FHS boys soccer tops Foxboro on Wednesday

Via Twitter, Franklin TV, and our subscription to HockomockSports.com, we share the results of the Fall sports competition for Franklin High School on Wednesday, Sep 10, 2025

Boys Soccer = Foxboro, 0 @ Franklin, 3 – Final

Franklin TV video is available for replay -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2U5xsFYOM3k

Girls Soccer = Franklin, 2 @ Foxboro, 3 – Final
– Foxboro rallied from a goal down twice and freshman Brenna Turner delivered the go-ahead goal 10 minutes into the second half to lift the Warriors to the upset and their first win of the season. Franklin got the first goal, but Foxboro quickly equalized. Kennedy Maling teed up Shea Dorney for a shot from just outside the box (her second goal in as many games) to make it 1-1. The Panthers regained the advantage and went into halftime in front. Less than a minute into the second half, Maling slipped a through ball to Ava Picard, who was fouled in the box. Picard converted the penalty to make it 2-2. Ten minutes later, Turner won the ball in midfield and fired a shot over the keeper’s head for what turned out to be the winner. Foxboro’s defense held out for the final half hour, Keira D’Arcy, Ashley Goldstein, Mia Flanagan, and Ella Carton had impressive performances and Julia Luck backed them up by making several key saves.

Golf = Franklin, 154 vs. BC High, 149 – Final

Jazz Tones Trio scheduled to perform Sep 13

Join us for a FREE Community Concert @FranklinUMC featuring the Jazz Tones Trio on Saturday, September 13, at 7pm.

Jazz Tones Trio scheduled to perform Sep 13
Jazz Tones Trio scheduled to perform Sep 13
Frank Saccoccio began playing guitar at age 11 and has spent decades mastering classical, jazz, and rock styles. He’s performed across Rhode Island and Massachusetts in ensembles ranging from swing bands to solo sets, and also enjoys piano and ukulele. Based in Franklin, MA, Frank is the guitarist for The Jazz Tones Trio, bringing elegant, expressive sounds to intimate venues throughout southern New England.

Emily Gove has been performing for over 16 years on piano and 10 years on accordion, with a versatile background in jazz combos, choral groups, musical theatre, and classical solo work. Her musical journey has taken her across New England and abroad to Italy, England, and the Pacific Islands. Today, she plays with small jazz ensembles in Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts, adding rich texture to The Jazz Tones Trio with both keyboard and accordion.

After a 32-year hiatus, George Piggott returned to the bass at age 52, studying classical and jazz under Robert Petteruti—whose legacy includes performances with Duke Ellington and other jazz legends. Over the past 16 years, George has played with the Warwick Symphony, Ocean State Pops, RI Philharmonic Community Orchestra, and Great Woods Symphony. He now anchors The Jazz Tones Trio, blending bass with piano, guitar, and accordion to deliver soulful renditions from the American Songbook and light rock classics.

Author Lee Wilson Will Brings 19th Century, Women’s Ed Pioneer, Catharine Beecher to Life!

Sunday, September. 14 the Second Sunday Speaker Series continues.

Author Lee Wilson Will Brings 19th Century, Women’s Ed Pioneer, Catharine Beecher to Life!
R. Lee Wilson’s recent book,
Women’s Crusader
Billed as “The incredible untold story of how a lighthearted romantic became a pioneer advocate for women’s education,” R. Lee Wilson’s recent book, Women’s Crusader,  tells the story of Catharine Beecher and of her big impact on 19th century America.

Sister of Harriet Beecher Stowe, whose book, `Uncle Tom’s Cabin’ was a bestseller, blamed by some for sparking the Civil War, Catharine at first seemed more destined for a life of domesticity than of public leadership.

But a chance interaction led her into a romance with Franklin-born Alexander Metcalf Fisher, a brilliant Yale professor. However, after they became engaged, Fisher died in a tragic shipwreck that changed the focus of Catharine’s life. After living for a time in Franklin, with Fisher’s family, she emerged with a clear view of her life’s work, fighting misogyny and creating opportunities for women to get the education they needed and deserved.

The story even includes a role for Franklin famous education pioneer Horace Mann!

The program starts at 1:15.
The museum is open from 1-4 and admission is free. OPEN TO THE MEDIA

The Franklin Historical Museum is located at 80 West Central Street, Franklin. The museum is open Saturday mornings from 10AM-1PM (except as noted above) and Sunday afternoons from 1:00PM-4:00PM.

When visiting the museum, please consider donating a non-perishable item for the Franklin Food Pantry.    Questions? Contact Alan Earls at 508 560 3786.

"Today (9/9/25), Energy and Environmental Affairs (EEA) Secretary Rebecca Tepper declared that drought in the Western, Connecticut River Valley, Central, Northeast Regions and Nantucket County has worsened to a Level-2 Significant Drought. The Southeast Region has moved from normal conditions to a Level-1 Mild Drought, while the Cape Cod Region remains at a Level-2 Significant Drought, and Dukes County still in Normal Conditions.

Franklin (MA) "has moved from normal
conditions to a Level-1 Mild Drought"
Drought is a look back on conditions over a period of time. Although the spring and early summer months brought much-needed rainfall, which helped bring many regions out of drought, below normal rainfall over the last three months has quickly moved these regions back into a significant drought. August was notably dry in Massachusetts, with most areas observing 1 to 2 inches or more below normal rainfall. However, some areas of Central Massachusetts did experience near- to above-normal precipitation. Three-month precipitation deficits remain widespread, with much of the state seeing only 40-80% of normal rainfall. "

Per the map, Franklin is in the Southeast Region
