4th of July Fireworks 2019 (video)

In case you missed the fireworks on Saturday, or want to see it again, and maybe from a different point of view, here you go. This is from the hill between the Senior Center and the Horace Mann/Oak St Complex.

I took some photos of the first couple of minutes then decided to record so this is the last 15 minutes of the fireworks.

Thank you Franklin 4th of July Coalition for a great show!

In the News: vaping help for teens; kids day at the Franklin 4th

From the Milford Daily News, articles of interest for Franklin:

"Massachusetts is one of nine states participating in a program to help teenagers stop using electronic cigarettes. Some call vaping a health “epidemic” that must be stopped.

Statistics show the phenomenon known as “vaping” is a health problem for teenagers in MetroWest, and a new multi-state program hopes to give them the tools to quit.

Called “My Life, My Quit,” teenagers can text or call a toll-free number, 1-855-891-9989, to get connected with a coach for five sessions of personalized support. Those sessions can be done through live texting, phone or online chat. The goal is to build a plan to quit tobacco and vaping - the term used to describe puffing on electronic cigarettes."

"With her hair tucked into a white bonnet and gold sequins sparkling on her red, white and blue dress, Georgette Glavin, who turns 4 next week, surveyed the Franklin Town Common from her star-spangled stroller, outfitted with American flags and tinsel.

Minutes later, Georgette, embodying Betsy Ross, held a tiny gold trophy in her hands, as she and her 8-month-old cousin, Caroline Chagnon - tucked into a Statue of Liberty costume fashioned from a green bed sheet - had won first place in the July 4 Children’s Bike parade, sponsored by the Franklin Lions Club. Second place went to Aria Julian while third place was garnered by Amelia Collins.

“What better person to be than Betsy Ross?” asked Georgette’s grandmother, Kim Donahue, explaining the inspiration behind the costumes she helped design. “Now it’s time for Popsicles.”

Ellis Paul: “Five Alarm Fire on the 4th of July” (video)

Ellis Paul is scheduled to return to the Circle of Friends Coffeehouse this September. His new album features this song for the 4th of July.

"“Five Alarm Fire on the 4th of July” is the true story of Ellis Paul’s family reunion in Washburn, Maine back in 1979. The song appears on his album THE STORYTELLER'S SUITCASE on his own imprint, Rosella Records. Using archival family footage from that day and other family gatherings, Ellis has assembled a video that is both heart warming and humorous, reminding us all that every family mishap can be overcome by a circle of family support."

"Fireworks and PTSD: an emotional combination for some veterans"

From the Milford Daily News, articles of interest for Franklin:

"Fireworks on the Fourth of July are as common as parades down Main Street and cookouts in the back yard.

But for Bruce Walmsley, they can be a nightmare.

The 69-year-old Vietnam War veteran from Brockton doesn’t have a problem with organized fireworks shows. He can mentally prepare for them, and is happy to pull up a chair and watch.

When fireworks explode unexpectedly in neighborhoods in the days around July 4, however, that’s when things get rough."

"we have more food options for people this year"

From the Milford Daily News, articles of interest for Franklin:
"When you’re living in a town named after one of the Founding Fathers – in fact, the one among them who was something of a legend in his own time – it’s obligatory to do the Fourth of July in a big way.

And that’s exactly what the Franklin July 4th Coalition sets out to do each year. Its sole mission is to preserve the Independence Day tradition that Franklin has come to be known for regionally.

The Coalition members are in high gear with final preparations for this year’s patriotic celebration, which begins Wednesday and runs through Sunday on the Franklin Town Common.

“It’s really following the same blueprint as in the past,” said Joe Carmignani, who co-chairs the coalition with Paul Kortick."
