Volunteers stil looked for to help with Beautification Day, May 17

The Franklin Downtown Partnership and Franklin Garden Club are gearing up for Beautification Day on Saturday, May 17. Volunteers are needed to prepare downtown Franklin for the spring season. Roll up your sleeves and dig in. Many hands are needed to help plant a variety of flowers on the bridges, barrels and boxes in front of the businesses.

Volunteers with trucks, please meet at 7:30 AM at Fairmount Fruit Farm at 887 Lincoln Street to pick up trays of flowers and deliver downtown. If you don’t have a truck, arrive by 8:00 AM at the public parking lot near the bridge in front of The Rome restaurant. Bring work gloves, rakes and garden tools, if you can.

The committee also needs volunteers to water the plants for the season. There are 18 weeks of watering needed throughout the summer months. Pick the weeks that work for you. To volunteer to plant on May 17th , contact Eileen Mason at eileenmason@remax.net  To volunteer to water this summer, email Sandy Sauer at sandy@franklintilecarpetone.com, or call her at 508-733-8929.

"Our goal is to give people something to smile about as they drive through our historic downtown and maybe just make their day a little better," said Eileen Mason, Beautification Day Chairperson. Franklin Downtown Partnership Executive Director, Lisa Piana, appreciates the many people who come together to make this a success. “The Partnership is very grateful to Eileen Mason, Sandy Sauer, the Franklin Garden Club, the DPW and the many members of our community who volunteer to make our center beautiful for the spring and summer."

FHS girls tennis team tops Sharon on Tuesday

Via Twitter, Franklin TV, and our subscription to HockomockSports.com, we share the results of the Spring sports competition for Franklin High School on Tuesday, May 13, 2025

Boys Tennis = Franklin, 0 @ Sharon, 5 – Final
– In its first season competing in the division, Sharon clinched its first-ever Kelley-Rex crown with a 5-0 sweep against Franklin, taking all five matches straight sets. It’s the Eagles sixth straight after winning five Davenport division titles in a row dating back to 2019. Senior Jacob Slavsky didn’t drop a game in a double-bagel 6-0, 6-0 first singles win, freshman Sri Piratla earned a 6-1, 6-3 win at second singles, and junior Isaac Chen grabbed a 6-0, 6-2 verdict at third singles. Senior Joel Zwicker and sophomore Avaneesh Mohan moved up to first doubles and controlled the match from start to finish, taking a 6-2, 6-1 win. Sophomore Alex Pinnix teamed up with freshman Anish Reddy and picked up a 6-3, 6-2 win at second doubles for the Eagles.

Girls Tennis = Sharon, 2 @ Franklin, 3 – Final
– Franklin earned a crucial win at home, handing Sharon its first league loss of the season and keeping its title hopes alive going into the final stretch of the season. Senior Izzy Trull had a dominant performance at second singles, dropping just one game in a 6-1, 6-0 win while junior Isabella Simino did the same at third singles with a 6-0, 6-1 victory. The Panthers added a second doubles victory for the third point as junior Avalon Thomes and freshman Anna Powers grabbed a 6-1, 6-3 victory to clinch the win. Sharon senior Heather Hou prevailed from a tight battle at first singles with a 7-6, 6-2 win. The first doubles match featured two of the top doubles teams in the Hock, and it was apparent on the court. Sharon’s team of senior Olivia Landstein and sophomore Heather Hou bounced back from dropping the first set to Franklin’s Brooke Daniels and Sydney Tolonen to win the second in a tiebreak and then won the third set super tiebreak to get the point (4-6, 7-6, 10-6).
