Boys Soccer = Franklin, 2 @ Mansfield, 1 – Final
– The Panthers potted the go-ahead goal with just under five minutes left to escape Mansfield with a hard-fought win over the Hornets. After a scoreless half, the game opened up a bit more in the second. A questionable call led to a throw-in in the attacking third for the Panthers and junior Josh Rappa didn’t hesitate to take the throw quickly. He launched a service into the area and senior Garrett Scagliarini went up and flicked it past the keeper in the 49th minute to present the Panthers with the first lead of the game. Mansfield’s direct approach in the second half opened the field a bit more, and head coach Steve Sheridan elected to move senior center back Cooper Austin into an attacking role. The switch paid off as Austin did well to hold up play before dishing it off to classmate Dylan Mullin, who was able to work his way between a pair of Panthers before connecting with Dom Nassif on a centering pass. Nassif’s one-timer snuck in at the near post as Mansfield pulled even in the 69th minute. Mansfield continued the pressure but Franklin’s back four was able to hold to quell the momentum. A free kick from Matt Honekamp was eventually played on by Scagliarini to the outside for a header from Rappa. Connor Mason was able to bring it down and dropped a ball in behind the defense and Wyatt Herndon was the first to it, getting a touch to beat the charging keeper.
Girls Soccer = Mansfield, 2 @ Franklin, 2 – Final
"It has been a tough week for Franklin. After dropping points to Bishop Feehan and Sharon within 24 hours of each other to start the week, the Panthers could have been forgiven for letting their heads drop when Aly Fernandes gave Mansfield a deserved two-goal cushion early in the second half of Friday afternoon’s game at Pisini Stadium.Rather than letting the Hornets run away with a big win, Franklin fought back. The Panthers scored twice in a 15-minute span, Morgan Lovell equalizing with just 11 minutes to play. Mansfield nearly came back and won the game a few minutes later, hitting the bar for the second time in the match, but it finished 2-2 and Franklin left the pitch as the happier of the two teams after grabbing a come-from-behind point."
