event today (10/10/24) at 9 AM on the Town Common Veterans Walkway to honor Emilio Dadario

The brief program will include
  • the placing of a Memorial Wreath for the day
  • the playing of Taps
  • a salute from those present
  • a reading of whatever history  may be available for that veteran
This is a way of keeping the memory of that veteran alive.

The program is conducted on the Franklin Town Common along the Veterans Walkway by the granite column of the individual being remembered on the day of their recorded passing.

------------

Emilio Dadario, Private, US Army,  WWI

Emilio Daddario was born in Ofena, Italy in 1895 of Mr. & Mrs. Dominico Daddario. He lived in Franklin for about 17 years before he answered the call to defend his new nation.

He entered the service on September 20, 1917, and was assigned to Company F, 302nd Infantry Regiment, 76th Division, and shipped overseas on March 12, 1918.

Among other responsibilities, Emilio was the company bugler, a duty of which he was very proud.

On the battlefield, he served in Company K, 28th Infantry, 1st Division and was killed on this date in 1918.

10th Norfolk District Debate - 10/08/24 between State Rep Jeff Roy & Charles Bailey (audio)

FM #1286 = This is the Franklin Matters radio show, number 1286 in the series.

State Representative Jeff Roy met his challenger Charles Bailey in a debate on Tuesday October 8, 2024 at the Medway Middle School. The debate was arranged and hosted jointly by the Republican and Democratic Town Committees of both Medway and Franklin.

The debate was live streamed by Medway to their cable subscribers as well as to Facebook. Franklin likewise broadcast to their cable subscribers and to YouTube.

After a brief delay to allow for a technical issue to be resolved as well as the Medway Fire Chief to allow additional participants, as the room capacity (50) had been met, the debate began and lasted just about an hour.

The recording runs about 60 minutes, so let’s listen in. Audio link -> https://franklin-ma-matters.captivate.fm/episode/fm-1286-10th-norfolk-district-debate-10-08-24/

Your input requested for this "Franklin Budget Investments" survey

"This is requesting residents opinions on whether we are spending too much or too little on various parts of the budget. It does not include all of the budget. This is intended to be if we had all the money we as a town needed to properly fund everything, what is at a stable amount, what have we put too much in, and where have we neglected.

It also requests opinions on what school fees should be.

While this is not sponsored or created by any Franklin Town government committee, the results will be shared with the School Committee, FinComm, Town Council and the Joint Budget Subcommittee.

Thank you for your input!"

Cinema 80: Silent Saturday - "The General"

`CINEMA 80’

Silent Saturday - "The General"
Silent Saturday - "The General"
After a well-received experimental run from January to May at the Franklin Historical Museum, Cinema 80, captained by videographer and cinephile Chris Leverone, is back for another season of amazing free `Silent Saturday’ silent film entertainment on Saturdays at 6 PM. The program is free but donations are encouraged.

  • The General – Buster Keaton outdoes himself with non-stop action and comedy, loosely based on a real incident in the American Civil War. It has insane chase scenes involving lots of trains, horses, and soldiers and timings that keep audiences on the edge of their seats.

After the movie, Chris Leverone responds to questions about the film and often the era in which the film is set.

Regional Tree Planting & Protection Plan Webinar - Oct 23

Regional Tree Planting  & Protection Plan Webinar

Virtually on October 23 at 7 PM

Massachusetts has lost over 3.5% of its tree cover
Massachusetts has lost over 3.5% of its tree cover

Trees are one of our greatest climate solutions––providing cooler neighborhoods, clean air, flood mitigation, cleaner water, and mental health benefits––yet our watershed is losing tree canopy at an alarming rate. Since 2000, Massachusetts has lost over 3.5% of its tree cover. Regional planning will help maximize the benefits of existing trees, help protect mature trees from invasive species, and identify new opportunities for tree planting to build a robust, healthy tree canopy.

Join the Charles River Watershed Association (CRWA) and Franklin Conservation Department, a Charles River Climate Compact Member, on October 23 at 7 PM to hear about the state of tree canopy across the watershed and our work with the Climate Compact that helps municipalities protect, maintain, and grow our tree canopy.

Attention Middle & High School Students: Join the Pantry Elves and Help Raise Funds for the Franklin Food Pantry

The Franklin Food Pantry, which provides supplemental food and household necessities, invites middle and high school students to volunteer for the Pantry Elves campaign!
Attention Middle & High School Students: Join the Pantry Elves and Help Raise Funds for the Franklin Food Pantry
Join the Pantry Elves
Since 2005, hundreds of students have participated in this holiday-inspired campaign, which has evolved into one of The Pantry’s largest fundraising events of the year. The annual campaign has been instrumental in raising funds to fight food insecurity during the holiday season and throughout the year.

This year, Pantry Elves will fundraise electronically from their friends and family members and will not canvass neighborhoods. Donations, which will be used to purchase fresh produce, dairy, meats and proteins, and household necessities, will be sent directly to The Pantry.

Pantry Elves registration is open through December 2, 2024, and volunteers will receive 12 hours of community service.

To register, visit www.franklinfoodpantry.org/get-involved/volunteer/pantryelves, or contact Jen Johnson, Development Associate Franklin Food Pantry, at jjohnson@franklinfoodpantry.org.
